Title: YOUR Folds Vault
Post by: Allison on October 06, 2011, 03:36:11 PM
So, just thinking. If you were the person putting together a "die-hard"s bonus track album, what would you have included.
There are not really rules with this. If there was a fantastic performance you saw somewhere that there is no known live recording of... go ahead, include it. This is the what-if world..... but don't create things that never happened. I'm going to ponder mine for a bit.... I already know of a few choice inclusions.

First, let me say I in no way want this to be construed as complaining; I'm overall very happy with all of these archive releases.  That being said, here's what I would have like to have seen:

I was REALLY hoping the Chicago song (aka Cybernet) would be included in some form, especially the version from 3/2/02. He opened with it and had a nice instrumental passage at the beginning.  He's said before that he tried writing more verses for it and finishing it off, but I guess that never happened.  When he played it on 8/10/03 he joked that he'd put it on the next EP for us.

Also very surprised and disappointed that there's nothing from the first RtS tour with the full band.

There's also some highlights from the solo tour of spring 04 that I would have liked to hear, like the solo electric bass versions of Rent a Cop, SFTD, and Brick.

I'd also like a higher quality version of his cover of The Flaming Lips' Race for the Prize with Neil Hannon.

Finally, a good live version of Fair.

1. Studio B-Sides That are not already present on WEAEA special edition, Supersunnyspeedgraphic, or Stems & Seeds
2. Unreleased Studio Sessions
3. Unreleased Studio Alternative takes of songs
3. Live B-sides/singles tracks
4. Best of unreleased Live tracks

All clumps of songs will be in either chronological order of original recording or recording era if studio sessions (rts b-sides tracks could be in an order that makes sense with flow, but don't have to be in order of how they were recorded released)

Does that make sense?

I wish Ben Folds, Sony, & whomever else involved in these releases would take a cue from Valve Software. Valve makes games like Half-Life & Portal & have a digital distribution engine called steam...ANYWHO, one thing that Valve does which is awesome, is every game they have made in house they sell online individually OR you can buy ALL of their games in one giant super awesome package for $99 and it saves you like $300+ if you were going to buy all the stuff together in their uber bundle. I wish the Ben Folds entire discography would be released like that (and IN LOSSLESS). I'm talking ALL Full Albums, Live Tracks on singles, B-Sides, and even Radio Edits. and I fell $99 would be a fair price, especially since I've spent like $20+ for some singles to just get the higher quality version of a track. yes I do love physical releases of music, since I have something to hold & display, but I also want to have a complete collection to listen to, and not so much to look at.

I wasn't listening to Ben back then, but the song is needing a completion. And I too was hoping for at least a rough stuido mix to be included.

Also, I have a copy that claims to be from 05?

I didn't read that all, but stopped at Careless Whisper. That's on the main disc, Allison.  I don't think it's the Summerstage one, though...

That's my favorite version. Mainly cause of the things Rufus says before they start.  Weird biases. Also, hence my specification.

Nah, that's cool, I love their little dialog before the song too.

If it's the same version on the actual CD then I retract it. ;)

Free Coffee (live at exit/in 2007)...Yeah I like how he has to restart that tune three times cause of mistakes in the beginning....AND...how the lyrics 'Santa Clause is coming to town'...end up in Jesusland from the same show/bootleg. Oh and how can we forget the Reunion show when he forgets to mention Grandma in the tune Regrets....good stuff I tell ya...

I think I know all the words it's that good. Even if it's cheesy. It's catchy. It's not my fault.

I have a few live "Make Me Mommy"s back with the RtS band which beat the SNOT out of the b-side recording. Can't remember the show my favourite is from, but I do remember that another song deviates into a partial Beastie Boys "Sabotage" cover. That would go on too.

Anyone know the show I'm talking about?

First, I was hoping for Don't Change Your Plans the original like 8 1/2 minute version that  Ben has talked about where it just all of a sudden morphs into the actual song like four minutes through......I was also hoping for just Ben Folds and a piano tour stuff....ie Don't Change Your Plans, You To Thank, and Steven's Last Night in Town....or basically anything from those three nights at the Vic Theatre. His cover of the Dresden Dolls' Jeep Song to lead off the third night was great. I think the most underrated Vault song thus far would have to be Where's Summer B Live, that was great.

I think Ziggy's is the one I had pinned for "Ben Folds Live 2". It was such a great opener.

My vault would also most certainly have the cassette version of Uncle Walter on it :)

Is there a boot of the Decorah show?  I went to Luther '98-'02 and we tried to get Ben to come up.  was stoked to hear he finally made it, but of course I couldn't get back up there.  Would love to hear the show seeing two+ songs from it are on your request list...

Are you from Iowa?

I um, maybe graduated from Wartburg in 08. I am a Wisconsinite, however.

No there's not a bootleg of the Luther Show.... but there used to be a youtube of f*ck It's Cold that I have the audio from. I just remember Bitch Went Nuts being especially hilarious at Luther.

Shut the f*ck up??

If I'm not mistaken, that's from the 9/21/01 show at the House of Blues in New Orleans where there was a group of obnoxious attendees behind/to the right of Ben that would not shut up. He started telling a story, kept getting interrupted, kept restarting the story and then finally broke into a short song.

At least that's what I remember happening when we were there that night.
