How much $ to book Ben?
« on: November 25, 2001, 06:00:01 AM »
I came across some booking info for Ben, advertising to book Ben Folds "at your school"...

Anyone care to guess how much it costs to book ben for a show?

NOTES:
There is no venue size given along with the price.
It's in US dollars, so you Brits will have to do your own conversion.

hmmmm. if you're making us guess, then I reckon it's a fairly surprising figure.

$100???

(ok, maybe that's a little optimistic...:-))

I wonder if he'd come to Bradford University...

I'll weigh in on the higher end of the scale and say $5,000.

Hmmm....I'd have to go on the 18,000-25,000 range :)   I'd say closer to 25,000.
Had to modify this cause I forgot my closing!!!

I could just ask my brother, b/c he suggested to the people who booked him at U. of Illinois that they book him, but, hmmm.  It's expensive to tour as it is, and they want to turn a profit.  If it's in that $25,000 range, that's quite a lot, especially considering that he's charging around $20 a ticket still.  I'll go with $25,000 also.
it'll put your mind more at ease if you say the words of release...

I could let the guesses continue, but Squeaky and Kenny are right. The range listed is $20 - $25K.  I thought it was high too, but they may be targeting larger venues with this particular listing - college arenas perhaps?

Anyway, here's the link:

In all fairness, I think the figure in the ad is for touring dates. Don't know whether Ben does private shows or not, but if so, I reckon it would be lower. Maybe not at my 5K figure lower, but lower nevertheless.

And for what it's worth, I'll throw in 20 as well.

Yes.  I never meant to imply that it was for a private show. Did I?

Like I said, it says "for your school," possibly implying an outdoor show or basketball arena type venue.  Obviously the ad is for touring dates in Feb or March.

Out of curiousity (and general ignorance), who would make the money off of ticket sales... assuming "my school" booked Ben to the tune of $20K, does the school (i.e., venue) then profit from ticket sales... or is it split into some %age... or what?  Guess I never thought about it before; I have no idea how it works.  If the venue makes all the money off of ticket sales (or do they just make money off of alcohol and #$%@ bottled water??), then it would kind of make sense to me that a private show would be cheaper.  Otherwise, it would seem to me that a private show would be even more expensive since the label... or Ben... or whoever is getting rich here... would not be profiting beyond the booking fee. Did ANYBODY follow me?
