Anyway, here's what Ben says in the intro of the video of his live performance of 'Hiro's Song' at V2001:

"This next song is about a Japanese business man, about 55 years old, who leaves his wife, his family, for his daughter's best friend.  Her name is Yuko, his name is Hiro.  This is called Karaoke Supernova [what he sometimes called it]."
[/qoute]
Ah, ok. I had heard that, but just assumed that was obvious merely from the song. I have no idea why the song works so well, it just does.

I remember reading that Morgan Davis was a college friend? drummer for something along the way? and it sounded like one of those things where Ben just used his name (like Eddie Walker, etc.). (I think he did an earlier version of the song with Five, too.)

Right, right. That's what I've heard as well, (not sure about the drummer bit, though), except that it came from someone off the (apparently dearly-departed??) Magical Armchair list, or something, from a person who claimed he hung out with Morgan and Ben in college, and that knowing Morgan just made the song all that much funnier. He did not elaborate, out of respect for Morgan. I'm not sure how to take that: Is the song making fun of Morgan, or referencing jokes between Ben's group of friends during college? And furthermore, was this guy telling the truth, or just making it up?

First of all, I had never heard of that Blur song; I just looked up the lyrics.  Interesting! hmm...did anybody else know about it?

Yep, I found it a while back when a friend asked if my folks had any Blur CDs. Turned out they did...

Ben made a quote at some point in time that I recall, but I'm not sure where from, that "Hiro's song" was NOT about him or anything that really happened to him...

One Down has been said to be about the fact that Ben's contract said he had to write 4.6 songs, and One Down was one of those 4.6. I dunno about that though. (I'm not quite sure if someone's already said that, but I figured I'd chime in)

Yeah, Ben definitely explained it, but it does need explaining to make sense. It's a beautiful song though.

"Morgan Davis" is an INCREDIBLE peice of music
I can't believe thats a f*cking B-side!

Actually, given its eccentricity, I can believe it...

What I STILL can't believe is how Hiro's Song not only didn't make the album, but that it also wasn't a single!

Maybe it's just me, but I love live versions of Hiro's Song... since I heard them first, it kind of makes the studio version a bit disappointing.

Anyone else feel that way?

I don't really like the studio version because it's done the same way as the other rts songs (obviously) and i didn't like the way of the recording, with using computers, on this album

I think the studio version kicks the ass of the live versions. The studio just has so much more... umph to it. That said, the RTS live band doing Hiro's Song kicks the ass of Lindsay and Jared doing it. The umph is just gone now.

I like all of the versions, but I like the studio version the best.  It's such a masterful song as well as a masterful production and mix by Ben Grosse.

Does anybody have a good live version with the RtS touring band that they'd like to share?
it'll put your mind more at ease if you say the words of release...

Er... Sorry about this, but I can't find the disc it was on ANYWHERE right now... I uploaded the whole thing (it was 5 tracks long) a couple of months back - if anybody downloaded it and would be so kind to upload it, t'would be appreciated...

The disc also had two version of "Rockin' the Suburbs", a version of "Make me mommy" and another song...
