here's one definition for paradigm: A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline.

Putting it in the context of the song, I'd say that perhaps the bastard discovered something that challenged his set way of thinking and it was such a shock to his system that it felt like a heart attack.

Thank you!

no prob.  looking that up got me thinking - Ben's vocabulary made leaps with this album.  I mean, I'm not saying he was a cretin before, but I actually had to break out the dictionary once or twice.  Jeez!  you'd think I was listening to Bad Religion or something   ;D

My favorite line is, "down comes the reign of the telephone czar."

Maybe I just felt good about understanding it :p
Alice, the world is full
Of ugly things that you can't change
Pretend it's not that way
It's my idea of faith.

My favorite line is, "down comes the reign of the telephone czar."

I think it has to with what Ben says on the SFS DVD. He talks about how the woman in this relationship is a complete bitch. In the song he sings 'she never told me that you called.' Ben commented on how the guy in the relationship had to change completely in order to cope with the relationship, and also 'moved to the west coast.' So, the guy left and someone tried to contact him, but the woman never told him. By saying 'come pick me up, i've landed', he's stating that the guy finally got out of the relationship, signaling the 'end of the reign of the telephone czar.', who was the woman being the bitch in the relationship. Hope this helps.
Come pick me up, I've landed.

I just really like the comparison of anything to a czar.

back to the hypocrite thing, i dont think ben saying he would write one political song and then writing two makes him a hypocrite. if ben said he was against political songs and then wrote one he would be. the definition of a hypocrite is more than saying youll do something than doing something else

That's what bastard is about, and that's why everyone on the board hates me.  I said ben was a bit of a hypocrit, simply because he said all u can eat was his most political song as his music was going to be... excuse that grammer.  but then he wrote bastard, so... hypocrit.

Oh everyone hates me...step into my world.

So dramatic, eh?

Ben himself said it's about older people who think they know better. That'll do for me...
