Transcription / Transcript Challenge: Break-up at Food Court
« on: September 14, 2014, 11:36:17 AM »
Just wondering if anyone out there worked out the chords of the Break-up at Food Court demo from the Best Imitation of myself or if someone wrote up sheet music? I love the music, and I want to try to finish the lyrics on my own.  :)

Does anyone know if a CD copy or link to an electronic download is included with the double vinyl?

When Ben was talking about the retrospective, he vetoed things like his cover of Twin Falls from his solo nights at The Vic because there was already a recorded version of the song (even if it was from ~15 years prior). It wouldn't surprise me if the tracklisting on Ben Folds Live and the live portion of the retrospective influenced just what all went onto this one.

I'm happy with a lot of it, but am pretty surprised at no Michael Praytor. It would be awesome to get stuff from last summer's tour, but I think there are at least a couple of really nice bootlegs floating around, so that's something?

I know we have beaten this to death Allison and David, but the shows at the Vic should have been released as an album...I have regrets...regrets, regrets (Ahhh ahhh AHHH) of only getting tickets to one night. The DCYP performance was just awesome.

Pretty excited about this, but I agree with Allison, Landed just doesn't feel right...I also wish they included some other songs from earlier in the tour, Fair in particular tops my a few of the shows the ending piano solo  and jam session was awesome and Robert and Darren were really pounding out the bass and drums as well. Some others just from shows I went to: Mess, Dr. Pyser,  Where's Summer, Emaline, Philosophy, Kate, Praytor, Army (how do you NOT include Kate and Army?) and yes I want Rock This Bitch in Chicago because it was great. When am I finally going to get a decent recording of Steven's last night in town live?

I got it for Christmas as well, I of course turned right to Draw A Crowd....sounds pretty accurate so far with the main riff...the vocal opening sounds semi-right, probably not easy to translate to piano.

The coolest thing about the show is that knew it was going to be cut short and really kicked it into overdrive to fit as much as they could in the set. When Ben went from Army to Kate, there was hardly even a stop and Robert looked up at him like whoa....I better turn it up a notch.

Anybody else out there think that "I knew that Cha' Could" was the pre-cursor for X-Fire by the Bens? Bass and drum pattern sound almost identical. Also anybody out there hammering out a transcription for Break-up at Food Court? That is my favorite unreleased track, just a great piano jam.  Really a shame that he didn't finish it. Unless he really meant to sing about Abe Lincoln  ;) Maybe I will have to come up with a second and third verse on my own ;D

Ditto, those shows at the Vic would be great.....I wish we had Dont' Change Your plans from that last night...that was great. Also, anyone else loving Break-up at Food Court? Granted fill-in lyrics like "Abe Lincoln good old man, washes his face in a frying pan" are a little ridiculous, but the music is outstanding.

First, I was hoping for Don't Change Your Plans the original like 8 1/2 minute version that  Ben has talked about where it just all of a sudden morphs into the actual song like four minutes through......I was also hoping for just Ben Folds and a piano tour Don't Change Your Plans, You To Thank, and Steven's Last Night in Town....or basically anything from those three nights at the Vic Theatre. His cover of the Dresden Dolls' Jeep Song to lead off the third night was great. I think the most underrated Vault song thus far would have to be Where's Summer B Live, that was great.

General Board / Re: What will you buy the "Retospective" album for?

Really looking forward to the alternate of Morgan Davis and the Hiro's Song demo.....also something I think that is being forgotten is the 55 other songs available for the Internet download...let me say this: if the original like 8 minute version of Don't Change Your Plans is on there and a solo piano version of Steven's Last Night In Town....I will be beyond happy.

I saw this listed on amazon as well for only 11.95, I would doubt that this is the 3 CD album that he is releasing.

Saw this on Ben's website posted through his twitter

He says a 3 CD set with another 55 songs that go along with it on the Internet!?!? :)

I am wondering if "album" might be 6-8 tracks and it gets shoved in with rarities, but I'm just really excited for new live material (I desperately hope it's from the 3 nights in Chicago.  that just screamed live recording).

@Normal....Let me say if the live show contains Dont' Change Your Plans from the shows at the Vic, man that will make my day....all three of those shows had a great crowd atmosphere. I would also like to have a live recording of Steven's Last Night In Town preferably from the show when he jammed on the drums with Guster, that was awesome. Another two brainstorm about songs recorded from the Orchestra performances? That would be pretty cool as well, or how about the debut performance of Picture Window performance from the World's Largest block party two summers ago.
