The color of this forum
« on: July 07, 2006, 12:30:10 PM »
Andy,

Is there anyway to change the background color of this forum? Although it's memorable, the red and the general contrast really hurts my eyes after a while.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Thanks for all you do.

I don't mind either way.

The colours right now are nice. And doesn't everyone immediately think of the Suburbs boards when they see red and maroon? ... *crickets chirp* Or maybe it's just me...

But if people want a change, I'm all for it.

I'd suggest making a few skins for the board, so people who like the red don't have to change, and the people who don't like it (the fiends) can opt to change.

I think that with the message board maker thingee that Andy's used, you can't make skins like that; it has to be the same for everyone. I have a message board made with a similar site and you can only have the preset colours. That said, it's hard to find colours that complement one another and I think Andy's done a smashing job with the red... Reminds me of one of the RTS EPs...

the Burgundy I like, the bright red is sort of annoying and I can see how it would be painful...do not know what other color would be better and go with the burgandy...maybe the color of the "topic summary" bar would be better all around...

I can indeed skin this mutha, so keep the suggestions coming. I like the idea of being able to change it if the reds are a bit much, if people have certain types of colourblindness or just fancy a change. Fans of the red (myself included) need not panic though - this current scheme (maybe plus a few tweaks) will be the default option.

While we're on the topic, have you any idea how hard it is to design something red without it going a bit pink? ;-P

If you were given absolute power over the colourscheme, what would you do with it?

darks and light blues sooth my eyes.with orange or white writing.  then again that's probably the stupidest idea ever if you picture it...

I do agree that when I think this forum sort of has a brand with the red look, but I (and it sounds like a few others) think the red also is a bit contrasted...

Maybe a darker red, so that it keeps the same brand-look?

If it were up to me, I would have it be light blue, with a dark blue complimenting it. Kinda like this: http://s10.invisionfree.com/The_New_Coffee_Room/index.php?act=idx

Thanks for the open mind and possible color-tweaking abilities. And thanks again for all you do...this is a great site!

PS. I'm not colorblind, and I don't wear glasses - it's just I get a light headache after reading black or white text on this red background after a while. Me in a few years --> 8) Ray Charles style! :-X
