News / Kwami's FTP
« on: March 05, 2002, 03:01:32 AM »
Dan aka jkfett aka kwami has set up a new FTP for downloading or uploading Ben and BFF shows. He has most of the same Ben Folds shows that are elsewhere, but he also has the New Orleans show from last fall and a ton of BFF (not sure how common those are).

You have to use an FTP program to connect.

Here's his message from the armchair:

I have put up a sort of psuedo Clubhouse FTP. It's not a mirror, but it has lots of BFF and BF shows on it. Please do not hammer it. Also, it will kick you off if you're idle. If anyone wants to upload, feel free :)
There is no ratio for the BFF and BF stuff, but I do have a ratio site with other bootlegs that I'm putting up. E-mail me if interested in trading non-BFF bootlegs this way.
Here's the info:
id: BFF
pass: piano

If you can't connect, it means there are too many users on already.

News / Sad News for the UK
« on: March 31, 2002, 06:51:20 PM »
Regarding Andy's post on the News page, I'm the one who delivered the bad news that Ben doesn't plan to tour the UK anytime soon.  However, I'm not sure that Ben said specifically that HE was unhappy with the album sales in the UK... that may have been a misunderstanding or unclear communication on my part.  I guess that's what it comes down to, but he certainly didnt' indicate that it was his decision.  I can't remember exactly how he phrased it, but maybe Greyseal can?

Anyway, in light of recent announcements, I certainly wish I had just kept the news to myself.  :-X

News / Ben Quotes in a book
« on: May 03, 2002, 01:35:40 AM »
From Frank Maynard's site:

New book features quotes from Ben:Mouthing Off: A Book of Rock and Roll Quotes, due to be released in May, contains quotations and photographs of rock & roll, metal, punk and indie musicians. Described as "a fun, funny and entertaining book that you'll have a hard time putting down", several of Ben's quotes appear in John D. Luerssen's compilation, which is due to be released in May.

News / Live album to include video??? [not confirmed]
« on: July 06, 2002, 07:18:52 PM »
I posted this on the general board, but I think I'll throw it up here too...

An article in the Chicago Star implied that the Vic concert filmed last week would be part of the live album release!

Ben Folds fans got a double treat Friday at Chicago's Vic Theatre.

Not only did they get to see the rock piano man play a nearly two-and-a-half-hour set, but they also will be the extras in his fall 2002 live album and concert video. A crane-mounted camera was zooming in and out over the stage throughout the show, and another camera crew caught alternate shots moving back and forth on the stage behind Folds' piano.

I hope this is true!

Can anyone who was at the show remember what Ben said about it being filmed?
(This link will probably only work for a few days before it is moved to paid archives.)

News / Ben Folds Video (DVD sample??)
« on: September 25, 2002, 02:19:20 AM »
This was posted at the .org a couple of days ago, and I'm not sure how it got overlooked. has a video of Ben Folds playing Rockin' the Suburbs... I think it's Boston (and the company is in Mass).  It is NOT Chicago.

It's only a clip of the song, but it is LOVELY, and of course we're wondering if this is what we can expect from the DVD.

Click to enter the site, then click live video, and you will see Ben Folds as one of the options.  FYI, I didn't have any luck just clicking on the link. I had to right click and download in order to view it.

News / BFF's Honey Don't on DVD!
« on: October 09, 2002, 01:50:07 AM »
Good Rockin' Tonight DVD was released today too... BFF on DVD once again!  :D

Release date, Oct.8, 2002

Historians may never agree about where and when rock 'n' roll was born, but they do agree that an entrepreneur in the world of music named Sam Phillips began a revolution and spawned a legacy when he created Sun Records. This Memphis-based success story defined some of the most appealing roots of American popular culture with such seminal artists as Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and so many others, all reprised in this two-hour American Masters film with such performers as Paul McCartney, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and Live, many accompanied by Elvis' original sidemen, Scotty Moore and D.J. Fontana.

Highlights include a moving rendition of "Lonely Weekends" with Jerry Lee Lewis and Matchbox Twenty, and an emotional reunion of old Mississippi Delta musicians. 112 minutes

That's All Right (Paul McCartney)
Honey Don't (Ben Folds Five)
Rock n' Roll Ruby (Mark Knopfler)
I Walk the Line (Live)
My Bucket's Got a Hole in It (Robert Plant & Jimmy Page)
Blue Suede Shoes (Johnny Hallyday)
Who Will the Next Fool Be (Zucchero)
Cry, Cry, Cry (Third Eye Blind)
Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee (Malcolm Yelvington and Kid Rock)
Lonely Weekend (Matchbox Twenty)

Aint he sweet? I wonder what you get...

News / Message from Ben at the .com!
« on: January 24, 2003, 02:21:42 AM »
Hey everybody! Ben has a note up at the official site.

Lots of good stuff here... recording with lee and kweller! Songs they wrote together! Ben doing a few university gigs in April! Stuff!

Here's the full note:

hello all,

i just wanted to pop a note into the website to tell you what i'm doing... here goes:

this week i'm going to be having cereal for breakfast most of the time. besides that, i'll be recording with my buds ben lee and ben kweller. just a few songs we're writing together. then i'm fleeing the country for a couple of months. going back to australia to finish writing songs for the next album, a japan tour, and an australian tour with 'the bens'. by then, i'll probably have switched over to grits, but we'll see how i feel when i wake up in the morning.

that brings us up to april. i have a few quick university engagements (not the college lecture circuit...) and then i'll begin recording the next album. it's taken a while to get the studio together. also, i'll be producing the william shatner record when we can get our schedules straightened out. he's looking into adding more hours into the day, or more days into the week; he's got considerable influence.

anyway, that's the news. bla bla bla. thanks tons for coming out to my gigs, downloading my records and talking shit about me. love you all. pray for my recording sessions. eat your vegetables and floss once a day.

Here's the link (there's a pic):

Oh, also, there are pictures of Ben & Joe Jackson at the official site.

HA! I just got that... thanks for downloading my records.  Oh, that Ben!
