News / Re: Retrospective: Best Imitation of Myself 1995-2011

I got my copy today in the mail, 2nd disk had scuffs and blemishes on it. I was kinda bummed & mad, emailed the online store feedback thing (but with all emotion removed), and they are re-sending me the entire 3 disk set. So I approve of the handling of my issue.

Disk one and three are amazing, I guess I will have to wait another week to hear the lossless goodness of disk 2. I love the Demos, even the ones I heard on WUWTL before. Stumbling Home Winter Blues makes me uber excited for the guys to write and perform stuff together again.

Bone marrow registry is an awesome thing to do. I hope the love for Folds music is transfered as well, or even better, maybe you are helping someone who is already a fan :D

I am forever grateful for the donor who was matched with one of my friends, allowing her an extension of her life. If you want to read an inspirational, true, and amazing memoir of my friend, check it

Yes, they recorded Tell Me What I Did for sure.

Not to be a troll, but wrong unless you were referring to the 2011 recording, that of which we aren't asking about, since that is not 2000 era Mitch Easter Session

Quote from: Ben Folds on Twitter in response to Justin & Allison
BF5 never recorded "Tell Me" or "Morgan"... Just didn't want you to think we'd recorded those in 1999/2000 and held them back

I don't know how to explain the disappearance of PFofJ site and how this Sony connection relates with NonSuch...and I know zilch about the music business...just throwin it out there.

What do you mean? They took away my Lifeprint insurance? haha. Big label music industry makes my head hurt, and I'm sure even the people who run them don't know how they run....with that said, I understand indie-music business since I'm a fulltime & perpetual intern for such, haha

Or Ben doesn't remember that one time he played song-x or song-y at venue-z.  :P

Tell me what I did was only performed once live according to one of the Folds interviews & in that video he said they never recorded it before. Also Carrying Cathy was around the Messner area. Good reference site

Tron, with the Mitch Easter Sessions, possible insight

For Sure:
Amelia Bright
Itís All Right With God
Prince Charming

Maybe, but I could be wrong (due to they were written around the time),
Honey Don't (NOTE: on the 55 track it says alt take, so maybe the original was a Mitch Easter Session)

for sure not:
Break Up at Food Court (written durring BFF era, but never performed by them)
Morgan Davis
Tell me what I did

I just edited the track order to make them chronological.  Took some time, but it made for a more meaningful listening experience.
Please share if you are willing to save me some time this weekend!  ;D

1. Studio B-Sides That are not already present on WEAEA special edition, Supersunnyspeedgraphic, or Stems & Seeds
2. Unreleased Studio Sessions
3. Unreleased Studio Alternative takes of songs
3. Live B-sides/singles tracks
4. Best of unreleased Live tracks

All clumps of songs will be in either chronological order of original recording or recording era if studio sessions (rts b-sides tracks could be in an order that makes sense with flow, but don't have to be in order of how they were recorded released)

Does that make sense?

I wish Ben Folds, Sony, & whomever else involved in these releases would take a cue from Valve Software. Valve makes games like Half-Life & Portal & have a digital distribution engine called steam...ANYWHO, one thing that Valve does which is awesome, is every game they have made in house they sell online individually OR you can buy ALL of their games in one giant super awesome package for $99 and it saves you like $300+ if you were going to buy all the stuff together in their uber bundle. I wish the Ben Folds entire discography would be released like that (and IN LOSSLESS). I'm talking ALL Full Albums, Live Tracks on singles, B-Sides, and even Radio Edits. and I fell $99 would be a fair price, especially since I've spent like $20+ for some singles to just get the higher quality version of a track. yes I do love physical releases of music, since I have something to hold & display, but I also want to have a complete collection to listen to, and not so much to look at.

It worries me that she mentions Ben's "rabid" fanbase.

They didn't want to reference you and the rest of us by name, because if you acknowledge us, it gives us all the power, haha  :D

Sounds like the co-host had no idea who he was so just blurted out whatever the research intern managed to Google.

Truth. I was waiting for something like the following "And I read here you have a brother? How did that play into your writing? Oh and I found online you have a twitter account. What exactly is twitter?"

I wish Ben did call them out on the Pirate Joke, but the look on his face and the head shake was awesome

It's probably a mixute of you and your computer. I got chrome and it looks ok, but the font is kind of light so I guess if you have a monitor different than mine (or the one it was designed on) I can understand the frustration.

Besides that I like how the site is more organized and up to date. I remember after WTN came out it was rarely updated for awhile, but the news section has stuff posted in the past three days, so lets hope it keeps up like this, especially when it comes time to tour dates, rather than us hunting them down all over the place and THEN them being posted on the .com, but we all know the burbs are the better location for the important news

Also. I can't seem to download the free ep. Wtf. I have my pre-order email there's no "pin code" that it keeps asking me for. sunofa...

It should be in the package itself. I'm searching the net to see which site I read that on...

EDIT: didn't find a location saying it will be in the box, but that's what im guessing or maybe a pin will be emailed when it is shipped

I feel with this release and even the 3CD set, all of these b-sides and "bonus tracks" are being fragmented in a sense. I feel some of these songs will be harder and harder to legally acquire and in lossless too as times ticks on.

I'm going to leave the 3CD set out of this argument (for the most part) since it is kinda organized (best of, live, and rare tracks).

But I really wish that there was a formal & organized "final" release of the "other tracks" sort of in the supersunnyspeedgraphic (though the tracks on it were re-mastered and not the same as the eps, plus missing a few tracks) or even Whatever and Ever Amen special edition sense. CD stores are something of the past and many of us were too young to track down all the eps & singles from the 90s, plus there are too many "editions" with other tracks. I felt kinda jaded at the WTN japanese release since they got the bonus tracks in lossless. Yes we were leaked them before WTN came out, but quality does matter, especially since people are (still) willing to BUY the tracks or physical album, but shelling out extra $ for an import isn't fair to both the buyer and artist since some middle man overseas is making the extra money on sending it to people in other countries. Yes Stems and Seeds was one of the best things I think any artist could have done, but it was a little too late for my friends who bought the import version for the extra tracks. Sorry if i sound like a brat & ungrateful, I just wish things were more organized with releases. I hate being OCD every once in a while and spending an entire weekend re-organizing my itunes.

Again, I am happy we have a chance to listen and buy these tracks. Maybe im just OCD & shouldn't care so much

...wasn't there a crazy website someone made with the COMPLETE COMPLETE discography a few years back, listing all singles and alternative releases of stuff? If anyone has a link please share

....also New York Times, where did that track go, I really thought by now we'd see a legit release, even instrumentally

It does feel phoned in, but I do like the quality of the tracks (BUT WHY DIDN'T THEY HAVE A LOSSLESS OPTION!?). I wish the songs were arranged in some means besides alphabetically. Do them chronologically or clumping demos, b-sides, and live songs. I also have to gripe over how the "artist" tags on half of the Ben Folds Five tracks didn't have the "Five" on them, though the website/store credited them correctly and that I also wish the tracks were labled with their "demo" or "live @ such and such" rather than JUST the song name...i'm going to be correcting stuff for the next hour or so. WUWTL did have like 80% of these tracks already, Ben should have just leaked the rest of them there instead. I'm not bitter, though my post sounds that way, I'm just bummed a bit.

also, some of these tracks that were live sounded more like audience bootlegs rather than something from the mixer ie: The Bens - Brick
