BENVIVOR IV - THE FINAL

OK, as you may have gathered from above, the final round of BVIV was played last night via instant messenger, and JRKEYBOARD, aka Don, won through in a tense battle to be crowned the new Benvivor King!

There was a five minute time out on each question to allow only minimal research.  The questions are, therefore, slightly easier than the other rounds - how many could you have got?!  The questions, answers and scores were as follows.

Question 1:

Who said the infamous "Ben Folds is a f*cking assh*le" line at the end of Evaporated?

Don: Leo Overtoom

Don 1 - 0 Barb

Question 2:

What is Evaporated about, according to Ben, in three words or less?

Barb: "It's about loss"

Don 1 - 1 Barb

Question 3:

When moving the piano around between gigs, who did the band once drop it on?

Don: Chuck Folds

Don 2 - 1 Barb

Question 4:

Who co-produced Super D with Ben (except 'Them The Got')?

Barb: John Mark Painter

Don 2 - 2 Barb.

Question 5

Sticking with Super D, and nice and easy, which band did Ben cover (i.e. not Ray Charles?)

Don: The Darkness

Don 3 - 2 Barb

Question 6:

In how many BF/F songs is LA mentioned? And name them.

Barb: 2. Don't Change your Plans and Tiny Dancer
Don: I can't think of any more than that

No points to either contestant - missing out Army there ("Oh-oh think I'll write a screen play, oo-oh, think I'll take it to LA").

The answer was 3 - DCYP, Army and Tiny Dancer.

Don 3 - 2 Barb

Question 7

In which song does Ben say there is a homage to Burt Bacharach? (Not Raindrops... )

Barb:Don't Change your plans!

Don 3 - 3 Barb

Question 8:

Ben has covered songs by a particular band who refused a guest appearance on William Shatner's "Has Been" album. Who was it?

Don: Built to Spill
Barb: Wham!

Again no-one got it correct - it was The Flaming Lips

Don 3 - 3 Barb

Question 9:

Name the three original members of Majosha and their instruments.

Don: Ben Folds on bass, Millard Powers on guitar, and Dave Rich on drums

Don 4 - 3 Barb

Question 10:

What animal appears in the "Rockin' the Suburbs" video?

Barb: A Puppy

Don 4 - 4 Barb

After 10 questions, and a tied score, the golden envelope with the sudden death question was produced!

Question 11:

Ben did a guest appearance at a NYC gig of "one of [his] favourite" solo artists, who then returned the favour at a different location. Who was it?

Don: Joe Jackson

Don 5 - 4 Barb

And there we have it - Don stole the competition from Barb at the last gasp - a thrilling final!

CONGRATULATIONS DON!

Thanks

And that's the end of BVIV.  All that is left to do is thank the necessary people.

Most importantly, a big thanks to Andy for hosting the contest, regularly updating the News section, helping me with some of the questions and for being the neutral adjudicator when the going got all too complicated!

Thanks to Don and Barb for a massively exciting final - it had me on the edge so I have no idea what the people taking part must have felt like.

And finally, a big thank you to everyone who has taken part!  Well played one and all.

That's it, I'm outta here to do some work for a change!

Cheers.
