Not the Same (typical 3-part harmony with an added octave I believe for those sopranos in the crowd)
I think that about does it. The first time I saw Ben was at the Town Hall about five years ago so it was really cool to come back. This was the first time I saw him solo and I loved it. The songs take a whole new form when you've only heard them played by the band. Time was so awesome to hear, and Steven's Last Night in Town into Hiro's Song was definitely a highlight. At the end of Steven's a roadie came out with a tom drum and sticks and Ben started playing the recognizable drum riff in the song. The crew then built an entire drum set around him adding one piece at a time while Ben was playing. It was really awesome. He then told us the story of Hiro's song and played it entirely on drums. I finally got to check Jackson Cannery off my list!! The Bitch Went Nutz was also really cool because he played it with a maraca in his left hand and the base riff on the piano with his right. He kept saying he wanted to make this show different from the night before and looking at the previous set, there were some similarities but some awesome differences. Good Job Ben! That was his justification for playing Give Judy My Notice which he said he never plays. I thought I heard him play it at one of the 15 or so shows at I've been to in the last five years, but it was definitely cool to hear the Speed Graphic version. Awesome awesome show!
