Man I'd lose my shit if I ever heard Sports and Wine and Bad Idea

Good read.  Glad you and yours finally got to hear everything you wanted.  I'm totally with you on Thank You For Breaking My Heart.  It's my least favorite on the album and doesn't really translate well live.  I'd much rather hear Uncle Walter/Summer B/Emaline in its place.  Thankfully I saw them twice before the new album came out so I got to see those three songs (and Mess, Fair).  I'm being picky but I wish they would mix up the setlists a little more than they are and maybe throw in some rarities every show.  What I would do to hear Eddie Walker or Video...

Wow.  Last night was a special night.  So glad I made it out to this show.  I took a bus from DC at 12:30 and was supposed to get into NYC at 5.  I ended up waiting in standstill traffic for 2.5 hours and got into the city at 8PM.  I busted my ass to catch a cab and by some miracle made it to the 8:10 Port Chester train at Grand Central as it was about to leave.  Fast forward to the Port Chester train stop and I sprint out of terminal to the theater and literally run in as they start playing Michael Praytor.  I had already accepted that I was going to miss about 45 minutes of the show so I was amazed I didn't miss a thing.

Anyway, the theater was really nice and the whole front section was GA standing room so I was able to get a pretty good spot in the middle.  The setlist was pretty standard and was actually the exact same as the Philly show two nights earlier.  The only differences, as Terp pointed out, was that Philosophy was listed on the actual setlist but they substituted Narcolepsy instead and Dwarf was not played as the 3rd encore.  I actually asked Ben about it after the show, whether it was a time issue or not, and he just said they felt Underground was a good place to end the show that night.  Understandable.

So after waiting at the Philly show and not getting to meet them, I didn't get my hopes up this show either.  But I waited anyway, along with about 25-30 other people.  Terp, were you there waiting near the bus?  Robert came out after about 45 minutes and I finally got to meet him (!!!)  I'd met Ben and Darren before but I've been waiting YEARS to meet Sledge.  It was great and he was nice enough to sign all my stuff.  I brought my Toxic Popsickle Friends of Zid cassette and the In My Room/Listening to Kim 7" which he thought was pretty cool.  It seemed like he hadn't seen either in years and asked me where I got them.  He signed the 7" as well as my Jackson Cannery 7", S/T, WAEA, and TUBoRM vinyls.  Again, really nice of him to sign all that stuff.

Ben came out shortly after and I asked him if he remembered me from Bonnaroo as the guy with the "Thank You Sir..." sign.  He did, so that was pretty cool.  Like I said above, I asked him about the setlist and we talked about the show for a bit.  He also mentioned they might do a spot on Jimmy Kimmel at some point.  There was so much shit running through my head and I wish I could've asked him a ton more stuff but there were a bunch of people eager to meet him.  He signed my WAEA and TUBoRM vinyls and then I took out the holy grail of my BFF collection.  My Shut Up And Listen To Majosha vinyl and asked him to sign it.  He was pretty taken aback when he saw it and thankfully he signed it.  Holy shit, I was excited out of my mind.  I've wanted to get that signed for ages and now finally, it's done.  I wanted to ask him if he's still tight with any of his old Majosha bandmates but again, too many people.

I talked to one of the crew members and he told me Darren's been dealing with a cold for the past few days and he went straight to bed after the show so I obviously didn't get to see him which was a bummer.  Hope he feels better soon.  Maybe that's why none of them stuck around at the Philly show.  But all in all, incredible night, so glad I made the trip.  So that does it for my BFF shows this tour.  Saw them 5 times in total (Mountain Jam, Bonnaroo, FreeFest, Philly, Port Chester).  Hopefully they hit the east coast again after the international/west coast legs.  I'm thinking at the end of this whole tour they have to do some sort of homecoming gig at Cat's Cradle or something where they pull out all the stops and play some really cool shit.  I'd be there in a heartbeat.  Anyway, here's some pictures:

Yup I was here yesterday.  Quite a bit of new material given the length of the set.  I think they could've fit one more song in if they wanted (they finished about 6 minutes early).  REALLY happy I got to hear Magic.  Had the standard Bitches Ain't Shit/Rock This Bitch of course.  Not a whole lot of banter but that's understandable.  Some pics:

I'll be at the Philly show tonight so I'll take down the setlist/notes.

Thanks so much dude.  Always love the shows you record.  Curious, were you at the Chicago Theater show?

Then there was the whole "getting invited backstage after the show" thing. That was cool, too.,%2011%2007%2018%20PM.jpg

Do tell.  Did you tell them you were gonna be there before the show?

Oh my god I just realized that the lyrics in The Ultimate Sacrifice are "Here I sit, broken hearted/Came to shit, but only farted."  I had absolutely no idea what Ben was saying in that second line.  So goofy.

Hey Raskolnikov any chance you got that recorder in?  Would love to hear how Missing the War and Magic sounded.

Wow.  Missing the War AND Magic.  That's so awesome.  Really hope a recording pops up somewhere.

Thanks for this gig (and all the others you put up).  Much appreciated.

Alright well I checked the Koka Booth Amphitheater site and their presale is $49+fees, slightly more reasonable.  Still, I didn't realize it would be reserved seating as opposed to GA standing room...sort of a deal breaker for me.  I've been fishing for center stage seats but no luck.  Doubt I'll be going now.  Anyway, my question is, how likely do you think it is that they'll play another show in NC at a smaller, indoor venue (say a homecoming type gig at Cat's Cradle or Ziggy's).  They have to right??  And secondly, how likely do you guys think that there will shows added in NYC (aside from Central Park), Philly, DC, Richmond?  Any prognostication is appreciated.

What is with charging $124 for the VIP Ticket?  That's absolutely ridiculous.  I was going to go to the Central Park and Cary, NC shows but not at these prices.  Does anyone know whether the non-presale tickets will be any cheaper?
