Any other kids on here going to the Toronto show?

yes.  the only state he is allowed to play on those days is louisiana.  you hear me, ben?!
hmm... i'm starting to wonder if i should just join the bffc now so that i can get in on presales...  then again, he never sells out down here and almost every venue is general admission.  hmm...

Are there going to be more new dates, or are these just a few toss-offs?  I.e., should I hope for a Kansas/Mizzou date?

I was wondering the exact same thing...
A Nevada, Arizona, or California date would be fantastic.

When talking to Ben in October he said Spring for his next US tour.... so I expect this tour to flush out more.

Could be wrong however.

I told him personally in October that if he came to Ann Arbor this spring it would basically make my life.  So I hope he listened.

A long shot, I know.  But one can hope?

my GF got me tickets to the columbus show for christmas, which is nice because I didn't even know it existed.

Almost a year to the date of our first solo ben show at Purdue, which was quite memorable, I expect nothing less from this one.   :)

More tour dates announced:

2/19 Cincinnati, OH
2/21 Baltimore, MD
2/22 Knoxville, TN
2/23 Asheville, NC

Presales start tomorrow at 3PM local venue time according to the fan club.

I think this means, since we're already travelling to Columbus, OH for the 2/21 show, we'll be heading to Knoxville, TN for the 2/22 show, too. Good times. Long drive, but good times.

Word on the street is that BEN IS COMING TO ANN ARBOR!
At least, I'm choosing to believe the two people who informed me individually.  Apparently they heard early because they volunteer at the venue he'll be playing at?

OH I HOPE I HOPE I HOPE!  Plus there's a chance I'd get to usher for Ben which would mean FREE ADMISSION, i.e., more dollaz to buy another concert tee.  I feel like I really need to own the fashionable frown one.

I'm crossing my fingers that my sources are correct...

I live approximately 3 min. from the Valarium.  And my friend is a bouncer there.  This is a dream come true.  I don't know what I'll do without having a 3-5 hour drive after the show like usual.

I wish that Tuscaloosa's music scene didn't suck so bad.  The only people we ever get here is Daughtry (ugggggh), the ying yang twins (ugggggggggggh), ryan adams (ugggggggggggggggghhhhhhhh).... and whatever crappy pop country star that used to be popular but it on a  downhill trend is available.   Thanks, Alabama.

So we're thinking of leaving KC on Friday 2/20 for Columbus, OH to catch that show on Saturday. Then from Columbus it's a 5 hour drive to Knoxville to see Sunday's show, then a 1.5 hour drive to Asheville to see the Monday show, then a 13 hour drive back to KC in time to return to work on Wednesday.

That's true.  But I chose it for the football.  The music part came later  :)  Birmingham actually isn't too bad for music, I'm seeing kweller there in March, and it's only 45 min away.  Not to mention both Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans are all within reasonable driving distance (all three places I have or will drive to for concerts).

i live an hour from new orleans, which gets great music occasionally.  we've hit a bit of a dry spell.  no upcoming concerts for months, it's looking like.   :-\  i guess that's ok.  i should be saving money anyway.
houston's 4 hours away.  they get most of the major acts, but i hate texASS, so you have to be a favorite artist to get me to make that trip.

I'm thinking about investigating the MN show instead of the Chicago show, cause when I went to buy tickets the DAY they went on sale, it was all the way to row N. :( And y'all know how I feel about front row seats. Heh.

That and decided it was much smarter to stick around here and not push my luck (with the weather) and attend the Kweller gig as planned on the 18th of Feb. waiting for Mr Folds to announce dates in the upper-midwest-that's-also-CST. :P

Here's more evidence to support the whole "Ben's coming to Ann Arbor in February" theory!
Unfortunately I have tried my hardest to figure out a way to procure tickets but the event is not listed on ticketmaster or on Ben's website...

Do any of y'all know if that means anything?  I'm not at all familiar with ticketmaster so I'm not sure whether the concert not being listed means anything or what.
GAH I'M TRYING NOT TO GET MY HOPES UP BUT IT'S NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE

Plus Andrew Bird is coming here in April... Jeff Tweedy of Wilco is coming in January... the only thing that would complete my year other than Ben was if Radiohead decided to make a quick stop in A2.  Oh well, hope never hurt anybody?

Near every time an alternate site has a gig listed it eventually gets announced by Folds CO. Which makes me hope that there are more shows that they'll announce another five together of.

I know, but still if he's been gettng paid that since songs for silverman he's been getting paid prett well for just three members of a band. Rhinna goes fr 150k, which is bullshit, almost a quarter of a million dollars for her show, godd*mn that's stupid.

Actually, Ben's relatively f*cking cheap. Did you see that Beck's 100k? And Jon Stewart can go for 150k? (Jesus f*cking Christ, what school has that kind of money to drop on a comedian? He doesn't even have high tech stuff.)
I know, but still if he's been gettng paid that since songs for silverman he's been getting paid prett well for just three members of a band. Rhinna goes fr 150k, which is bullshit, almost a quarter of a million dollars for her show, godd*mn that's stupid.
40-45k is actually very, erm, on the almost cheap side.
The Fray - before they were GIGANTIC went for 35k, when people didn't know who they were.

I just bought my tickets to the Feb. 18th Ann Arbor show...
Having Ben in Ann Arbor is going to make my entire winter. Seriously.

PS I asked Ben in October to come to Ann Arbor and my sister is CONVINCED that my request is the reason he came here.  Her rationalization: Ann Arbor is kind of out of the way, and it was announced relatively late.  I told her that's silly-- don't they plan these things months in advance? And he wouldn't really plan a tour stop based on the request of one person?
What are y'all experienced folks' thoughts?  I don't think it's possible that I deserve even an ounce of credit for this show.
Although, he did hear me shouting "I CAME ALL THE WAY FROM MICHIGAN FOR YOU" from the audience and he brought it up when he did my autographs... wait, am I just getting my hopes up or WHAT? :)

not to bust your bubble - but it's unlikely. cause ben doesn't book his schedule. just goes where he's told. ann arbor has always been a good market for ben. they hit it (that theatre even) every two years, minimum it seems.

that being said - i'm sure they checked my school scedule so i could goo to gigs. ;) :P jk

LSU needs to book Ben three times then. :P

Whoever Miniature Tiger is is the opener, came across myspace just now. Or hours ago, but I just checked. :P

I love this poster art. Again. Primal Smirk's art was great too. I love how they used that same wall as the color overlay for this. WHO's the new graphic artist? And why didn't they do s&s's cover. :P

MORE importantly - Stems and Seeds available that's either Feb 13, 16 or 18. Maybe 19.
Is it going to be in stores? I didn't think so.
BUT, about a month from now. SWEET SHITTTTSSSS.

i love bringing new people into the world of folds via concerts.  it's fantastic to watch them react.  however, it is slightly annoying when ben starts playing a song that hasn't been played in ages and the person has no idea that it's something special.
(i.e. the houston show with my friend kevin.  ben played jane, jackson cannery, girl, and alice childress.  kevin had no idea... where as allison was freaking out on the phone)
it's more fun when you're with fellow fans so that you can look at each other and go, "AHHHHHHHHHH NO WAY!!!!  AHHHHHHH" and proceed to act a fool. (i.e. the first time brooke, allison, and i heard Fair played live)

Aww. Loves. Good times. Both of them.

So, I erm, got the Miniature Tigers album. And I put it in and the first track - the one who's title I recognized "Cannibal Queen" I suddenly remembered listening to it on LoC and loving it then and then you know forgot the band's name by the time I got home. Now I'm even more jealous  - a great opener for a tour.

Now, next question, will they follow the trend and end up bigger than Ben himself after opening?

What? Who cares. Also, Ben Fold's a landmark as far as music in the 90's (he was a modern/alt rock staple from 97 - 99) and in the 2000's goes (one of the first artists to embrace itunes and digital downloads), few have those feathers in their caps.

What past openers are you referencing?

Jeez.

Philly tickets anyone? I've got a flight booked. Holler.

It was just a question. And a lighthearted one at that. That I wasn't expecting answer to, rhetorical. But while we're discussing album sales;
FACT: The Fray's album "How to Save" a Life went double platinum
FACT: Train's album "Train" went platinum. Train's album "Drops of Jupiter" went double platinum. Train's album "My Private Nation" went platinum.
FACT: Ben Folds Five's "Whatever and Ever, Amen" went platinum (after a year on the market). (http://www.riaa.com/goldandplatinumdata.php?table=SEARCH)
FACT: Both bands (The Fray and Train) have had more *commercial* success than Ben Folds (Five).
FACT: Both Train and The Fray (at least used to) play much larger venues and sell out, then Ben's ever been booked in except as an opener himself.
FACT: Both the Folds/Mayer tour and The Fray came through the same venue a few days apart in the summer of 2007. I know this. Cause I worked both gigs.
FACT: Ben Folds (Five) isn't even a one-hit wonder. Never has had a top 10 hit. (Brick peaked at 19 On the US Billboard Air Play charts)

It's not a criticism - it just was supposed to be a ha-ha question.

I don't care. I was just saying. Just a thought.

We're planning on taking a week off of work travelling to the following shows:

Knoxville, TN
Asheville, NC
Durham, NC
Charleston, SC
Atlanta, GA

We bought tickets to the Columbus, OH show, but have decided to forgo that gig. Anyone want to buy two tickets to the Columbus show? :)

I'm really hoping Ben makes it out here for a tour this year.  I hoped that last year too but he can't keep avoiding me forever!  Although I am seeing Ben Lee in August with WASO.  Folds could do a double bill!  Or even better The Bens with WASO!  Now I really am letting my imagination get away with me...

We have officially purchased tickets and hotel rooms for what we are dubbing Benventure 8: Southern Comfort. We're hitting Knoxville, Asheville, Durham, Charleston and Atlanta. We get to stay near the Biltmore estate in Asheville and in a renovated 19th century cotton warehouse in Charleston. Frank is looking forward to real sweet tea almost as much as the shows. I am dying for shrimp and grits.

Atlanta will be our 20th show. I'm thinking of making a song request via sign, since it worked well for Justin in KC for 50. I figure we should request something we know he can do (like Best Imitation, or Last Polka), rather than something I really want to hear live (like Fired, or Missing the War). Any suggestions?

As a side note, we traded in the Prius last week for a hybrid Camry. Road trips have just gotten 100% more comfortable.

Is there not a decent chance of that appearing on the setlists now anyway? Seemed to be kind of standard when i saw him last year.  Get Tom and Mary busted out again, was great hearing that in Sheffield. Or Jackson Cannery. Julianne, Uncle Walter, Stevens Last Night in town....shit theres too many.

see here's the thing, most of those songs ben will play by himself in a solo fashion, which is great and cool, but if i hear selfless or last polka i want the full band blasting through that song at 200 beats per second.

I see where your coming from, and yes it probably would be cooler to see it with band.  But in a lot of cases, as a biased pianist, generally thats what intrigues me about his style.  How one piano can strike with as much excitement as a full band.  Personally, Last Polka for me, I prefer solo, just because the power out of the piano rivals that of the full band, and no offence to Sam or Jared or anyone else he's played with, who I do f*ckin love btw, but I like to hear the subtle differences that are highlighted by a solo version of a song.
But like I said, its just an opinion of someone who is a piano player and influenced heavily by Ben.  Im sure there's bass players and drummers and melodica players who would feel the same about their instrument.

I am, by no means, a piano player. And I agree the solo version of Last Polka just seems more effective. Or more powerful. But, something like Battle, imo, has to be a full band song.

Yeah totally, there is definitely some that rely heavily on the other instruments.  Was just watchin Ben play the solo version of Gone, and it was such a different song, and i mean that in a negative way.

Maybe we should make a sign. Though, the Rave surely won't let us bring that shit in.
Are you taking the day off of work, or are you just gonna join up with us again this time?
They're coming all the way from Des Moines the night before. HELL.... that's gotta be a long drive... (mapquesting)  Oh, if you take I-80 it's not that bad. Only 6 hours. ONLY. Last time they played the rave I followed the bus off the highway. It was weird. And Jesus/Ryan (from the .org) was already there. FAIL, on my part. That was in my early days. The Rave was show number 6. :'( Oh the days.
OH GOD. MAYBE HE WILL PLAY US SOME GOOD SHIT (not that there's bad shit..... okay there are a few songs that are overplayed). I just remembered what we got last Rave show; Protection, Missing the War, Silver Street, Boxing.......... oh god............... First night I saw Kate  - but that's been around every show (nearly) since.

I vote for video as well. I remember reading Ben saying he doesn't play it anymore because it's "too wordy" or something like that, meaning he'll f*ck it up alot, but I wouldn't care. Love that song.
Maybe we should make a sign. Though, the Rave surely won't let us bring that shit in.
Are you taking the day off of work, or are you just gonna join up with us again this time?

Yeah, it was a screwup by ArtistArena... the company that does Ben's fanclub ticketing.

It IS Hard Rock Live... not House Of Blues.

Meanwhile, I just want to say hooray for Ben, for FINALLY giving Florida some much needed love.

Ben has avoided Florida like the plague for over a decade.

With the exception of 1 small club show in Gainesville 2002, Ben has not performed a FULL HEADLINING SHOW anywhere in Florida since 1997, on the Whatever and Ever Amen Tour!

His other Florida appearances have been short sets, as just an opening act  (for Tori Amos 2003), (for John Mayer 2007), and a short set at the Langerado festival in the Everglades 2008.

It's made me crazy, living here in South Florida... as every time Ben tours, I cross my fingers and hope for a Florida show, to only get passed over again, and again, and again, and again....

I'm definitely going to Boca Raton and Orlando....   (Possibly Tampa too, but that's up in the air.)

rumors of a 3/22 show in Ohio somewhere.

I hope there will be a presale for nashville... that doesn't LOOK like a GA place... which means I need to buy my tickets early.
i just hope that i have the money for that show and after last night i almost never want to go to a seated show again. standing up rocking out to him against a rail only five feet away from the guys was one of the greatest experiences i have ever had.

actually the place has a seating chart so yea it's pretty much confirmed that it's seating. shit.

There is a presale for Nashville.  Starts tomorrow at 3:00 CST.  I gotta sucker some people into wanting to go and driving up there with me by 3 tomorrow.

Which presale are you talking about? I thought the only one was on Thursday at 10.00 through the radio station lightening 100...

Since the Asheville show doesn't have its own thread and I don't have the setlist, I decided not to start one for this silly question...

At the Asheville show Ben said that Zak and Sara was inspired by a short story (or a collection of short stories by some author).  I couldn't quite make out what he said.

Does anyone know?

Took some front row center tickets today for the Boca Raton, FL show.  I am most happy.

The weird thing is, there was no announcement whatsoever about the Boca Raton presale from the fanclub...

I just happened to check the ticketing link again for Orlando, when I saw that the Boca show was going onsale at 3pm...

Well I wouldn't say worst in the house, it could definitely be worse I think.  But based off of the Ryman's seating chart I am way right of the stage and may have an obstructed view.  I'm usually very satisfied with the fan club pre-sale hook-up, this one was just not quite as sweet.

well personally for me i hate far seats. i'll take a seat in the back and be in the middle of those sections than rather the extreme far right or left of the building near the front. obstructed views suck.

Here's a tip for all you fans out there - if, when you are on your way back from a 5-day road trip and are trying to find the highway after taking a Starbucks detour that led you way out of the way, you realize you still need to buy tickets to the next show in Omaha, DO NOT attempt to purchase the tickets using your iPhone. If you do, a week later you will receive an e-mail informing you that your tickets for the Des Moines show have been printed and are on the way to your house.

On an unrelated note, does anyone need a pair of tickets to the Des Moines show on 3/18? :) They're for sale at face value.

Kansas City!  5/30?  Probably City Market since that's a Saturday night.  It's a great outdoor venue, but the noise laws force them to stop playing at 11:00.  Of course, if he started on-time at 8:00 or 8:30, instead of 9:00 or 9:30, it wouldn't matter.

Who has been to a show at the Crossroads in KC?  What's the seating chart like and is the VIP (almost $80/ticket) worth it?

I've never been to a show there, but we just bought the VIP tickets this afternoon (show 22, most likely). The VIP tickets are described thusly:

Quote
Next to venue parking, private VIP only entrance, front row viewing, VIP only bar, VIP only restrooms, waitress service, complimentary beverage (non-alcoholic) and snack service.

VIP Tickets get you access to Exclusive Viewing Areas, Exclusive Bar with Top Shelf Liquor, c*cktail Service, Beverage and Snack Service, Access to Private Restrooms and Massage Service at select shows.

The lines in these areas will be next to nothing since VIP access is very limited! VIP Tickets are not available for every show, so check the show details during the purchase process.

We pretty much stopped reading and made our purchase after reading "front row viewing" - I'd rather pay a premium for front row than stand outside for hours, which is what we did for too many shows last month.

Can't wait!

If ben is really playing lollapalooza (which the lolla board apparently saw it on his tour listing on the .com a couple nights ago), and he of course, apparently has said so

it means he's not playing anywhere in a 250 mile radius of chicago 60 days before or 30 days after august 7-9
http://www3.timeoutny.com/chicago/blog/out-and-about/2008/07/does-lollapalooza-make-a-loser-out-of-chicago/
it's part of the lolla clause.
there could always, of course, be a post-lolla show (oh god, ben folds at the metro? ben folds at schuba's? i might die)

We're still in Way to Normal touring, we haven't hit the in between record lull for the rest of the country yet. Which is when he kicks into just the areas he'll likely sell out. IE: The Midwest.

I'll see you there, Lynn! I got my VIP tix on the 7th and can't wait for another hometown show!

Oh hey, I'm not dead.

Sweet - long time, no see - can't wait! Are you going to Omaha? We're hoping to get to Omaha somewhere around 2:30.
Yes, he is.

As he's likely to crawl back into his cave again.

BFFC Announced
4/26/09 - Syracuse University Carrier Dome (Syracuse, NY)

Now THIS might work. If it's Gen. Admission, I'll def. make an actual effort to go to this one.

What do you think the chances are of Ben coming down to the San Diego/Los Angeles area sometime around when he's in Oakland?

We're hoping he announces some more shows out that way around that time, too - we haven't done a road trip west of Missouri yet, and the drive from KC to California would be so pretty...

Yes, I know. We're sort of insane.

I was just in Atlantic City and saw three promos, one an awesome video on one of the big billboard screens, for the show at House of Blues.  I'm sure it's been mentioned but I didn't know Hotel Lights would be opening! Thought I would express my enthusiasm as I have never Darren in action.  Maybe I'll get to play some blackjack with Ben.

ok, ok i've pretty much given up on the ryman doing that, because i'd be going by myself all the way out to a major city :( and i hate driving in them.

so my dad lives in arkansas and that's three hours away from fayetteville and the music pavillion so i'm going to talk to him tomorrow and see if he'll spot me money for a ticket and i can drive out and spend the week with him and get to take him to see ben. so he can share in some of the madness and share something that we've never done before.

i think that'd be a pretty badass trip to take, we've never really done anything like this before so it'd be some cool father son bonding time. i'm going to talk to him about it sometime today and try and set everything up. here's to hoping i get the f*cking M&G!

Frack, this ruins my "KC as Show 60" plan. Guess it'll have to be 61... Unless it sells out. K-State is a little more like UMKC than KU though, so I'm betting the fanbase there isn't as rabid, unlike Lawrence which was a staple on Ben Folds Five tours for years.

I think Sabs and I may hit this show up. Who else is going to try? Allison - how are you doing with numbers? Where do we sit with our secret evil plan?

Well I have yet to figure out if I can get off of work for any of the upcoming dates. The only one I have scheduled is whichever day Ben's playing lolla cause I haz 60 dollar 3-day pass. And while I'd love to go out east to see Darren open for Ben, I dunno if that's anywhere near the cards for me. It's more likely to get those last May shows with you.

Thanks for the info, Lynn!  Not knowing would have sucked with seats being assigned.  I just got tickets for Justin, a friend of Justin's, and me.  We got first row, seats 3-5, in section F2.  I can't really tell what F2 will mean in relation to how the stage will be arranged based on the seating chart.  I figured I'd be safer just getting them asap than messing around trying to get positioned exactly between the drums and piano, etc.  We'll see you there!  I guess waiting in line won't be an issue.

This sucks.  He's not going to be anywhere close to me that's possible to drive to.  By this time last year I had already seen him twice.  And had potential for one more.  I've seen him once this year with no possibilities on the horizon.
if you had man'd up and drove to atlanta you would've seen him twice this year. :P

So, here's a thought.  If Ben is playing Sydney on Aug 31 (not the 29th as has been bandied about) then he is free to make a surprise guest appearance with Ben Lee and WASO on Aug 28 and 29 in Perth.

That. Would. Be. Fantastic.  Alsoveryunlikely...

No way! Folds and Lee are gonna play in Sydney!
FUN FACT: My dads cousin (Bill) played french horn in the WASO with Ben. And he's on the dvd! lucky bastard...

I'm not greedy...I'll happily send Lee over once he and Folds are done over here.

ADDITIONAL FUN FACT:  I know a few of the WASO folk too.  And I'm on the DVD as well, in one of the crowd shots :-P

According to Ben Folds Japanese official site, the next Japan tour will be...

July 19, 20(Nano-Mugen Festival, Yokohama Arena)
--3-piece band (Ben / Jared / Sam)

July 21(Liquid Room, Tokyo)
--Piano Solo \m/

Wow. I don't know the reason why Jared and Sam won't play with Ben at Liquid Room :o

I just bought two tickets for Ashton and I to see ben with the Dallas symphony orchestra.
Excited about going. Not so excited that the tickets were $89 a piece. :-(

interesting, indeed.  i'm hoping to get him to a solo gig sometime soon.  he needs to see the man in a "normal" setting.

"Ben is playing a show in Columbus, OH on his summer tour"

f*cking liar, the show is in October! That is not summer- it's fall! I could go if it was in the summer, while I'm in f*cking Ohio, but in the fall I'm back in Boston. Rude. It's three days from November! Summer, my ass.

Yeah... I'm really confused-- is this with an orchestra, or just him?  (Not that it would be a problem.)  Does Columbus HAVE an orchestra?  I just bought tickets to see him in Washington DC because i wanted to see him play w/an orchestra... but still happy to see both shows but I live 2 hours from Columbus... yeesh.

they said the same thing about the dallas show.  i hardly think september 30 qualifies as summer.
