he mentioned that thing about listening to it in the car stereo, and that's where i've been listening to the album mostly, i guess that's part of why i didn't really notice anything jarring about it
That would be it, but I never really listened to it in my car so much, the speakers are blown on it. I just happen to be one of the few who like the album as it is.

dont overplay, keep it simple and in the pocket, support the song, and you will be asked to play more than you have time to. - Chuck Folds

Imagine what we can do to 'Free Coffee' now! :D :D :D
I'm thinking that we couldn't do a damn thing with it. To me it sounds like it's one of the least compressed songs on the album because every time I come off my errant dog high and go into this it's like a drop on the decible meter. We could boost the signals on it yes, but other than that ben has said that this record was recorded very differently and funky than the others so it's extremely likely that the compression is built into the songs like he said that it was.

Though I now need a mac book and a fan club membership :(

I guess the release was tuned toward someone with my listening habits cause I typically use an iPod and/or other mp3 players. As far as what Zach hinted at as far as limited options with 'Free Coffee' due to how the recording was made I remember reading the posts about it here months back...Regardless I'm willing to play around and break it and see what I can produce.

will people post what they "play around with" or is that still breaking the rules.

I'm pretty damn stoked about this. I figure I may as well join the fan club, since the CD set will probably sell for almost $20 in stores anyway (after taxes and such). But I gotta wait till after christmas before I join!

my thoughts exactly. but the remaster is up for debate on it's share-ability.

Heaps good! I really kinda just went along with the production but i'm loving the idea of being able to mess around and remix them. I wonder if it's going to happen for aus.

Also, has this kinda thing happened before with big artists? Surely releasing your album in mix-it-yourself form is a fairly new concept? Or have i just missed a trend? If not i think ben should be given an extra high 5 for being so transparent and open with his songs. fun times

This is really frickin' cool.

I wonder if Ben realizes that You Don't Know Me is getting heavy airplay in Kansas City now (at least on 96.5)?  I don't know why it's getting it after 3 months of being a single, but it is.  It's on a station that played zero of RTS and SFS, too.  I'm hoping to hear the next single popup on the radio soon.

he's an elitist.
My new philosophy is that a crappy tape deck somewhere plays a greatest hits collection of strange and tender moments, lost, stranded, and forgotten. I'll meet you there.

I'm looking forwards to mixing "You don't know me" with Shatner.
