9/27 - Council Bluffs, IA?
« on: September 28, 2012, 06:38:20 AM »
Any show reports from last night?  I saw a FB post that said BF5 may have played Bitches Ain't Shit?!  Can't wait for the KC show tonight!

Also dying to know the setlist from last night. And, please do post setlist from KC tonight.

I'm very curious if they played "Hold That Thought" again, for instance.

Robert's probably never going to be allowed to go to the bathroom again after it led to a crazy improv'd version of Bitches Ain't Shit with Darren catching up pretty quickly... even if he looked bored as f*ck. ;) Folds had the crowd sing the second verse.

Overall, this was an excellent show. If the quick summer tour was a test ride, the guys are pretty much firing on all cylinders now. A personal highlight for me was "Emaline," which I have been trying to get Folds to play with a band again for over a decade now. The harmonies were so beautiful, and hearing the rhythm section on that track again brought a smile to my face that probably left very little doubt as to which cloud I was on (hint: it was one above 8).

Then there was the whole "getting invited backstage after the show" thing. That was cool, too.

Do tell.  Did you tell them you were gonna be there before the show?

After 60+ shows, you're almost part of the band. :)  Shouldn't you just always be backstage?

Right? When am I gonna get my official invite to just be the merch guy or run the fan club. ImadamnVP, indeed. ;) But really, I have zero expectations for any sort of special treatment or acknowledgment. I go for the music and everything else is just really nice icing on the cake.

To answer vosnos, I Tweeted a request about an hour before the show and Folds replied saying they didn't have time to learn the tune. Then before they closed the show with "Underground" he pointed me out to everyone and said something like "‎"My friend Justin is 70 shows old tonight. Maybe he and his friends should come backstage and hang out after the show?" Then he sent one of his crew 'round front to make sure he could recognize me, and I then got Brooke, Steph, David, and er, one other dude I just met last night who was nice but I've forgotten his name already backstage and we had a very lovely time chatting with the guys after the show.

70 shows is freakin' amazing. I'm at 22 (I think) now and feel like I've seen Ben a ton.  I can't imagine 70.  At my current rate, I'd hit show number 70 at the young age of 80.  Although, I think last year's KC show may have been my favorite Ben show ever.  I don't know if he could ever top it.  That show where we drove over to Columbia back in '99 is up there, too.  As is my first back at the Grenada in Lawrence back in '97.

Cool pic and story.

Any chance of a set list?

Set list would be awesome- or at least, any new songs they played? The burning questions for me are, did they keep Magic and Missing the War? Did they keep playing "Hold That Thought"? Did they add anything else, drop anything else?

I don't write down set lists, sorry. :/

Magic and MtW were both played, as was "Hold That Thought."

That KC show was mind blowing. You could tell it was the end of the tour because there was NOTHING left by the time they were done playing. And getting them to do Uncle Walter was just so. friggin. cool.

Justin,

I just want to say thanks again for your generosity last night. I always meet the greatest people at Ben's shows. Although I have only been to 3 thus far, I have friends still from each show I have been to. Brooke and Stef I met last year and they've become some of my best friends and I met David when they brought him yesterday. It was great meeting you as well, and I am hoping to see you at many more shows in the future, sir! I'm not sure if any future shows will hold the spectacle of what we experienced last night or not, but I'll just have to find out!

- Derek

(And yes, this is my first post on the Suburbs, even though I have regularly sifted through here since about 2005. I don't know why I have avoided joining for so long, haha.)

I know brooke and or stef did. They must. It's part of the job of going to a show without me. HA.

70. Oi. You'll probably hit 80 before I hit 70. I'm willing to say for certain. Actually. Sunday's 54, Tuesday 55 and Wednesday (which was a last, LAST minute booking - as Tuesday was last minute too) is 56. I keep thinking I'm ending the year on 55, but it's 56. So many shows...... at one point I was averaging about 9.5 shows a year. It's dropped to 7.4. And Provided I see Ben/the Five before the Fourth of July again I'll keep above 7. Not bad for only 3 in 2011.

ALSO. DEREK. ABOUT f*ckIN TIME.

Haha, Allison. I know right? Now that I've registered, I'll probably be on here more. It was inevitable.
