News / Miami concert tonight CANCELLED
« on: November 12, 2017, 01:34:50 PM »

Dear Patron:

Unfortunately, tonight’s show, The Paper Airplane Request Tour featuring Ben Folds, at the Olympia Theater in Miami has been cancelled. Refunds are available at point of purchase.

A Note From Ben Folds:

It pains me to do this, but I have to cancel tonight's show. During this most recent tour run I picked up some kind of virus and it's knocked me flat on my ass. My doctor has ordered immediate bed rest.  This is the first time I've ever had a show cancelled because I got sick. But I have no choice.  I'll be back in Miami and promise to make it up to you all.

Ticket holders for the Sunday November 12, 2017 will receive a FULL Refund.  If you purchased your tickets through the Olympia Theater Box Office with a credit card, that card has been issued a refund.  Please allow 5-7 business days for the transaction to reflect on your bank card statement.   If you have questions or need further information; send your inquiry to or call our office on Monday at 305.374.2444.

Once again the November 12, 2017 performance of Ben Folds: Paper Airplane Request Tour has been cancelled, ticket holders will recieve a full refund.

I guess Ben never heard of POSTPONING a show, rather than flat out cancelling.

He usually avoids South Florida like the plague in the first place.   Other than his piano concerto thing in Miami 2015, he hasn't been here since April 2009 in Boca Raton.   And before that, not since 1997!  (with the exception of a couple of short opening act sets (for Tori Amos, John Mayer, etc.)    Anyway, this sucks!

Songs played  (in chronological album order):

Alice Childress

One Angry Dwarf

Annie Waits
Zak & Sara
Still Fighting It
Rocking The Suburbs

Sentimental Guy
Bitches Ain't Shit

Dr. Yang  (real)
Dr. Yang  (fake)
Free Coffee (real)
Bitch Went Nuts (fake)
Brainwascht  (real)
Kylie From Connecticut

Show Us Your Tits  (improv)
Free Man Suck  (improv)

Sorry, I don't remember the real order.

Overall, good show.

He played for about 2 hours and twenty minutes.   Which was more than i was expecting.    I think Ben lost track of time.   Cause near the end, someone came on stage and signaled to Ben that he could only play for 10 more minutes.   He never had a chance to do an encore.   But that's okay.

Opening act, Jukebox The Ghost were surprisingly good.   I will probably get their album.

The show was far from sold out.  (I don't think it was promoted at all... never even saw a single blurb in the local newspapers or anything.)

It was also Ben's first full length concert in South Florida, since 1997!   I guess now I can stop bitching!

(His only South Florida gigs since then:  short set as an opening act for Tori Amos, and again for John Mayer... plus a brief festival set at Langerado in the Everglades last year.)

I was originally also supposed to go to the Orlando show the night before, but had a bit of a last minute family emergency, and had to skip that one.   Of course, I had already entered and won a meet & greet for Orlando.   Luckily, when Ben's tour manager emailed me instructions for the Orlando M&G, I told her I can't go, but is there any way you can do something for me in Boca?     Which she did.   So I got to meet Ben after the show.    I thought that was very nice.

That's about it.

So think about your masterpiece
Watch the Rockford Files
And call to see if Paul can score some weed.

Everyday she wears the same thing
I think she smokes pot
She's everything I want, She's everything I'm not
Oh. I...
Have you got nothing to say

Took some front row center tickets today for the Boca Raton, FL show.  I am most happy.

The weird thing is, there was no announcement whatsoever about the Boca Raton presale from the fanclub...

I just happened to check the ticketing link again for Orlando, when I saw that the Boca show was going onsale at 3pm...

So the fanclub e-mail says Ben is playing Hard Rock Live in Orlando, but the presale website says House of Blues...confused.

Yeah, it was a screwup by ArtistArena... the company that does Ben's fanclub ticketing.

It IS Hard Rock Live... not House Of Blues.

Meanwhile, I just want to say hooray for Ben, for FINALLY giving Florida some much needed love.

Ben has avoided Florida like the plague for over a decade.

With the exception of 1 small club show in Gainesville 2002, Ben has not performed a FULL HEADLINING SHOW anywhere in Florida since 1997, on the Whatever and Ever Amen Tour!

His other Florida appearances have been short sets, as just an opening act  (for Tori Amos 2003), (for John Mayer 2007), and a short set at the Langerado festival in the Everglades 2008.

It's made me crazy, living here in South Florida... as every time Ben tours, I cross my fingers and hope for a Florida show, to only get passed over again, and again, and again, and again....

I'm definitely going to Boca Raton and Orlando....   (Possibly Tampa too, but that's up in the air.)

According to the .ORG:

All of TUBORM, Jackson Cannery, Julianne, Where's Summer B.?, Battle of Who Could Care Less, Selfless, Eddie Walker, (in some order) closing with SFTD.

There you have it.

(Update:  Apparently Ben's dad came onstage for Your Most Valuable Posession, and read from a transcript.)

I went to Langerado yesterday.

Ben played for an hour.   I don't remember the exact running order, but the songs he played were:

One Angry Dwarf

Annie Waits
Zak and Sara
Not The Same
Rockin The Suburbs

Bitches Aint Shit
Errant Dog
The Bitch Went Nuts
Free Coffee

So, there you have it.  A rather typical setlist.   But I was surprised to hear 4 new songs in an hour set.    At least he played great.   A much better one hour set than the last one he played in South Florida (opening for John Mayer in Palm Beach).   I wish he'd eventually return to the area, and play a regular headlining show.   He hasn't played a regular show in South Florida, since 1997.  Seriously.
