OK Guys, it's not in order but here it is...
Zak and Sara
Smoke
Lullaby
Ascent of Stan
*Ben intro's Fred Jones Part 2 by explaining that Cigarette is essentially Fred Jones Part 1, and that was based on the longest sentence he's ever seen in a newspaper. He tries to quote the sentence (almost the enitrety of Cigarette), buggers it up badly 3 times til someone yells for him to sing it. He laughs and tries a few chords whilst saying it's been about 10 years since he's played Cigarette. With a few dodgy chords he gets though Cigarette (audience goes wild) then onto...
Fred Jones Part 2
Stephen's Last Night in Town
Gracie
Jesusland
Mess
One Down (Solo - no orchestra)
Adelaide
*Someone yells Rock This Bitch. Ben says he can't do that because the orchestra weren't prepared last time (a la WASO DVD) and it won't be fun when they're ready for it. Instead he says he's made up a song about Perth to match 'Adelaide'. He has 5 folks from the crowd get up with large cue cards with chords written on for the orchestra to try and follow. He promised to write a Perth song after the Wednesday show, actually wrote it just before the Friday show and performed it solo on Friday and last night got the orchestra involved.
Annie Waits
Brick
Narcolepsy
One Angry Dwarf
Rockin the Suburbs (Solo)
Philosophy
*Encore*
Not the Same (Solo)
The Luckiest
Standing ovation but at this point Ben comes back out, accepts the applause for a minute then steals the Concertmaster (that's the head of the orchestra after the conductor, for those who are uninitiated) with him as he walks offstage. She looked a little surprised to be led off stage by the guest artist!
Excellent show and we were given 'Concert Notes' indicating the list of songs (arranged with orchestra) that the performance was to be selected from. So we missed out on:
Landed
Alice Childress (I wanted that one!)
Boxing
Evporated
But Philosophy wasn't on the list and was performed with Orchestra, so they are obviously mixing it up a little. The solo stuff Ben seemed to be deciding on the spot.
Lots of usual chat from Ben. Nothing about new stuff or the EP rework though.
Watch out Sydney - you're next! Enjoy!
