Love it.  I always thought that Narcolepsy was a metaphor for missed opportunities as well so I'm glad I'm not alone here.  Like, he missed these moments in his life not on purpose, not cause he's stupid ("I'm not tired"), it's just who he is ("I just sleep").  Sad actually, but yeah I think you're spot on.

General Board / Who's on your Ben Folds Mixtape?

With the success of the Hamilton Mixtape, it had me wishing for a Ben Folds mixtape.  What artists would you like to hear cover BF songs?

Brick is actually pretty simple, Annie Waits is in the key of C so you can try to figure that one out, Zak and Sara is just simple chords if you have the finger muscles to keep the beat going, Fred jones isn't too bad, the intro to In Between Days is always a blast to play, most of Bastard (minus bridge) is chords, and I think Emaline should come naturally to you (from the Live Album).  Let me know how it goes or if you need any help!

That instrumental you didn't recognize was "You To Thank"    :)

Ok so maybe the sound quality isn't as good as it could be, but if you want a fun record to put on and enjoy, the self-titled is the way to go.  A huge part of record collecting for me is everything that comes with it, besides the fact that it is great music.  Nothing beats buying a new record, reading all the lyrics in the sleeve, looking at all the cover art, placing that needle down for the first time, and listening to an Album.  And as far as all that goes, as a Ben Folds fan, you should have that record.  Imagine yourself back in 1995 putting that record on for the first time and the feeling it would have brought you, or even now just think about Ben, Darren, and Robert putting their heart and soul into every song.  While the "audio" may be sub-par, the quality isn't lacking one bit.

Ben Folds Five (the self titled album) is the way to go.  I own almost every album of Ben's on vinyl, but this may be one of my favorites.  It is a must have.  Also, I agree that So There is phenomenal as an LP and no you cannot buy my yellow Suburbs  :)

It was whatever he was feeling.

Raindrops was the full thing, Eddie Walker was bridge to the end, and the rest were just the first couple of verses and first chorus.  The cool thing was how he would change them up though, adding inversions and insane improvised riffs

General Board / What Song Did You Write in Your Paper Airplane?
« on: October 09, 2016, 01:09:30 PM »
This was a tough decision for me (that's why I made 2)

My request for the Last Polka made it to him and he played it.  I like the song but I really wanted to see it live.  Well worth it.

I also wrote Tiny Dancer because he kills that every time.

But what is your strategy?  As the night was winding down, I realized that some of my all time favorites may not be played because no one threw those up!  Should I write One Angry Dwarf every time?

I'd love to hear what you wrote....

Soundcheck included (in no particular order):

A Sentimental Guy
Eddie Walker
Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head
Jesusland (played about 5x the speed, incredible)
Don't Change Your Plans
There's Always Someone Cooler Than You

The highlight of the night was The Last Polka, my paper airplane request.  I was in row K but somehow he got it.  At first I figured someone else requested it, but when he read my name, I could not believe it.

When he came out, sat down, put his drink on the piano, crossed his legs, and played Phone in a Pool 1 handed, I knew it would be an incredible show.

And I'd agree, Dr. Yang was a treat!  I sang that one as loud as I could.

Mostly yMusic stuff (snore) but also:

1:03:21 The Last Polka
1:06:27 Still Fighting It
1:12:05 One Angry Dwarf

How could you say "snore" to those?  He still put his flare on them and they're so great, especially when he's alone!  Hear how he changed up Phone in a Pool?  So good.

3. Ben Folds Five
4. Rockin' The Suburbs
5. So There
6. Way to Normal
7. Whatever and Ever Amen
