Did the Five ever release any of the albums on vinyl?

I would KILL for that shit.  Nothing on eBay .. I doubt it, but I'd love to be pleasantly surprised.

eBay is the place to find it. It pops up from time to time. That's how I have Waea and Messner on vinyl (as well as bfl and sfs). tracking down bf5 is going to be much harder. that, and for some reason I don't seem to be able to find rts on vinyl. they didn't put nbp out on vinyl did they?

I'd guess it's probably not a profitable medium; it's mostly indie bands that put stuff out exclusively on vinyl these days - as bands get bigger, there are less vinyl releases.

Vinyl's in again.  Ironically, it's because of the digital age.  Everyone downloads the music and puts it on their iPods...but every now and then, a hard copy is nice to have and to hold.  So since you already have the MP3s, why not buy the vinyl?  It's definitely the coolest looking format.  A lot of them nowadays even come with free digital downloads.  So yeah, if any medium kills the CD, it's going to be vinyl.  I'm still not keen on iTunes.

Luke, that's an excellent summary of vinyl's current place in society.  Vinyl is the art on my wall.  I collect beautiful and trippy album artwork, as well as my favourite albums.  Hence my search for Reinhold Messner.

Yeah, that is definitely a good summary, I agree with you both.
I think it's just (for me) because vinyls represent a time when hard copies meant the most, especially with the art and such.  And it's true, more and more new vinyls are offering free digital downloads, so it makes the vinyl twice as awesome.

Plus, I just have this natural tendency to balk whatever more than 70% of the population is doing at any given time...if anything, the digital push has brought me toward vinyl  more.  Of course, digital has clearly brough me into a lot more new music, too...but let's not bring this debate all the way there.  It's the holidays for goodness sakes.

Y'all are silly. No one has a record player and you can't take that shit in your car. Only hippies buy them because that's how Jer Bear would have wanted it. or something. Gimme a CD if I like your band, if you're just okay I'll find a good quality MP3 and maybe make a mixtape(CD) or something. CDs have been around since the 70's and all other formats have come, gone, and are barely around.

That said if I had a record player, or if there was some special shit you could ONLY get on a vinyl, I'd buy it.

Like I did when the 7" for Landed came out, with Bitches Ain't Shit as a B-side. Even though I can't play it, I still had to have it.

Someday I'll find someone with a player and see how it sounds.

Or not.

Maybe I'll put it up on eBay and let the kids go nuts.

vinyl sounds way better than cd. vinyl is coming back and cds are going out because the get scratched and everyone has mp3 players. and most new vinyl comes with a link to download the cd in mp3 format for free.

plus, you can package more cool stuff in vinyl.

vinyl wins. cds lose. the end.
