Here's my gig summary for the year so far (including ones I've already seen since the New Year arrived). Headliners are in bold, supports (where applicable) aren't. Some upcoming gigs don't have confirmed supports...:
January:
19th - Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Walter Schreifels, Jeremy Warmsley @ Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall
23rd - Larrikin Love @ HMV Birmingham (in-store event)
28th - Ben Folds, Eef Barzelay @ Wolverhampton Civic Hall
February:
12th - The Reflections, Fell City Girl, Roman Candle @ Hoxton Bar and Kitchen, London (this was a weird one, in that three bands played, but the first two weren't supporting the last... I went to see Roman Candle, who were first on, but stayed for the others. Roman Candle were undoubtably best)
13th - Duke Special, Stephanie Dosen @ Birmingham Glee Club
14th - Guillemots, Richard Burke @ Birmingham Carling Academy
March:
6th - Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals' frontman), Voice of the seven woods, 9 Bach @ Birmingham Glee Club
15th - Ricky Gervais, Robin Ince @ Birmingham NIA
26th - The Shins, Viva Voce, Jeremy Warmsley @ Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall
April:
8th - Aqualung @ Birmingham Carling Academy 2
22nd - Fields, Hush the many (heed the few), Alberta Cross @ Birmingham Glee Club
May:
16th - Duke Special @ Birmingham Carling Academy 2
23rd - Built to Spill @ Nottingham Rescue Rooms
Me and a friend are also talking about going to see The Young Knives at the end of May... I'm hopeful that more gig opportunities will arise over the next few months... Last year, I went to something like a gig a month; this year, I'm aiming for 2 or 3, or more. Preferably more, actually. Nobody I wanted to see played here last summer (I had almost 6 months between two gigs... May to October), so somebody better sought that out...
In all, the gig I'm most looking forwards to is Built to Spill. Then The Shins.
