General Board / Re: PETITION FOR AUSTRALIAN BEN FOLDS FIVE SIDESHOWS!
« on: October 21, 2012, 04:06:41 PM »
Not gunna happen and it's way too late to start a petition in the hopes of making a difference.

AJ Maddah has ruled out BFF doing any sideshows on the east coast, it's Harvest only.

So glad they're doing their own shows in Adelaide/Perth! Means I could sell my Harvest ticket and save $$ on flights cause now I can see them in my home town :)

News / Ben Folds Five get interviewed and fraggle-ized @ Comic-Con

Interesting interview, looks like Ben might be working with Neil on an EP soon!

Darren's reaction to his fraggle picture is a bit weird, and the look he gives to the camera, he just looks like he doesn't give a f*ck. I hope Darren's still having fun.

Oh man, I hope Perth gets this set list next month! But instead of Rock This Bitch/Breaking My Heart I would rather OAD and Julianne

Tour Board / Ben Folds Five are choosing support bands
« on: September 26, 2012, 07:38:48 PM »
Hey guys,

I drum in a band called The Autumn Isles, we're based in Perth, Western Australia. As soon as I heard the news of BFF coming to Perth (originally only announcing Harvest festival dates on the east coast) and quit hyperventilating and calmed myself down, I managed to make contact with the promoter for the show and give them my bands stuff in an effort to get the support for the band when they play here on Nov 14th. Today I get word that apparently BFF are personally choosing the support(s) themselves!

BFF mean a whooooooole god damn lot to me. I've been into them since I first heard and became obsessed with OAD back in 98 and saw them twice in 99 here in Perth and later that year in Dec at the Royal Albert Hall in the UK (I was 14, 27 now) and i've been obsessed over the band ever since as well as Ben's solo work. I've always wanted to support my all time favourite band and the opportunity is there and i'm hoping Ben, Darren and Robert end up picking my band to support them.

I'm posting this here in case there are any twitter-minded folk out there who wouldn't mind tweeting @BenFolds to consider @theautumnisles as support. I believe we're the most suitable support for the band and i'm hoping Ben might notice enough tweets to help sway his decision to us. If you need some audible proof, you can hear our whole album online here - http://theautumnisles.bandcamp.com and our website is http://www.theautumnisles.com (with links to all our other media/etc).

A few highlights...

If Your Love Is Blind - http://theautumnisles.bandcamp.com/track/if-your-love-is-blind
Fire Away - http://theautumnisles.bandcamp.com/track/fire-away
Throwing Stones (piano led) - http://theautumnisles.bandcamp.com/track/throwing-stones
It's Been A While - http://theautumnisles.bandcamp.com/track/its-been-a-while
Murky Water - http://theautumnisles.bandcamp.com/track/murky-water

And we made a music video for one of our songs too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wg_As801Ek

So y'know, if you dig the music and you deem it appropriate to compliment Ben Folds Five when they hit my home town, tweeting something like "I think @theautumnisles would be perfect to support @BenFolds Five in Perth on November 14"

Worth a shot, right?

Thanks guys!

Can anyone confirm what Darren is doing in Magic?  In the days of old he had 2 timpani's, a tambourine and a cymbal that he'd play during the song... what's he playing now? I'm assuming either nothing or tambourine and floor tom...

Woah, Landed?! Really? Kinda cool I guess but I would really like it if BFF were to touch on RtS stuff instead. Would love to hear them do Annie Waits, Carrying Cathy or even Fired!

Dime won't send me my old account info (haven't used it for ages, The Zomb is better) so would appreciate if someone can stick this up somewhere else either for torrent or direct dl... also fine if someone converts to mp3 to make transfers easier/quicker!

I can't stop listening to this song. It's everything I hoped it would be judging from the samples!

I get the feeling that the bridge from 2:30 was a last minute edit. Kinda feel they just looped the drums and ended it with one of Darrens fills to help extend the song a bit. I might be wrong but that's the impression i'm getting

I've heard the new record. I'm a journalist so don't ask me for any leaks etc. but I think everyone's gonna dig it.
It's definitely a mix of Ben's more recent solo efforts (as figured - they DID break up over ten years ago...) but it's awesome to hear the familiar rhythm section and the guys voices.

My favorites by far are ..
"...Michael Praytor" - great verses and great Sledge basslines/harmonies

"Draw a Crowd" is super catchy and starts with Jesusland-esque harmonies. Almost reminds me of "Your Redneck Past..." It's a fun one.

"Hold that Thought" reminds me of "Mess" but has an amazing twist towards the end. Very Reinhold...very BF5.  I almost like it more than "Mess." Would have fit great on "Reinhold..."
Lots of maj7s for the musicians out there.

"Thank You for Breaking My Heart" is a waltz-y ballad and is a little mysteriously beautiful (i.e. "Boxing"/"Selfless, Cold & Composed"). One of their best ballads.

Ben's at his best when he writes in jazzier voicings and that's a huge key to the 5's sound and why his solo stuff is so much different.
Needless to say, it's a great album but more of a grower/slow burner than anything they've done yet but I love it!

I'm dying to hear Michael Praytor in full... DYING

Don't suppose you could find it in your heart to sneak just a rip of that one song to me could you? :)
