Album Board / Album Cover Artwork
« on: September 12, 2006, 06:58:54 PM »
Hi everyone,

The recent release of iTunes 7 has finally encouraged me to compile my music collection along with the album art (I love being able to browse through my collection with "Cover Flow"!)

So for those who would like to participate, I was thinking we could provide each other the album covers for any of the the BF/BFF albums - even the unreleased ones that iTunes would never find automatically - I'm talking about the bootlegs, etc.  If you have a itch to express yourself artistically, why not create an album cover for one of the bootlegged shows, comprised of an image from the show, or something fitting.

I'm a bit busy with school right now, but I'm hoping that I'll get a chance to make a couple on the weekend.  Then I'll post them here.  Please provide a decent sized file, so image compression is minimal.

Also, just a note - I'm so glad that iTunes finally incorporated seamless play for those albums which are mixed together with each track!  \m/  nice work!

Reply with thoughts, comments, and artwork  ;)

Hey pano, thanks for sharing the news.  I agree with you the tracklist does seem a bit strange...

I guess that clears things up.  It's the same track which has been under discussion.  Ads, I share your thoughts on less meaning in this version.  In most cases, the original can't be beat, and hey, we're dealing with Folds & Shatner here, that's talent in a class of its own.

Thanks Adam & Alex.  Rock on.

I was searching on Amazon for Thievery Corporation as they collaberated on a track with my favourite band, The Flaming Lips, when I stumbled upon this:

Check out track 9.

Hi everyone, I going to try and provide some (accurate?) insight into this "finding"...

First of all, I'm also a huge fan of Thievery Corporation, so Officer Alex, that track you're looking for is "Marching The Hate Machines Into The Sun" from the album The Cosmic Game.  First track on the album, and fantastic.  I love it!

I'm over in Europe right now, so decided to wait to order the new TC album Versions when I get back to Canada in about a month.  So I hadn't really paid much attention to the track listing since the album isn't really a priority for me right now.  I was quite surprised to see "In Love - Fear of Pop" as track 9.

Two years ago, after looking hard, I found some rare vinyl on eBay.  When Ben released Fear Of Pop, he commissioned a few remixes.  Thievery Corporation was one of the bands.  It was released as a single on vinyl.  So here's my guess - track nine on Versions is the same track I have on vinyl.  Presumably, when they wrote the credits for the CD, they are calling Ben & William "Fear of Pop"...  I don't have time to check right now, but are they not credited as that on the Conan performance as well?

In Love has been remixed by Thievery Corporation, Chukwa, and Charlie Dark.  These (also instrumentals) are the tracks I have collected on vinyl.  I am not certain, but believe they were once available on Kyle's BFF Clubhouse (for those of you have been following BF/BFF closely, long enough to remember it when it existed...) I just never got around to downloading it.

I'm not too keen on the Chukwa and Charlie Dark mixes, but the TC track is cool.

Thanks for posting the clips general_apathy.  Sounds good to me.  Umm, can you guys explain the term "overproduced"?  I realise it's a mainstream movie, but I'm just interested to read your descriptions...

I think it has been mentioned by Ben before, but I don't remember for certain, that he did say he doesn't have perfect pitch.  Dranscht is correct on how perfect pitch doesn't have anything to do with being able to pick up so multiple instruments; musicality is.  I can back that up from personal experience.  I don't have perfect pitch.

Oh, and if you listen to the Ben Folds Live recording of Best Imitation, before he starts to play he hits a G octave with the left hand to get the first tone for the voice, before the piano starts in with C.

I just finished listening to all his songs.  I can't say his lyrics are anything special.  I agree with general apathy that he's not that original.  Just a question though, Gordon... Why are you looking for new talent?  Giving up on Ben?  He's not retired yet.

Ben's Old Five / Re: BF5 'Freaking Out' DVD!?

Believe me, they're not tired of the songs.  The concert is incredibly energetic.  Keep in mind the show is from 1999 - how the hell could they be bored of the songs already??

So I bought the DVD off ebay... it's absolutely incredible!  Excellent show, the energy on stage is great.  Ben working the two pianos had me laughing with satisfaction!  Do yourself a favour and get your hands on it.  Thanks to those who notified us about it here on the forums.

What I was most impressed with is Still Fighting It... every time I've heard him do it recently he really could barely squeak it out... but this time, it was wonderful. He had to go into falsetto a few times, but it really worked.

Still Fighting It sounded good, but what is the reason for Ben struggling with it lately?  Has he had a cold?

This was also the first time I heard Don't Change Your Plans solo.  It was fantastic.  The part where he goes into the bridge where the horns usually are was really cool.

It was also my first time to hear Lullabye solo.  Damn cool!  Does anyone know what he did to make the percussive sound?  It doesn't exactly sound like a foot on the floor... unless it was a special type of flooring.  Does he put a mic there?

Thanks to those who made this recording available.  \m/

-Dale         ... Wow, my first post since May! ...

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that it would be the old upright he recorded Brick with.  I'm pretty sure he's had that one a long time.  He used it on the SNL performance too.

I just wanted to say Happy Birthday to this great website here!  Andy, I think the new layout is great.  Way to go on keeping up the site.  I didn't join the site until June of 2001, but I have enjoyed visiting ever since, and all of the content that all of us fans can provide for each other.  Thanks Andy!

Cheers, Everyone!

News / songs for silverman - question
« on: March 21, 2005, 04:29:32 PM »
If someone could clear this up for me, that would be great.  Currently, my understanding is that a person has to choose between a 40-page booklet and a strings version of Landed when purchasing Songs For Silverman.  Why the hell would they not also include the strings version of Landed with the deluxe edition of SFS?  That's like something my cable company would do with channel packages.  ::)
