10 minute interview with amanda.  she ends up talking about Ben all through out.
the link is at the bottom left hand corner.

she mentions that she'll be in australia in january/february, which is exactly when ben said he'd be there.  coincidence?

This weekend she was on a NY radio station for a full hour with interview/live performances including her/Neil Gaiman's I Google You.  Whole thing's online here: http://www.wnyc.org/shows/spinning/episodes/2008/09/14

She was also on a Boston show too recently, playing a ukulele version of Radiohead's Fake Plastic Trees, which somebody already uploaded here:

Very hectic and wallet-draining month for Ben and Amanda fans! :)

AMANDA PALMER: New York Doll: Dresden Dolls' Amanda Palmer Goes Solo
Sep 2, 2008
By Lisa Hresko

Although Who Killed... was supposed to be recorded in a fortnight in Amanda's Massachusetts home, virtual fate intervened. "Ben [Folds] randomly emailed the Dresden Dolls website, that's how we met," Palmer says. That standard 21st century connection led to a beautiful Folds-produced record. "Well we can certainly speak a common language [as pianists]," she says, "and Ben definitely gave me some pointers about playing. He's a much more accomplished piano player than I am, he's being touring solo for years and playing with a band for years, so he had a whole set of tools that he could offer me." In addition to his advice on the ivories, Folds took hold of the album's production and editing. "As a producer, he actually stepped in and starting hacking away at the songs which is always my least favorite part," says Palmer. "But I really trusted him to do it because I could tell he really had the ear for it. In working with Ben it was really ironic, because I was leaving the Dresden Dolls to do this project saying 'Ha ha, alright, I'm just going to have control over my record.'" But what can be a leap of faith for controlling artists was the perfect route, not to mention a relief, for Palmer. "One of the most wonderful things about having control is that I can also give up total control. Ben was like 'Okay well I'm gonna work on this song in Nashville for three days while you're up in Boston, and when you come back it's gonna be done, I hope you like it.' I was f*cking petrified because I had no idea what was going to come out the other end. But I also knew that he was going to come up with something artistically that he just couldn't do if I was standing there with my hands on my hips looking over his shoulder. And then I always had the choice to say 'I hate what you've done, scrap it all.' But that never happened. Everything he touched was gold."

If anyone's interested, there's a site up for this album with lots of Ben-related stuff on there, including a ton of photos from the making of the album and Ben's original email to the Dolls' website:

dear amanda and brian,

you've now made two of my favorite records ever.  thank you thank you.  both of you.
i'm in tokyo right now, so i'm bowing to you a hundred times like the housekeeping lady just did.

there's a lot of great music out there, of course, but not much of it all that valid in my humble opinion.  if that makes any sense.  there's plenty of valid music that is not very good and i'm happy to listen to it because it at least it means something, although you have to overlook or embrace people who can't play or sing very well.  but then there's plenty of really good music that's totally invalid and it always makes me feel like not listening to music at all.  so we all try really hard to have music we're excited about but it always has seemed like effort, (at least when we're talking about the mainstream and not what i heard the housekeeping lady singing in arkansas because SHE was really good).  what you do defies all of that because it's just true and exctards, ellent and it keeps me company like a small handful of records have over the years.  (i used to categorize music as 'hairy' and 'hairless' but that didn't make sense to people who would point out that for instance kenny loggins has a beard although i thought i was obvious that his music was hairless.  i've moved on since 7th grade to the valid/good theory.)

anyway, your music is inspiring and i could pontificate (like i did in the letter i just wrote and didn't send) for three pages about why it moves me, but you can just take my word for it.   this is my first fan letter ever and i think i might send another to an english guy named mike skinner now since i'm on a roll.

good luck out there.  i think as long as you're doing exactly what the f*ck you want to be doing and not a note or word differently, life will be good.

i just hit my forehead on the desk bowing.

sincerely,
b folds

Picked up the album there the other day, really like it. The production is indeed very epic, Oasis is absolutely hilarious (for a song about such controversial material) and the likes of Run in the Family are just fantastic. Seeing her live next Saturday in Dublin and cannot wait as I missed the Dolls last time they were over.
Back and forth... forever ))<>((

Just got my copy and it's great... not QUITE as good as Yes, Virginia simply because of how fantastic that record is.  A bit like saying I prefer "Whatever" to "Reinhold" if that helps.

Reinhold for me just because it sounds so different from anything that I'd heard up to that time. And I have a sweet spot in my heart for concept albums.
dont overplay, keep it simple and in the pocket, support the song, and you will be asked to play more than you have time to. - Chuck Folds

Hahahaha. I love how he's off to email Skinner. Ha.

And I think I like the solo better than the band albums.... but just slightly. And it's the orchestration, that just, well, pushes it over the edge. The two Dolls albums are amazingly well done (I don't count much of No, Virginia... it's like SSSG)

edit.

i feel bad talking about amanda vs amandabrian on the day they officially called it off as a band. :(
