All those who aren't going get a free gift.
Check the news page tomorrow evening (GMT).

;)

Hmmm...tomorrow evening GMT means wee small hours of the following morning my time.  But I shall not be deterred!
It's easy to be easy and free when it doesn't mean anything...

I would spend $30 on a DVD of this. They better release this in some format.

between all the phone calls, i heard most of the set. even from the fuzzy sh*tty connection of my cell phone, i nearly cried at the beauty. WHERE'S SUMMER B!!!!!!!
My new philosophy is that a crappy tape deck somewhere plays a greatest hits collection of strange and tender moments, lost, stranded, and forgotten. I'll meet you there.

According to the .ORG:

All of TUBORM, Jackson Cannery, Julianne, Where's Summer B.?, Battle of Who Could Care Less, Selfless, Eddie Walker, (in some order) closing with SFTD.

There you have it.

(Update:  Apparently Ben's dad came onstage for Your Most Valuable Posession, and read from a transcript.)

A lurker surfaces... here's everything that I can remember...

Darren didn't get a lot of respect opening. A damn shame, too, because his songs are very pretty. Dedicated Amelia Bright to Ben & Robert, and got a big pop. I'm sure many of us were familiar with the bootlegs...

The first set was, indeed, Messner from front to back. Some local students came out on horns.

The place was truly batshit during Army. I think the crowd managed to out-sing Ben.

Ben's dad came out and read Your Most Valuable Possession. It was glorious. While waiting for Ben's dad to come out, someone screamed 'ROCK THIS BITCH' from the back of the balcony (where I was sitting). Ben just shook his head and stared at the crowd like "really?"

Ben forgot the words to Regrets... apparently, he still wouldn't have visited his Grandma  ;)

Lullabye was awesome...

~Break for Required Encore~

Came out and jumped right in to Jackson Cannery.

After Cannery, Ben explained how gratifying it was to come back together to play Messner. Talked about rehearsing in London for the Messner tour, getting a call from his manager telling him that the research on "Army" was coming back very negative, and in the case of 99X in Atlanta, listeners were calling in and asking the station to STOP playing Army!

Went into Eddie Walker (cool to have the original 7" played together like that) and Where's Summer B?

Talked about the LOST ORIGINAL ALBUM recorded with producer Stiff Johnson (G Love's producer... I looked it up... he wasn't kidding!) that they scotched because it was "terrible". Ben's publisher "cried" when listening to it, and fronted them $5k to record what would become the self-titled debut with Caleb Southern. Ben described this next song as having originally been recorded in a "terrible slow pot-smoker version".... Julianne!

I think Selfless, Cold and Composed was next, then Battle of Who Could Care less, a smokin' SFTD.

And that was it.

The crowd (myself included) didn't want to let it go. The house lights came up, and we kept cheering.

The stage lights were turned off, and we kept cheering.

The camera men took their cameras off stage, and we kept cheering.

The crew came out to disassemble gear... and that's when the boos started, a buzz kill end to an otherwise glorious night. (Guys, would a final bow have killed ya?)

So, that having been said, musically, they are just as tight as ever. I miss the hell out of Sledge. Jared is awesome, but he's not Sledge. Darren didn't seem like he wanted to be there, he was off the stage at the end of Messner before Ben could even acknowledge him.

A long way of saying "I doubt we'll be seeing a reunion tour any time soon".

Still, I'm glad I got my ass down from Baltimore for it. It was pretty special.

Holler out to the guy from Knoxville who was sitting next to me... I didn't catch your name, but you told me you were from the 'Burbs, so I hope you read this. Thanks for keeping a solo traveler company during the show, and I hope you figure out Jane soon!

That show was insane. When they came out and jumped right into Jackson Cannery I think I peed on myself a little bit.
And than to hear Eddie Walker and SFTD was freakin amazing. Two songs I thought I would never get to hear live.

The crowd did really suck during Hotel Lights, you could barely hear him over the talking.
I know you're in there, I can see you. You're saying you're okay, I don't believe you.
