"Hiro's Song" - Studio Version
« on: September 09, 2001, 04:58:14 PM »
What do you all think?

I REALLY like it.  It sounds to me like it could've been a single here in the states, but, of course, it's not available on the album, so that will never happen.  Something would have to be done about the ending, though, even though it is really funny.  "More s*&#!  Come on, bring in some more s*&#!"  hahaha
it'll put your mind more at ease if you say the words of release...

That ending is a little bit of a shame.

Actually, first time I heard it I didn't like the screaming, but I guess it's kinda funny. It's not so bad now I expect it.

I wouldn't have minded Snuzz's (chorus) guitar part on the studio version though... that's ace.

Favourite aspect of the studio version has got to be the vocoderised "yah-uh-yah-uh-yah" as ben sings the "And now she's gone" verse. Have a listen!

Can someone put this on Kazaa or Aimster or Winmx?
And everyone knows now that every night now will be Steven's last night in town.

I was a little concerned when I read your posts about the screaming at the end, but now that I've finally heard the studio version I have to say I think it's hilarious!

"It's all, it's all, it's all ME!"  HAHAHAHA!

Though this is slower than it is live, I think that the shouting and "ooh" during "in a Karaoke Supernova..." are great, as well as is the electric piano.

The guitar part when they play Hiro's Song live - yeah.  It's so awesome.

At the Roxy show in Atlanta ben i yelled out why wasn't on the album and ben said that he had jsut f*cked around with it so much that he didn't think it was good. this was before i heard the full studio version. after listening to it you can tell he meant the end part were he just added as much stuff as possible.

I think what might have been cool is a bonus live version of that song.  Then again, maybe he hadn't done live shows by the time it was pressed.  And then I suppose the live sound doesn't really go with his intent of studio sound on RTS.  Hmm...

Ok, so just forget what I just said <g>

Well, yeah, even though Ben Folds Five's debut album had a bit of a live feel to it, it's still a standard studio album.  I guess the difference with RtS is that he really wanted (excuse the silly Kenny term ahead) the Big Pop Treatment.

Oh, sure :)  I was just thinking like how they'll do that sometimes--not on a BF/BFF album, but just anything.

LOL, I like that.  "Big Pop Treatment."

Yeah.  Come to think of it, I'd actually like to get a whole live ALBUM out of Ben and his new band.

*Suddenly remembers to put precious zip disk with parts 3 and 4 into her purse.*

Thanks! I've been forgetting it every day - I can't listen at work, can't download at home - and remembering when I am halfway home.  Talk about frustrating!
