Album Board / Re: Ben Folds orders his solo and Ben Folds Five releases
« on: September 25, 2015, 07:14:55 PM »
I agree with the top 4, but in a rotating order that there's no way I could decide *a* number 1, ya know? I do think he's too hard on the SOTLOTM, but I can see where he's coming from that it didn't "sound like 2012". That being said. Away When You Were Here is one of my all time favorite Bf5 songs, and Erase Me is killer. I think it, and So There are too new (yes, 3 years) to really be able to retrospectively look at them. I very much agree with WtN being bottom. It feels forced. We know it was kind of forced/rushed. I agree, Silverman seems mid-tempo all the way through, but You to Thank has one of Ben's best piano lines, imo.

Feels like picking children. They can't ALL grow up to be doctors/lawyers/etc

Does anyone know who his new girlfriend is?

Last we knew - officially - was that he was Alicia Witt, but the two of them have not appeared together/communicated (outside of promoting each other's records, he produced hers, she co-wrote "I'm Not the Man) for several months. That being said, I'm not going to do any sort of theorizing. Last time I theorized, turns out he wasn't pissed. (Circa 2007)

Thanks, yeah, I read Alica's year-old FanBridge post that someone else linked to (http://bit.ly/1Qx6Wgv) saying that she broke up with him, but I didn't know if he'd been seen with or mentioned anyone new. Obviously the Billboard writer knows there's someone. Hope we'll find out eventually!

Whoa, june 2014. Further back than I realized! Dude doesn't stay single long, traditionally. If we're meant to know I guess we'll know. He kept Fleur a secret till after they were married.

Album Board / Re: 'So There' Debuts at #1 on Billboard Classical Music Chart

I am disappointed on the Album Sales Chart - Sound of the Life of the Mind came in at 10. But this is a different type of album, and an indie label.
But I am happy that he has a number 1 on any chart!

Was Losing Lisa ever a Ben Folds Five song?  Frally is listed as the co-writer.

I wasn't aware then, but Frally was around Messner Era, using the Twins' birthday and Messner's "birthday" as reference. Band wouldn't break up for another year.

So hard to choose beyond So There and I'm not the Man, both fantastic songs. I love the first break in So There.

I totally agree. I voted for the underdog. Which is I'm Not the Man currently.

My head-canon for the Messner follow up has been:

It's Alright with God
Tell Me What I Did
Break Up at the Food Court
Wandering
Amelia Bright
The Secret Life of Morgan Davis
Price Charming
Rock Star
I Knew That'cha Could
Hero's Song
Losing Lisa

(In that order)

Aren't (I could be wrong) Carrying Cathy and Sentimental Guy that era-ish too? Though, 11 makes a solid record

I'm a I'm Not the Man fan (don't care if it was written for a film first) and So There. I gave I'm Not the Fan because it's behind in the polls ;)

They are all numbered 1. That is freaking weird. I wonder if some employee didn't change the stamp or they just said f*ck it, make 'em all #1! Ben did say the cost of the print was is more than the whole package.

I still have a DVD player attached to my TV (is that not a thing anymore?) .... so that was no problem.

I am NOT giving you an option for all of the above. Sorry friends. I have set it up where you can change your vote, but I'm curious about what song grabbed your attention the most in the initial week with the record.

Wandering is Ben/Darren

Wasn't it primarily a Ben composition with a Darren contribution (a la Brick)?  Also, was Darren co-writer of Food Court or It's All Right With God?

Brick is a Folds/Jessee composition - even if Darren just wrote the chorus (like Brick) he still gets line credit.

What I know about Food Court - is that's a Folds only. It's All Right With God I think is probably credited all three (oddly though, they played it at the 2006 live at My Space concert). Seems like a instrumental/jam -like For All the Pretty People, which is a Folds/Jessee/Sledge song.
