Sony pull Ben Folds Landed promo CDs off eBay!

Well that didn't last long!

According to a note sent out to those eBay users hoping to score one of the "Landed" promo CDs floating around, the auctions are being pulled off the site in accordance with eBay's compliance to the wishes of the copyright owners - in this case, Sony (or Ben Folds himself, but I doubt that).

Promotional CDs are sent out for review and, as the name states, promotional purposes, and although it is commonplace to see these CDs for sale online and in independent record shops, it is technically illegal. More often than not the CDs will state "PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY - NOT FOR RESALE", though this rarely affect their free trade.

This time, however, it seems that Sony has put their foot down, no doubt to reduce the risk of the track being leaked out via the internet before official release and harming sales (but don't even get me started on that!).

To anybody who has already secured one - first off, well done! Secondly, don't worry too much about the Sony crackdown. It's not illegal to buy these promos (that we can tell, anyway)... just don't try and sell them on eBay ;)
