Night before last when I talked to him he said that they hadn't been specifically recording tracks for the new album; they had just been jamming for a while, finding what they liked.

Feel free to resize it.  I could even send you the original if you'd like to use that, as a lot of quality was lost when I compressed it to 700MB. (I don't have much experience with video compression, I know it *should* be able to be smaller though)

Andy and smokingpanda,

It's 700MB--just small enough to fit on a cd.
Audio quality is very good, video is TV-quality, but in dvd aspect ratio.  I have a better quality video version that's about 2GB.

I'm not sure how much bandwidth I have before it gets capped.

Sorry, all of the seeds have probably disconnected and I don't think the tracker's up either.  Bit torrent is great for fast downloads, but they often don't last long.  Hang on a while and when Breakup At The Food Court is launched I'm sure we'll re-seed a lot of these.

I think it's all pretty subjective.  I'd recommend reading Nick Hornby's essay on Smoke for a different perspective of the song.  I personally like TUBORM because it feels more like an album than the others, but the one I like best changes all the time.

I didn't see it posted anywhere over here, but Ben will be performing in Nashville at Uptown Mix on September 15th, and at St. Louis University on October 8th.

I've been uploading at around 11KB/s for the last 8 hours, hang in there and eventually we'll have some more seeds.

Ben's Old Five / Reverb / Hard Rock VIDEOS

Somebody asked me to make it known that we're now in the process of spreading the Ben Folds Five Hard Rock/Reverb videos.  We've moved into the 21st century, so it's bittorrent all the way.  The torrent has three files: a text file, a cd image, and a .cue file.  Open the .cue file with your favorite cd burning program and you should be able to make a nice SVCD that will play in most DVD players, or your cdrom drive.

As usual, please don't try to sell these, though they're not exactly the type of thing that would make people money on the market.

Without further ado, here's the link:

If there is significant interest for a standalone downloader for those who don't have bittorrent, I can probably make one.  But do yourself a favor and download bittorrent:  It's a great tool.

Here's what I have from the Atlanta show (the most amazing one yet in my opinion)

Atlanta, GA

1.  Short Bus Benny
2.  One Angry Dwarf
3.  Zak and Sara
4.  Annie Waits
5.  The Luckiest
6.  Eddie Walker
7.  Mess
8.  Brick
9.  Kate
10. Where's Summer B.?
11. Captain Weenie
12. Underground
13. Alice Childress
14. Ascent of Stan
15. Emaline
16. Gone
17. Still Fighting It
18. Army
19. Video
20. Evaporated
21. Philosophy
22. Dr. Pyser (straight from Philosophy)
23. In Love
24. Secret Life of Morgan Davis
25. Narcolepsy
26. Lullabye
27. Rockin the Suburbs
28. Kumbaya
29. Not the Same
30. Last Polka
31. Tiny Dancer
32. Girl
33. Boxing
34. Song for the Dumped (Minor)

In short, this was the most amazing concert I've ever been to.  He played for approximately 2 1/2 hours (9:00 to 11:40) and mostly played rather than talking.  He said that we were the best singers that he had heard, then we sang Kumbaya, which turned into "Captain Weenie". Early on someone had held up a sign telling him to say "Captain Weenie is God" so he made up a song about it (similar to Satan is my Master) and any time his songs said "god" he replaced it with "Captain Weenie".  He also did a really funny Bruce Springstein voice.

And, last general recording question: (sorry if there's a better place for this, I just have to get a response by tomorrow)

Is my laptop's line-in as good as a minidisc?  Because it seems like I could just bring my laptop and not have to worry about switching discs, etc. (I'd probably bring both in case they wouldn't let me take my laptop in)  I have a Sharp 722 minidisc recorder and Shure cardiod mics.

After I get the show on minidisc, is it worth it to transfer to computer using digital-out, or is it pretty much the same using the analog-outs?  I was just wondering because I'd have to find someone who had a md deck with digital-out if I ended up transferring it digitally.

And you can most definitely add me to the list for Lexington 10/22.  I now have a minidisc recorder and can't wait to go to this concert!

I don't actually have my own equipment, I'm just borrowing it from a friend.  I'm going to play around with the recorder some before going to the concert, but I'm completely new to minidisc recording/taping in general.  Would someone at the Lexington show be able to help me out? (I know sort of how it should be done, I've just never done it before)

I'm currently planning on taping the Lexington, KY show on Oct. 22nd.

I just saw them live for the first time last night, they're great.  Now I have to run out and buy all of their cds.  I'm serious. :-)
