So I was watching this
video of the band playing Army recently in Seoul, and I noticed near the end of the song (at 2:34) a lot of audience members threw paper planes on the stage pretty much in unison.
Recently, Ben has done a couple "paper plane request" shows (see
Richmond,
Tokyo). In those shows the instructions to make paper plane requests came from
Ben's tweets.
From watching the videos of the Richmond show, it seems like the planes all came at the beginning and at the direction of someone on the house mic.
The paper planes in Seoul, however, came mid-song and Ben seemed surprised once they start coming. Instead of the second "I've been thinkin a lot today" lyric Ben sang "Y'all are pretty damn funny today" (I think). It looks like Army was Ben's last song before encore and once they finished he picked up a bunch of the planes and made a gesture to suggest he'll come back and play a few of the requests. I unsuccessfully searched for anything to suggest that the paper planes in Seoul were invited by Ben. I'm led to believe that the Seoul paper planes were a product of audience initiative, which would be extremely impressive given the good timing and large amount of paper planes thrown.
Does anyone know more info about the paper planes in Seoul?
If in fact it was the audience collectively pulling a trick on Ben, very impressive. This is probably why
Sam and
Ben tweeted about such a great audience.
Well done Seoul!
