That's not SAFE!!!

« on: August 26, 2005, 09:15:28 AM »

My parents are buying me an electric piano for my exam results. We are working with a price range of about £200. I want a weighted keys, pedal, etc. model that has enough keys for me to play "Philosophy" (the highest note on my keyboard is the C from the first chord. Anybody who knows the song knows that you then have to move on up to a D, which doesn't exist on my 48 key keyboard). Any suggestions?

Yes. Unless the keyboard has weighted keys and pedals (which some do).

about 500 australian dollar i think

i'd get a stage piano, but these are all in the range from about 1000 dollars, but they're great, most of them have weighted keys, 88 of them so no problem playing all of ben's songs.
I love my casio!
It's a lot of money, but you'll be happy with what you get, otherwise you buy a lower priced one, but will move on to another one after some time as it cannot satisfy your ben needs...

Let's make note, an ELECTRIC PIANO does not sound like a piano, it sounds like something fake.  It's similar to electric and acoustic guitars.  You probably want a keyboard, which does sound like a piano, even though it's not real.  You have to understand, an electric piano sounds like a rhodes, not an actual piano.  Keyboards sound like actual pianos.

I think you're getting a bit specific, he probably called it an electric piano to disnguish it from a piano that wasn't electric.

I have an electric piano (digital piano, SORRY).  It sounds amazing, especially in the high registers...  When I play Brick it sounds like a full grand.  Chloe can confirm this?  I have a few recordings of me playing it, so ask.  it's a good sound!

EDIT: I paid $700 for it, it's a Yamaha P60,  just putting in my thoughts on digital pianos.

It may be a little out of your price range, but you could check out the M-Audio ProKeys 88. I have the controller version, and the hammer action keys feel great to me. I don't know how good the piano sounds are on it, but I don't know how picky you are about that if you just want to play in house.

Or, you could just splurge and get this

No, I think that prize would go to a coffee mug with a lid that you can't open.

It IS pointless.  Why waste like 9,000 bucks when you can get a real piano?
