Ben's All Star Album
« on: October 10, 2002, 10:50:34 AM »
I don't know if this is gonna be fun for anyone, but I will put it out there.

Ok, using Ben's 4 main albums(excluding FoP and the new Live one) you have to compile the best of them combined.

The catch is that for each track, you will have to chose between the 4 tracks of the same number from each of the CD's.(Except for track 12, which only has 3)

So,

Track/Songs to Chose From

1. Jackson Cannery / OAD / Narcolepsy / Annie Waits
2. Philosophy / Fair / Don't Change Your Plans / Zak And Sara
3. Juliane / Brick / Mess / Still Fighting It
4. Where's Summer B.? / SFTD / Magic / Gone
5. Alice Childress / Selfless / Hospital / Fred Jones Part 2
6. Underground / Kate / Army / Ascent Of Stan
7. Sports & Wine / Smoke / Your Redneck Past / Losing Lisa
8. Uncle Walter / Cigarette / Your Most Valuable Posession / CC
9. Video / SLNIT / Regrets / Not The Same
10. Best Immitation Of Myself / BOWCCL / Jane / RTS
11. The Last Polka / Missing The War / Lullabye / Fired
12. Boxing / Evaporated / The Luckiest
13. Bonus Track - Favorite Folds' Cover/ B-side/ Demo....whatever.

Ok, my list :)

1. OAD - The ultimate opening track...Annie is up there too though.
2. Philosophy - This is the hardest one for me. I love Fair. But I can't imagine Philosophy not making the list.
3. Mess - Still Fighting It was close, but I connect with Mess :)
4. SFTD
5. Fred Jones Part Two
6. Army - Another close one...Underground and AOS.....I like the crowd horn section though ;)
7. Smoke - One of ben's best songs from a lyrical standpoint.
8. Uncle Walter
9. SLNIT
10. Best Immitation of Myself
11. The Last Polka - Lullabye is soooo good too....another toughie.
12. Evaporated
13. Video Killed The Radio Star - Beating out Protection by a slight margin.

Well....in hindsight I am not sure if you guys are gonna want to do this.....It struck me as an interesting idea at 1:00 last night when I couldn't get to bed.

allright, here are my picks...

1. Narcolepsy
2. Philosophy (lots of good ones to chose from here)
3. Mess
4. Where's Summer B.?
5. Selfless (fred jones at a close second)
6. Ascent Of Stan
7. Sports & Wine
8. Your Most Valuable Posession
9. Video (this one was tough, regrets would be second)
10. Jane
11. The Last Polka
12. Evaporated
13. Bonus Track - Pyser

looks like self titled had the most for me(no big suprise). i am a little suprised that UBORM had so many, i forget how much i love that album.

That is a really good idea, thanks.  It was sooo hard though.  I would need ot make about three albums and vary about 5 of the tracks!

Oh my... tricky one!

Right, let's see if I can manage this... (it'd be better if I could include NBP so I could move tracks, but never mind :D)

1. One Angry Dwarf just edges out Annie Waits and Jackson Cannery, if only 'cos it was the first BFF song I ever heard.
2. Zak And Sara, remains one of my fave solo tracks.
3. Brick, 'cos it makes me wanna cry...
4. Song For The Dumped as it makes me laugh after Brick.
5. Fred Jones Part 2 - would've been Alice Childress 'til recently, but this just edges it out.
6. Army just beats Kate to this one as I sang the trumpet part live :).
7. Easy - Losing Lisa is the only one of these I like, although the French bit in Your Redneck Past amuses me.
8. Cigarette - short and sweet.
9. Not The Same - again, makes me wanna cry, but Last Night in Town is also very good...
10. Jane - I dunno why, I just really like this song.
11. Missing The War - love it!
12. Evaporated - is this the best end of album track ever? I think so...
13. Hiro's Song as it has me laughing.

This is awesome. Keep going guys. I'm finding it altogether too difficult, but I'll give it a go when I have an hour or so spare to feel heartless.

Wow...out of Ben's 47 songs on the 4 CD's, only 10 haven't been mentioned...and only 6 of us have gone!

Yeah, Evaporated is the "leader" right now with 5/6 votes.  ;D

But it does only have two "competetors" which gives it an advantage.

:'(  I just love Best Imitation, that's all.  Sure, I identified with Jane enough to make it my screen name so many years ago (all of the baggage that comes with "Yoko," my previous name was wearing on me)... but Best Imitation? I mean come on.  ;D

Hmmn, if you think about it, the songs really go together, don't they?  No wonder I would identify with both of them.
