It was a great show. I'm going again tonight so will keep a track of the set list for any changes. Still hoping for Evaporated...

Enjoy tonight mate, and look forward to hearing tomorrow how it went.

Aamzing show, felt they were really tight both playing and on harmonies from the off (Michael Praytor has never been my favourite form teh new album but I might go back and relisten after hearing it live).

Surprised they finished about 10 minutes before 11 - could have queezed one more in!  I'll also be interested to see what the set list for tomorrow night is like - the UK sets have all been very similar, but Ben always used to mix it up quite a lot when doing two dates in London (back in the day when I would be able to go to both shows!) so I wonder if there will be much variation - anyone going that can keep a set list?

Anyway, a brilliant night and, after being a fan for about 14 years, my first BFF gig!

Set List

Michael Praytor
Missing the War
Hold That Thought
Jackson Cannery
*Quick comment about how good it was to be back in London, and that this was where they first felt understood - they could do interviews and mess around, and the press would realise that they were messing around (although they still didn't laugh as it wasn't funny!)*
Selfless Cold and Composed
Erase Me
Rock This Bitch (about talking too much and then about the last gig Ben went to in London, Rage Against The Machine in 1997.  He wanted to grab some food so had a burger, and the next day mad cow disease was announced - that was the last burger he ever had!)
Alice Childress
Sky High
Draw A Crowd
Uncle Walter
Thank You For Breaking My Heart
Do It Anyway (with Jesus Christ Superstar adlib)
Song For The Dumped

Remember his altercation?  Heck, it may still be morry's sig line. :)

Sure enough:;u=344

Ha! Brill. A historical artefact from this board's only serious falling out (to date).

Might be my memory Andy, but I'm pretty sure there were other chunky disputes back in the of the Benvivor rounds springs to mind...!

Anyway, dragging back on topic, this has all kind of snuck up on me.  I've ordered the 3-CD set from the OS, so waiting for that to arrive and then will delve into the vault (and no doubt add my 20 contribution to Ben's pension :P).  Looking forward particularly to the Jesusland version, and remember standing with you watching that one Andy!

So, anyway, I'm going to go back to the lurker depths I just dredged myself up from, but thought I'd just say hi.

J...still watching you

another new one!

Thanks for the link.

Cracked me up when reading the blurb on that site about the song only ever having been performed by BFF once before in April 2000 at Scranton U with the parenthetical "don't ask me how he knew that."

Shoulda been playing Benvivor back in the day.  Right, James?

Right Fan, although he'd have lost for being wrong ;)

First listened to this late last night when I got in and liked it (but wasn't blown away).

However, I've found myself humming it all morning today, and listened over a few times.  It's much more hooky than I thought at first and its growing on me.

I agree with some of the comments that the production is more Lonely Avenue/recent BF and not traditional BFF, but then they have more produciton budget these days (I bet it it hasn't been recorded in a house with egg boxes on the walls) so why not make something that sounds good and clean?

Any which way, it's great to have a new BFF track after more than 10 years.

I love A Working Day.  I just wish it was a longer song.

I second that. It's quirky and catchy but waaay too short.

Ironically, the complete opposite to a working day.

No great surprise, seeing as Ben is a big fan of his Mac - quid pro quo I would say.

Ooh, I just noticed Spinner's top 50, which you put above Allison - Amy Winehouse at number 1?  Really?  REALLY?

Amy Winehouse is terrible - I can see no merit in her music whatsoever (and this is disregarding her as a person).  She has a strange, wingey voice that really grates and, imho, very little talent.

I think these lists really struggle to seperate "successful" from "great" - a lot of sales doesn't make an album good.  You have to bear in mind that a large proportion of the popultation are stupid or tone-deaf. a Christmasy rant

Top 10 Albums
1 American Saturday Night by Brad Paisley
2 Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors
3 Crack the Skye by Mastodon
4 Revolution by Miranda Lambert
5 Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix
6 Love vs. Money by The-Dream
7 Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Pt 2 by Raekwon
8 Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear
9 I and Love and You by the Avett Brothers
10 The Fame Monster by Lady Gaga

Is it me, or is it strange that, to my knowledge, only one of those albums has had any success in the UK - Lady Gaga (who, on an entirely seperate note, I think is awful)?  While all these UK artists go on about breaking America (or at least that's what we're told), its strange that none of these have broken the UK...

Just had another listen to the demo here and I think it "crown on London", not over.

Good quality recording - think it's all correct otherwise!

Late to the party, but just to say - best Foldsby song yet.  Great concept, funny and kind of touching lyrics, good melody hooks - brilliant.
