Ben's Old Five / Re: How did you discover BF5 / BF?
« on: December 20, 2012, 05:32:52 PM »
My first exposure was 1996. I was at uni in the UK and one of my friends kept asking for Underground to be played in the union bar. I liked it and borrowed the album off him, liked that and bought the album myself. Listened to it a lot BUT it was a period of my life when I wasn't really into music so when WEAEA came out I just assumed it wouldn't be very good, I think as a lot of the bands I had listened to up until then seemed to tail off rapidly after a first stellar album.

Anyhoo, fast forwards to 2009 and I was digitising all my CD's and happened to be listening to a particular song ("Let Your Love Flow" by The Bellamy Brothers for the nosy :) ) and the next track in the list was "Annie Waits". Listened to it, liked it, listened to it again. Worked out who it was, listened to the album, loved the album and then proceeded to just go completely Ben crazy. Absolutely kicking myself that I didn't get to see Ben or the Five up until 2009.

That's pretty much it really. I've seen Ben solo 6 or 7 times and now the Five once in Sydney where I live. I'm fairly shy so I don't think i'd ever be able to wait around to get an autograph or a photo but I can live in hope :)

...Words just can't describe how awesome this set was!

Yeah, I was really blown away. Especially with how much fun they seemed to be having with it as well. Really hope they come back to Aus to tour next year. One hour was no way near enough!

Yamaha P85. Nicely weighted keys, a couple of good piano voices and a few more random other ones. Works for me!

Tour Board / Manchester 24th February 2011

Didn't write the set-list down, sorry  :(

Wasn't too sure about this show. A nice venue and everything but I didn't feel the crowd were all that in to it. Lots of empty seats and lots of people just talking through the whole set.

Also seemed to be a lot of pissed b*st*rds in the front who kept screaming "Rock This Bitch!!" during any quiet point (even during songs). Eventually Ben got round to doing Rock This Bitch in Manchester which was pretty good and at the end people were STILL screaming "Rock This Bitch"...so he did a second RTB about how rude one guy in the audience was. Very funny indeed, especially when he picked up his keyboard and played while doing a jig  \m/

Encore was the fast OAD and that was it.

Really enjoyed this show, probably my second favourite ever. Lots of people rocking out in the front and Ben was on good form. The venue was pretty cool as well.

Rock This Schlampe was great and getting to hear Lullabye was very cool as well  \m/

First time at The Institute - not my favourite venue ever...though I think I am getting old and need to site down these days. Is it me or did that place have way too many people for the amount of space...I couldn't even get my hands in the air it was that tightly packed...

Anyway, I have some shots up from Birmingham last night: http://tinyurl.com/333w9jl

Yeah indeed. I got there for about 7.00 with "unreserved seat" tickets (doors opened at 6.30 and Kate started at 7.30) and it was literally so crowded that there was nowhere to stand that I could actually see the stage. From my point of view it was preposterously packed for the size of the place.

Really enjoyed this one. Like others I found it started off slowly with the crowd not really getting into the Lonely Avenue stuff. However it picked up well and was absolutely rocking by the end  \m/

Also, I got to see my first ever stool toss  ;D

General Board / Re: Buying a digital piano
« on: December 01, 2010, 02:42:30 AM »
Don't know about the Kawai but I say do it! I've got a Yamaha digital piano and i'm very happy with it. It plays well, doesn't ever need tuning AND has the added bonus that I can turn down the volume or wear headphones if I want to practise at night or when Mrs Galona is watching the TV. It even copes well with things like half pedaling.

Personally if I ever get to a situation where I can have a real piano I will BUT for now i'm happy with the digital.
