News / Ben Folds to appear on Ringo Starr tribute album (Dec 4)
« on: November 12, 2015, 10:43:35 PM »

What better way to honor Ringo Starr than with an all-star cast? That’s just what fans will get with The Lifetime of Peace & Love Tribute Concert, a new album due on Dec. 4.
Recorded as part of a 2014 tribute concert and celebration sponsored by the David Lynch Foundation in Los Angeles, the bill includes Joe Walsh, Ben Harper and Starr himself offering new interpretations of some of his most famous songs as a solo artist and with the Beatles.
Also featured are Ben Folds, the Head and the Heart, Ark Life, Brendan Benson and Bettye LaVette, performing with a house band that included Peter Frampton, Steve Lukather, Kenny Aranoff and Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers. Walsh is Starr’s brother-in-law, and Lukather is a current member of Ringo’s All-Starr Band. Starr has also previously worked with Harper. You can see the complete track listing below.
Starr received the Lifetime of Peace & Love Award that evening. Proceeds from Ringo Starr: The Lifetime of Peace & Love Tribute Concert will benefit the David Lynch Foundation, which helps fund transcendental meditation in schools.

Tour Board / 2012-11-14 Fremantle Arts Centre - NOW with full audio!
« on: November 14, 2012, 04:38:13 PM » - Rock This Bitch (friend of mine shot it)

Well that was amazing. I seriously could not stop smiling for the entire concert. The band were great, amazing vocals, Ben was very talkative and funny and even took my song request of Tom & Mary! He also called out which key to play Rock This Bitch in and I yelled out "EFFFFFFFFFF" and so Ben played it in F! And ended up singing about Fremantle and some of the streets he walked down yesterday.

I grabbed Roberts setlist, they didn't play Dwarf or Philosophy. Instead they played Emaline (girl I know yelled this out), Tom and Mary (at my request!) and Rock This Bitch.

They also played Kate in the encore, I don't think Army was in the encore, it was the one before... anyway i'll post the proper set list later once I go back and split up the audio...

Oh, what was that? Split up the audio???? Yes, I bootlegged it! I was right up the front and center, in front of these large speaker stacks that the recorder was pointed at. It sounds pretty good although is a bit more distorted than I would've hoped but it was really loud where I was (plus it was windy) but it's very listenable. I also got footage of SC&C, BOWCCL and Rock This Bitch so i'll sync up the audio and upload those soon too.

It was such a great show, unbelievable. Never thought i'd get to see Ben, Darren and Robert on stage again. Robert was very funny and danced about. He didn't play the synth in Narcolepsy, I think he was having issues with it so he just played the synth part on bass and they had some weird little jam before kicking into the proper "band" jam.

I also met a girl called Sarah who's going to every BFF show in Australia (and I thought I was an uber fan...) so if she reads this, hi!

I'll try and get the audio/video online soon!

Here's a link to my recording of their show!

It's mp3 320k. It's a bit distorted and I had to go through and try and manually "normalize" the wave forms so the volume didn't keep going up and down but all things considered, it's pretty good.

Michael Praytor
Missing The War
Hold That Thought
Jackson Cannery
Erase Me
Alice Childress
Sky High
Draw A Crowd
Uncle Walter
Tom & Mary
Do It Anyway

News / Ben Folds Five get interviewed and fraggle-ized @ Comic-Con
« on: October 16, 2012, 03:10:30 PM »

Interesting interview, looks like Ben might be working with Neil on an EP soon!

Darren's reaction to his fraggle picture is a bit weird, and the look he gives to the camera, he just looks like he doesn't give a f*ck. I hope Darren's still having fun.

Tour Board / Ben Folds Five are choosing support bands
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:38:48 PM »
Hey guys,

I drum in a band called The Autumn Isles, we're based in Perth, Western Australia. As soon as I heard the news of BFF coming to Perth (originally only announcing Harvest festival dates on the east coast) and quit hyperventilating and calmed myself down, I managed to make contact with the promoter for the show and give them my bands stuff in an effort to get the support for the band when they play here on Nov 14th. Today I get word that apparently BFF are personally choosing the support(s) themselves!

BFF mean a whooooooole god damn lot to me. I've been into them since I first heard and became obsessed with OAD back in 98 and saw them twice in 99 here in Perth and later that year in Dec at the Royal Albert Hall in the UK (I was 14, 27 now) and i've been obsessed over the band ever since as well as Ben's solo work. I've always wanted to support my all time favourite band and the opportunity is there and i'm hoping Ben, Darren and Robert end up picking my band to support them.

I'm posting this here in case there are any twitter-minded folk out there who wouldn't mind tweeting @BenFolds to consider @theautumnisles as support. I believe we're the most suitable support for the band and i'm hoping Ben might notice enough tweets to help sway his decision to us. If you need some audible proof, you can hear our whole album online here - and our website is (with links to all our other media/etc).

A few highlights...

If Your Love Is Blind -
Fire Away -
Throwing Stones (piano led) -
It's Been A While -
Murky Water -

And we made a music video for one of our songs too!

So y'know, if you dig the music and you deem it appropriate to compliment Ben Folds Five when they hit my home town, tweeting something like "I think @theautumnisles would be perfect to support @BenFolds Five in Perth on November 14"

Worth a shot, right?

Thanks guys!
