Melbourne - Sunday 24th September with the MSO
« on: September 24, 2006, 05:07:52 AM »
I can't remember the setlist in order, so here it is in alphabetical order:

All You Can Eat
Army (solo)
Brick
Eddie Walker
Evaporated
Fred Jones pt. 2
Gracie
Jesusland
Landed
Lullabye
Man Obsessed (solo)
Mess
Narcolepsy
Not the Same
One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces
Philosophy
Smoke
Steven's Last Night in Town
The Luckiest
Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down (solo)
Zak and Sara

He also did a song I've never heard him play. I'm not sure of the title, but it was a country-ish song.

A Daniel Johnston song that he's covered a while ago.

wow, what a set!
My new philosophy is that a crappy tape deck somewhere plays a greatest hits collection of strange and tender moments, lost, stranded, and forgotten. I'll meet you there.

The country-ish song was Your Cheating Heart, which is a Hank Williams cover.

Man Obsessed? Ben's done that? The only copy I've heard is on Snuzz's CD. And Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down?

No way. That's ridiculous.

I'm a post-rarehouse kinda fan.
I've got Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down. I just can't believe that Ben did it.

Cuz it is a Ben Folds Five B-Side track that hasn't proably been done since like 1997/1998. That's more random than Mess, tho that is with the Orchestra.

And Man Obsessed, I've never seen that on a list, ever. It just seems a little weird. It's like the person who posted on the lj com that Ben'd done Your Most Valuable Possession, and people were like, REALLY? And I thought it was a load of crap, once I thought of it... so now I'm kinda taking this with a grain of salt.

Man Obsessed was definitely played. Ben said he wanted to have a theme for the two solo pieces he played in the middle, which were Man Obsessed and Eddie Walker. The theme was people in halfway homes. Then he started talking a little about the kind of person Daniel Johnston was, and why Man Obsessed fits his halfway homes theme.
