I forget how 98 is set up but to check if your audio drivers are installed it's start menu>control panel>system>hardware>device manager. Scroll down to the icons that have speakers on them (or something that says audio or sound), dbl-click & see if something might say "This device is working properly" or maybe  "not present" or "not enabled", etc... These are just some basic toubleshooting steps. Keep trying & you may get to the bottom of your problem.

Also forgot: contol panel>sounds & audio devices>"audio" tab & see what your default device is set for audio playback.

If you uninstalled hardware, that means you physically removed something. You likely uninstalled drivers or audio software that came with the computer. If it's a Dell or something like that then there might be some disc(s) that came with it that will have the drivers you are looking for.

Also try Windows Update, it might see that you have audio hardware installed but no software.
Many of these mp3 players are different so it could be that 98 is giving it trouble with the install, but you should see if it's compatible to work with 98 in the first place. I don't see why not but you never know.

One more thing, when setting up any device that uses USB (mp3 player/printer/webcam/etc), it really helps to install the software first & then restart before you plug your device in anywhere.

FYI, after the show we talked to Joe & he held up his fingers in a "pinch" shape & said they were that close to cancelling due to the rain.
