Transcription / [LYRICS] Thank You For Breaking My Heart
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:18:55 AM »
Think this is all right.

Yeah, I want a different answer
So I ask you once again
But the truth's in the silence
and this time I got it
It's over

Thank you for breaking my heart
Now I know that it's in there
I left it wide open
and asked you to stay
but you know better

Guess I thought it wouldn't happen
and I could care until it hurt
damn the ironic timing
the clouds and their linings
that open up and pour

And thank you for breaking my heart
Now I know that it's in there
What a fool to imagine
that you'd feel the same
but you know better

Rain has washed the leaves away
Skeletons and stars
I'm pulling the door to
And closing the blinds

So thank you for breaking my heart
Now I know what it feels like
and it hurts so badly
Tell me this will pass
Soon enough know better

Transcription / [LYRICS] Draw a Crowd
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:16:13 AM »
Does anyone know who/what Fenella Thunder might be? I'm sure I'm just not hearing it properly. (Updated based on the below)
Please feel free to update, tell me where I might be wrong, etc.

Damn

I ordered something
It took a while
This morning something
was on my doorstep

What's this I'm holding
Time Capsule order
Cause I'm a brand new man
And I don't think I want it

I don't think I want it

A row of flags
Hanging behind me
A garden of mics and questions
And photo flashes blind me

And I'm so hot
I can't recall my statements
I only know I made 'em
Because my face vibrated

(Is it all in my mind?)
I could have sworn I saw it
(I thought I was fine)
Defined is what I call it

Oh, if you're feeling small
if you can't draw a crowd,
draw dicks on the wall

Oh, if you're feeling small
and you can't draw a crowd,
draw dicks on the wall

I was gruntled when
It was just feet on gravel
to have come apart
I must have once been ravelled

Now I'm pretty free says
don't mean a thing
And I want to settle
I sing the line again

So smooth you can hear the beard
So smooth you can hear the beard (you can hear the beard)
Sometimes it's poetry
So smooth you can hear the beard

Oh, if you're feeling small
and you can't draw a crowd,
draw dicks on the wall

Oh, if you're feeling small
and you can't draw a crowd,
draw dicks on the wall
if you can't draw a crowd,
draw dicks on the wall

And if you can't draw a crowd
semaphore what you can draw

I'm just sayin'

I-I-I-I'm just sayin'
what is sayin
that I'm just sayin'
lend any weight
to what I'm saying

Oh it's come back again
I can't ignore it
I'm a brand new man
but I'm still paying for it

Oh, if you're feeling small
and you can't draw a crowd
draw dicks on the wall

Oh, if you're feeling small
and you can't draw a crowd
draw dicks on the wall
if you can't draw a crowd
draw dicks on the wall
if you can't draw a crowd
draw dicks on the wall

And if you can't draw a crowd
semaphore what you can draw

I only wanted
to be Stevie Wonder
But I got to settle
for this vanilla thunder
(If you can't Draw a crowd)
Oooh, this vanilla thunder
(If you can't Draw a crowd)
Oooh, this vanilla thunder
(If you can't Draw a crowd)
Tears of vanilla thunder
(You can't draw a crowd, if you're feeling small)

Transcription / [LYRICS] On Being Frank
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:14:57 AM »
Got most of this one, just a couple of wooly words right in the middle I can't pickup. (Updated, and nominally finished)
Please feel free to update, tell me where I might be wrong, etc.

I had it all
Or should I say I saw it all?

And it's a long way from the
dustbin of New Jersey to the top
who would have known?

Who would have known?

I had a dream
But dreams had other plans for me

For thirty years I set the thermostat
where Frank Sinatra liked it
pulled his girls and hung his hats
I never knew which ones were mine
now he's gone
I'm alone

And I don't know where I might be going
Rode the wind, the wind stopped blowing
Set me on the roadside coming home

But no
from me it was always someone else you know
That shadows always fall
when the sun goes down

I shook the hands
of mafia dons and presidents
and though they always smiled politely
with a measure of decorum
still their eyes would scan beyond me
for a glimpse of something more
But now he's gone
Now they're gone

And I don't know where I might be going
Rode the wind, the wind stopped blowing
Set me on the roadside coming home

But oh
For me it was always some one else you know
That shadows always fall
when the sun goes down

Alone
The shadow of a star, don't you know
That shadows always fall
yeah shadows always fall
and then the sun goes down

And I don't know where I might be going
Rode the wind, the wind stopped blowing
Set me on the roadside coming home

And Home
For me it was always some one else you know

Transcription / [LYRICS] The Sound of the Life of the Mind
« on: September 13, 2012, 11:13:52 AM »
I need some help here. There seem to be quite a few probably American references I just can't get. But the bulk is done.
Please feel free to update, tell me where I might be wrong, etc.

Aped's brother wants to beat up Paul
The boys have gone to watch,
Some of the girls are down at the mall,
Justine's got Cherry Cola and scotch,
la da da da

Later on it's everyone round to Bec's
Her parents are away in New York
Sarah, well, she just can't bear
the stupidity, the porn and the grime
She stays at school so that she can hear
the sound of the life of the mind

And it's noisy up there
It rocks like a mother
Rosa Parks and DNA
Joan of Arc and JFK
But it's noisy up there
It rocks like a mother

She's cut 'em all out of her social circle
Won't introduce them to (Lee and or Frost)?
Doesn't wanna let them get to know (possibly Keith R Startz, deceased US politician)
They'll never know what they have lost

But Sarah well she just can't bear
The stupidity the boredom and lying
She stays at school so that she can hear
the sound of the life of the mind

And it's noisy up there
It rocks like a mother
Burning Cuts? and Fortunes Wheel
????? and ?????
But it's noisy up there
It rocks like a mother

Sarah already knows
Pretty soon she'll be leaving
She'll be suited up in whatever she can find
She doesn't want to hear about
pregnancies
foam fights, TV takeouts
have sex, weddings
the sound of the life she'll leave behind

Yeah it's noisy up here
it rocks like a mother
And it's noisy up there
It rocks like a mother

General Board / One Angry iPod
« on: March 18, 2009, 11:12:06 AM »
So, I got a new (old cause I don't like the 3rd Gen ones) iPod Shuffle, and you get free engraving.

And it's small. You could say it's a dwarf...

General Board / Dr Yang - What are they saying at the end?
« on: January 09, 2009, 01:00:07 PM »
Hit me hit me hit me?

Right under the music at the very end.

Tour Board / London 30-11-08
« on: November 30, 2008, 03:57:53 PM »
So. Apart from Ben's amnesia being pretty bad, was that not the best ever? A bit SFS heavy for me, and no SSSG at all, but Fair! Emaline! Lullabye! Fred Jones Pt 2! The fastest OAD ever! YDKM with some random woman!

I admit I was worried about Tambo-man and Random-other-instrument-man turning up full time, but the five of them were great together, and having Tambo-man adding percussion and ROI-man on synths and keyboards was ace. They even got cheered when they walked on.

The new stuff really works now, doesn't it? It really suits Sam and Jared a lot more than the BFF stuff does. Sam is still utterly amazing and wild, I really like him as a drummer. He's also learned to keep a stash of drumsticks about his person for when he throws them around.

Not going to attempt a tracklisting, they played for two hours and did OAD as an encore because it was all there was time for before the curfew.

My best gig so far, I think.

Tour Board / London Meet up?
« on: November 16, 2008, 11:58:47 AM »
So... Anyone fancy a bit of a London meet up before the gig?

General Board / What we like - Last FM Mashup
« on: October 27, 2008, 01:08:41 PM »
So, I was looking at the "What are you listening to?" thread, and the Last.fm group we have and I was thinking we could do better than this.

So, my thought is to create a page where you can actually find out what we're all listening to, from Last.fm, along with other things - what is our favourite Ben song? Who was the last person to listen to a Ben Song? When did *you* last listen to a Ben song? What is our favourite non-Ben song? And anything else you can think of.

So basically, I'm after two things.
1. Are you happy for me to include you in my test page? (This will have no effect on your account, I just don't want to use people's scrobbles unless they agree!)
2. Do you have any ideas for features?

If you're happy to take part, just reply or (preferably) PM me, and if you have any ideas, post them!

Oh, and if anyone can think of a clever name, that would be good too.

I hope to have a prototype up and running next week.

The bitch has very much been sufficiently rocked.

General Board / I found Summer B!
« on: October 20, 2008, 09:05:58 AM »
So.

One of my colleagues today was trying to send an e-mail. It kept bouncing back. It was to someone called Summer B!

Needless to say I told her to ask the company "Hey Summer, where you been?". She refused.

Album Board / Cologne: That's it
« on: October 13, 2008, 12:01:33 PM »
Does anyone else feel that the "That's it" at the end of the vocal of the album version of Cologne feels just a little... rude?

Here's this lovely song, and it's just as though Ben's just singing the words as quickly as possible and couldn't give a shit...

13
General Board / Live near Sheffield or Bristol? Amanda needs you!
« on: October 06, 2008, 03:18:44 PM »
Apparently Amanda Palmer is only half sold out in Sheffield and Bristol, and so she needs you to turn up and support her gig!

What with breaking her leg and lots of other stuff, it sounds like she's had a pretty sh*tty time on tour, and she gives a f*cking amazing show (at least she did tonight) so GO ALONG ALREADY.

There we go Amanda - I did as I was told :)

General Board / Ben on Chris Moyles. Sort of.
« on: September 16, 2008, 12:53:07 PM »
I get up early. So I hear the start of Chris Moyles show when I'm mostly asleep. Imagine my surprise when his opening montage music used the intro to Zak and Sara! It's in another jingle they're using while in LA too.

OK. That's all.

General Board / Yikes - I just bought a bass!
« on: August 23, 2008, 02:45:10 AM »
Now I just have to learn how to play it...
