La Zona Rosa, Austin, TX (3/10/2002)
« on: February 14, 2011, 12:36:44 PM »
Alright guys, here's a boot of Ben's show at La Zona Rosa back from 2002.  The quality is great and the setlist is far and away my favorite from his solo career.  There's a great mix of BFF, solo, and cover material.  Highlights are Eddie Walker, Morgan Davis, Girl, Golden Slumbers, Uncle Walter, Kate, Summer B, Missing the War, and SFTD Minor.  Anyway, these are the FLACs.  Hope you enjoy.

-In five *.7z archives for a quick download, instead of going through the 30 up there.

Thanks for the upload of this, as I only had it in mp3!

That was indeed a fantastic show.  My wife and I had seen him two nights earlier in Houston and thought the set list was less than stellar.  And we would have made the trek to Austin but this particular show was on a Sunday night and it would have been too hard to get to work the next morning.

You can see all the setlists from the 2002 solo tour here:

How rare some of what he played that night in Austin here:

And a discussion about the 3/8/02 Houston show:

From what I can tell, the reason that this show wasn't in wide trade/availability is because the original taper requested that it not be uploaded online (so that it wasn't degraded to MP3), and not many members of The 'Burbs had a copy to give to WUWTL.  With torrenting and the wide acceptance of lossless, I'm sure that the original taper would approve of his show being available to the masses now.

Vosnos: thanks for liberating this from obscurity.  I'll try to repay you by finding the FLACs of my BF5 show when I get a chance.

No problem.  Any chance this will get uploaded to WUWTL?  And what exactly is the problem with that BFF show you have?  When you say it plays too fast you mean the tracks are actually sped up?

Yes: the tracks run about a half-step sharp.  I messed around with it and posted the test results here a long while ago.  My ear said that a 3.5% speed reduction sounded like it was the right speed based on the key of the songs and Ben's voice not sounding artificially fast or slow.  Someone else used a piano passage to tune the recording to A=440.  I haven't tried that yet, although I have software to do it.  The one fun part is that they sound like they're on speed because all of the tempos are jacked up accordingly.
