Tour Board / Re: Atlanta, GA - The Tabernacle - 11/21/2010

I thought it was a pretty solid setlist, especially compared to some of the previous days. They seemed to be having more fun than they usually would since this was basically the end of the tour.  Plus, this was the first time I've seen Ben play the drums AND the bass! One of the more enjoyable shows out of the 10 I've now been to.

It's hilarious to me that every time Ben comes out with a new album, it's somewhat bashed and compared to the previous album, which everyone then hails as a great album.  That seems to be happening with WtN now. I'm pretty sure every Folds album that's been released has been bashed until the next album came out, when it's considered great.  It's just weird.  Not that I haven't been guilty of the same.

Well, I've been absent on here for quite some time, but I figure now is a good time to comment

After about eight or so listens to the album, it's already surpassed Way to Normal for me.  Something about the album resonates with me.  The first time I heard Levi Johnston Blues making the rounds on youtube, I absolutely hated it.  And I hated it when I actually heard it live the first time.  After hearing it on the album, it somehow became one of my favorite Folds songs of recent memory.  It's funny, it's catchy, and I find myself going back to it all the time.  Picture Window is a good song, not my favorite though.  For some reason I compare it in my mind to Carrying Cathy, which is by far my favorite Folds song.  But I agree with Jpar, I like the pop version better.  There really isn't any on this album I hate, which I couldn't say for WtN.  Some of them haven't grown on me yet (Practical Amanda), but I'm willing to bet they will.  All in all, I think Nick Hornby's writing style fits well with Folds music, and I'm really digging this album.  Can't wait to hear more of it live.

Does anyone else find it annoying that they won't post the prices of the VIP packages for the Nashville Symphony show? I have to know if it's worth it or not.....

Tickets for Boston go on sale tomorrow at noon. At this time I have a class which in my three years of college is the only class to ever explicitly forbid the use of laptops. FML!

iPhones always work. I've found that out over the years in my classes buying tickets....

It's like Ben Folds just wants me to see him live. Both the dates within driving distance work PERFECTLY for me.... in ATL on Sunday and on Nashville the next Saturday... a day in which Alabama would normally be playing Auburn and where I would be.... but the game is on Friday this year. Thanks Ben!

So... does this mean we are gonna be forced to buy the iTunes version as well because we won't get the extra stuff?

Also, when did Ben Folds win a Grammy?

0.6 song (not too familiar with the story on this, but he said it was the 0.6 song, and played what he could remember)

This song was girl. Really surprised to see him play it.
All in all a terrific show.

Ben Folds - Atlanta, GA - The Tabernacle Setlist - March 14, 2010

•Free Coffee
•Annie Waits
•Sentimental Guy
•Eddie Walker
•All U Can Eat
•Picture Window
•Levi Johnston Blues
•You Don't Know Me
•Still Fighting It
•Freebird/Sweet Home Alabama/Rock This Bitch in Atlanta in the Lydian Scale
•Zak and Sara
•Sanford and Sons Interlude
•Not the Same

•Bitches Ain't Shit
•One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces

My first solo show (minus the apple store chicago show). FANTASTIC. He got sidetracked explaining a relatively new crowd singing involvement in Bastard by playing a combination of Freebird/Sweet Home Alabama that turned into "Rock this Bitch in Atlanta in the Lydian scale." Anyway, the the crowd singing on Bastard worked out awesomely, and he said this is only 3.5 time it's worked out of 15 times.

Also, he played the two Hornby songs he's been playing, said the album was COMPLETELY finished, and he was happy because he's "free." One, because the album's done, two because he is record labeless. He said he wants it to be out in September. So hopefully a September 2010 release!

He told several Atlanta related stories, one about a venue they played when they first started out and had to move the piano in themselves onto the stage, and the venue manager told them they couldn't play because the piano made a buzzing sound, and they were professionals there. Ben had taken off work and driven all the way down, and the guy asked him if he would ever record a record that way. Then ran and grabbed Ben Folds Five and proved that they did in fact record a record that way... So the guy let them play anyway haha

Overall, great concert, and I finally got to hear Sentimental Guy! Also, the solo Free Coffee is fantastic of you haven't heard him play it that way.

My ninth overall! Woo!
