General Board / The Luckiest -- instrumental?
« on: February 14, 2013, 01:57:22 PM »
A friend of mine is looking for an instrumental version of The Luckiest to walk down the aisle to at her wedding. I'm not sure that anything like that exists, but any thoughts/suggestions?

Album Board / Those other 55 tracks...
« on: September 22, 2011, 05:02:27 AM »
So, excited as I am for these three CDs and the reunion and all, I keep coming back to the FIFTY-FIVE "vault" songs we're going to have access to as well.

Seriously, 55 unreleased pieces of work? Yes, I'm sure we've heard at least a few of them, but holy crap! \m/

Tour Board / Columbus, Ohio 11/8/10 setlist
« on: November 08, 2010, 08:37:52 PM »
Epic. I'll post what I can remember.

Opened with a slowed down version of A Working Day, then immediately into Doc Pomus but there was some popping noises in the speakers that startled him and made him stop. He joked about it and then went into a full version of A Working Day.

Can't remember the order of everything, but he played:
Gone
Hiroshima
Levi Johnston's Blues
Claire's Ninth
Belinda
Rockin' The Suburbs
The Luckiest (solo) you could hear a pin drop on this one
From Above
Saskia Hamilton
Army
Zak & Sara
Kate
Two improv songs about being in Columbus, both of which were fantastic
Bastard
Landed
Annie Waits
Still Fighting It
The Bitch Went Nuts
Effington

Encore was
Some serious drum solos
Bitches Ain't Shit
Not The Same

It was a full two hours, and he apologized because he's a bit under the weather and missed some high notes.

Five total musicians including Ben, and no more Jared Reynolds? I must have missed that memo.

Who else was there?

Album Board / Cologne
« on: September 30, 2008, 07:29:09 PM »
So I resisted the urge to download the album before it leaked, as well as the urge to listen to the fake songs. It's been rough, but that meant that today I got to listen to the new album in all its glory from front to back. My preferred way to listen to new albums.

Anyway...I'm sitting here on my computer, working on an article for tomorrow (I'm a sports writer) and I was absolutely blown away by Cologne. What a deep, introspective and what sounds like a deeply personal song. I seriously stopped writing for the entire time so I could pay better attention to every note, because hearing this song was clearly a memory I wanted to be able to cherish.

Anyone else feel this way about the song? I think it might be his best, most emotional song.

News / New album tidbit from Columbus
« on: March 05, 2008, 09:37:04 PM »
So Ben said at the show tonight that they have finished recording the new album and they will be mixing it on Monday. They recorded some crowd stuff for the Hiroshima song.

Just thought I'd pass that along. Also, I remember hearing that Ben recently went through a divorce but my girlfriend noticed he definitely had his wedding band still on. Thoughts?

Tour Board / So Columbus rocked...
« on: March 05, 2008, 09:35:07 PM »
Just got back, and Ben was amazing. Took my girlfriend to her first Ben show and she absolutely LOVED it. She's a keeper.
Let's see how much of the setlist I can remember (in no particular order after the first two songs)
Errant Dog (?)
Gone
Zak & Sara
Landed
Brick
Underground
Lullaby
Rockin' The Suburbs
Kate
Losing Lisa
Narcolepsy
Still Fighting It
Hiroshima (which was absolutely hilarious)
Hava Nagila (or however you spell it)
One Angry Dwarf...
Not The Same
Army
Fred Jones Part 2
The Last Polka
An improv song about the dicks on the walls of the dressing room at the Newport that also segued into Rock This Bitch
You To Thank
One other new song I didn't know about all women being bitches. Jared brought out his iPhone so we could hear the intro
Bitches Ain't Shit
Annie Waits

I think that was all. He didn't talk as much as I've seen him at previous shows, but that was fine as he rocked out more songs, it seemed. Great show all around.

Anyone else there? Think a recording might surface somewhere?

They just announced here on CD101 that Ben will be playing the Newport Music Hall here in Columbus on March 5. No word on support or ticket prices or anything, but I called the radio station to confirm it.

Heck yea!  \m/

News / Landed single
« on: September 07, 2005, 01:18:12 PM »
Hey guys...

First off, I'm brand-new to this board, and I'm at work so I will get more information later. However, I noticed that people don't seem to believe there is an actual, hard-copy "Landed" single. I was in NYC this past June and I bought one there in the import section. I'll get more details when I go home and post them tomorrow, but I know it had "Cooler than you" and "Rockin' the suburbs" live, and a cover of someone else's song whose name escapes me. Does anyone else have this?
