Tour Board / Re: BEN FOLDS FIVE TOUR 2012

I saw that and thought of you. :(

you're right though, chastain is gigantic. I saw The Avett Brothers there in 2010, insane thinking bf5 with no promotion would sell it out. ben's tweet said they were cancelling it for good reasons? if i see the man or any of the three this weekend i shall harass him for you. no worries.

Haha...harassment isn't necessary. It's not like I paid anything for the tickets. I had Friday all planned out, but I can wait. I just wonder when/where it'll be rescheduled and if I can ever use my ticket.

You know where else Ben hasn't been in over a decade? Athens. Wishful thinking, but the Georgia Theatre would be perfect. Best venue in the state and the perfect size.

The Atlanta date has been postponed.

Sucks, because I won the tickets on the radio. Never won anything before, and this happens. :-\ It was announced yesterday, less than an hour after I picked them up.

Ben says it's because they're not ready to play the new songs, which is a weak excuse imo. They have three albums and a hefty vault of b-sides. Plus, they're still playing the festivals and other summer dates.

I'd bet money that it's really due to low ticket sales. Chastain is too big and there really hasn't been much hype/awareness about the BFF reunion outside of the hardcore fanbase. Plus, the show was never even listed on the Chastain website. They should've played The Tabernacle like Ben does every other time he comes to ATL. I really doubt the Ben Folds Five fanbase is any bigger than the Ben Folds fanbase, so it doesn't make sense for them to book these oversized venues.

It says you can return the tickets for a refund--I can't though, so I really hope they'll accept the 6/8 Chastain tickets for whenever/wherever they reschedule.

3 disc edition:

Ever since breaking out of the alternative music scene with his piano, his band Ben Folds Five and the wildly popular hits "Underground" in 1995 and "Brick" in 1997, followed by a successful solo career, Ben Folds has maintained a strong presence as a well respected, critically acclaimed singer-songwriter of his era. With over 3 million units sold to date over his 15 year recording career, Ben Folds' wry, wise and infectiously melodic keyboard-centric storytelling style continues to delight his fervent fan base worldwide. Digging through his endless archive of material, Ben has compiled "The Best Imitation Of Myself: A Retrospective (1995-2011)." This is the first multi-disc career-spanning retrospective featuring over 60 hits, live and rarities tracks spanning Ben Folds' entire recording career from 1991 to 2011, including three brand new tracks with Ben Folds Five! This 3 CD version (covering the years 1991-2011) features 2 additional CD's containing approximately 40 previously unreleased and rare home demos, studio outtakes, alternate mixes, live tracks and three brand new tracks by Ben Folds Five. This 3 disc set is an exciting audio treasure trove for Ben's longtime fans as well as an alternative insight for welcome newcomers to the "fold". Along with the 3 CD expanded edition, fans will get access to the "Ben Folds 55 Vault", of which 5 bonus tracks are included for download with the purchase of this edition.

Why not at least include the reunion show as a bonus DVD or something? Ugh. Other BF DVDs have done okay, right? Why would one of the most highly-anticipated events in the man's career not do at least as well?

The songs sound excellent. Very impressed and I expect this to be a notch above WtN, especially in terms of production. Actually, based what I'm hearing so far, this could be the best record since RtS.

I too am wondering why I can't preorder a package with the vinyl and deluxe CD. Seems like it was set up to get the hardcore fans to buy two packages, which is a dick move if that's the case. Anyway, I got the vinyl package. I'm not a big enough Hornby fan to warrant buying a whole 'nother package just for the stories, though it is cool.

I got my renewal notice too. I've used them for a couple of ticket preorders, and Stems & Seeds was cool, but there wasn't much that really impressed me. Exclusive soundboard recordings of complete shows would make me renew instantly for at least twice as much, though.

I hope Ben was kidding about not knowing who Jason Bateman is...really, Ben? Someone needs to get the man Arrested Development DVDs. Hell, it's even streaming on Netflix.

When I heard the RB3 keytar rumor a month or so ago, RTS was the first thing I thought of. Seems like a blatantly obvious song to include on disc, given that it includes keytar, guitar, drums, bass, and it's got fun parts on all of those instruments. I'll be baffled if they leave it out, honestly.
you gotta remember the language in some of the songs. I dot think they'll want an m rated video game and I'm sure if rockin the suburbs is on the game it would defineatly not help. The ESRB is a bunch of old geezers. I dot think they'll take to kindlyto that. With that said I suggest still fighting it. Has guitar piano bass and drums and the language is not vulgar at all!

Well, RTS was a single after all...all they'd have to do is use the radio edit. Or as lame as it would be, they could use the Over the Hedge version. But there have been a lot of songs in RB/GH that have had profanity (which was censored).

there's a rumor going around that ben is replacing max weinberg on conan 3.0.

I came.

Well...not yet. It's just a rumor I guess. But that definitely gives me a chubby.

I'm jealous of anyone who gets to see Conan on this tour. I had a chance to buy tickets, but they were way too expensive for me right now, even at face value.

Could anyone explain how Ben f*cked with the John Mayer fans?

I can't remember all that he said, but he said they were some other band, posted complaints (mostly about him playing BAS) from the audience on his website, and just decided to have fun on that tour since the audience was mostly moms, teeny boppers, and in-the-closet frat boys.

So I was thinking about all the jokes and stunts Ben has pulled over the years, and it's one of the things that makes him so interesting as a performer to me. I'm probably forgetting one or two, but I thought for a while and that's what I came up with.

The 2002 internet rumors are covered here:
And here's the Improv Everywhere stunt if you don't remember that:

I'm tempted to say Chatroulette just because it's the most recent, but the fake WtN leak is probably the most classic. It's still funny to think how many of us he fooled into believing some of those songs were legit, and even that the one legit one on there (Cologne) was "fake."

Bitches at Berry was great though, just because I know that school, being here in GA, and how conservative it is. Massive testicles.

And I remember how freaked out everyone was during the MySpace webcast, when the guy jumped from the balcony...I totally fell for that one.

Feel free to mention something I'm forgetting.
