Tour Board / Berlin, Huyley's Neue Welt, 3rd March 2011

Hi folks,

it's been a great show on Thursday though the sound was quite poor, especially the grand piano. Kate is really amazing and pleased the crowd very well.

Ryan seemed kinda insecure on the bass for the first 40 minutes or so. Ben and Sam made one or two jokes about him. Anyway it was a really good setlist though I wished Ben would play some more stuff from "Silverman" (what about Jesusland or Prison Food, it feels like ages when he last played them  :( )

Here's the setlist but not in chronological order, sorry:

Levi Johnston Blues
Doc Pomus
You To Thank
Still Fighting It
Song of Love (with Kate Miller Heidke)
You Don't Know Me (with Kate)
From Above (with Kate)
Annie Waits
Claire's Ninth

Fred Jones Part 2 (only the first few bars cause some idiot yelled the unloved "Rock This Bitch" and Ben made a - quite nice one, I must admit - Rock This Schlampe in Berlin out of it, but afterward he decided not to play Fred again, same thing happened in Hamburg in 2008  >:( )

He played WANDERING for the very first time and I wasn't there  :'(

It's my favourite Ben song. But nonetheless I'm happy he did it. Did smebody film it?

Whoa...what's up with good ol' Ben? I never dreamed he'd play Twin Falls, Dog or even Time in the next 5 years or so. It's great that he picks up so many rarely played gems at this current tour. It'd be awesome if he would play Wandering tonight or at one of the next concert. Could someone of you twitter him to play "Wandering"? PLEAAASSSSEEE! (I don't have an account, that's why ask you...  ;))

I'd love to hear him do 'Wandering'. Could somebody of you request it on some of his next gigs? I'm in Germany, so it's a bit of a problem but just to know that he would sing Wandering sends shivers down my spine.

I agree with you. I think he's voice was best around 1999-2002. He had his peak there.

I think the last time you can really hear the "old" Ben-voice on record is on "Wandering". There's still this feeling and sound in his voice like on many BFF ballads (e.g. Magic, Evaporated). It's strange because all the other tracks on Speed Graphic and the following EPs already got his new voice on. I like his older voice much more cause in my opinion there's more emotional weight in those older songs when he was singing them way back then.

mmmh, I'm not sure if his voice is nowadays less overdubbed and with less sampling than it was 15 years ago....?

For me, it's the middle part ("are you happy...") with the 3-part and harmonies and the last verse of "Wandering" (remember siiting on your car etc.). I don't know what it is exactly, but especially these two moments are so sad but at the same time so...warm-hearted and human (I can't put it in words). These parts alone are worth living  8)

Oh, and I also love "Evaporated", especially for that "it evaporated, see?"-part. Well, actually alomost every Folds or BFF song got its moments.

His best solo song and also (as yet) the last Folds/Jessee collaboration.

"James" or "Sleeping With The Television On" (Billy Joel)
"Generation Sex" (The Divine Comedy)
"Little Bird" (The Beach Boys)
"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" (The Beatles)
"Son of Sam" (Elliott Smith)
"Don't Stop Me Now" (Queen) ...I'd love to hear a Queen song performed by Ben

Hey, 4 songs from "Silverman". That's way above the usual amount per concert of Silverman stuff. I hope he keeps on adding songs from the album like "Prison Food" or "Late". that would be great  :o

Wow, 9 Ben Folds Five songs in one show  :o

That's probably a new record. I'm really happy that the number of BFF songs increased recently!

Wow, 8 BFF tracks, seems like the good ol' Five numbers increase recently. That's really great! So if there's an average number of 2 BFF-songs ascending per month, Ben's concerts will be consisting solely of Five tunes by late summer  ;D

But seriously, I'd appreciate it pretty much if Ben would incorporate some more BFF tunes and A LOT more "Silverman" (mostly from the latter half) and EP stuff. I'm kinda bored of current setlists mainly because of the WTN stuff.

I voted for Bitch Went Nuts cause it's straight forward and therefore quite good for the radio, I think. And it's sounds a bit like good ol' BFF.
