Tour Board / Muhlenberg College, March 29, 2014
« on: March 30, 2014, 01:16:57 AM »
Originally announced as an orchestra show, it turned out to be solo (and all the posts concerning it have been edited, so someone must have messed up). A bit disappointing, but, hey, it's Ben. How can I complain about that? (I can, however, complain about the awful couple who showed up over an hour late, shoved their way to the front, and then proceeded to make out and talk the whole time, calling out for songs that Ben had already played, and telling him to "just play the song" while he was trying to tell a story. Then the boyfriend called me and my mom assh*les for telling them to "please be quiet" and then told me specifically that he'd "f*cking kill [me]." On the way out, the girlfriend even ran up behind me and gave me a nice shove... I digress...)

It was a great show. Lots of energy from Ben and the audience (singing along to every song and filling in background vocals quite nicely). A number of lyrics flubbed or totally forgotten, but that's all part of the fun as far as I'm concerned.

Set List:
- Annie Waits
- Effington
- Eddie Walker
- Jesusland
- Concerto talk and then played over the PA while Ben mimed the various instruments
- Love In This Club (Usher cover)
- Still Fighting It
- Best Imitation of Myself
- Sentimental Guy
- Zak and Sara
- Landed
- Steven's Last Night In Town w/drum solo
- You Don't Know Me (impressively playing bass drum placed behind the stool and piano simultaneously.)
- Kate
- Fred Jones Part 2
- Emaline
- Rockin the Suburbs
- "I failed my juries"/Rock This Bitch
- Army

- The Luckiest
- One Angry Dwarf
- Not the Same

I recorded semi-decent audio on my phone that I'll fiddle with on my computer for a while. I'll post it eventually.

finally some news on this, if only just a smidgen:

for those of you who are lazy (i am too) i'll quote it for ya.

4) Jen and Justin, Ben Folds. You can’t hear this song at the moment, and I’m hoping you never will. … One of my side-projects this year (and it’s been more fun than I want to admit) is to attempt lyrics for Ben Folds’s next album, and even if nothing comes of it, I have learned more about the craft of songwriting from the e-mails I’ve been getting than from just about anything I’ve ever read. Most of the time I’ve been sending over words that he’s going to try to set to music; occasionally we’re working the other way around, and I’ll try to fit a lyric to an existing melody. This tune has one of Folds’s most heart-melting choruses, which, considering his melodic gifts, means it’s as pretty as a pop song can be. In his version — he got halfway through some words, and on my mp3 he hums the verses and sings the chorus — this song is about throwing up at a John Meyer concert, but I beg to differ. It doesn’t sound like that to me. My version is entitled “Claire’s Ninth,” which is why I hope you never hear a song called “Jen and Justin.” I want to WIN.

General Board / Autograph Requests

i was thinking of writing to Darren Jessee about getting an autograph. i was wondering what would be a fair thing to do. i was thinking maybe two things for him to sign (cd artwork and a regular photo). is that asking too much? i don't want to seem like a jerk or anything. :P

« on: April 10, 2008, 01:40:40 PM »
so i, uh.. kinda got in trouble for file sharing.  :'( and my ISP said they'd terminate our internet if it happens again. so my dad had me clear the computer of everything questionable, and Ben Folds concerts came up. he said that i can't download stuff from anymore. is wuwtl legal? i absolutely love that website, and everyone who's contributed to it, but is there a legal reason that i should stay away? it makes me incredibly sad that i can't get anymore stuff from there.  :'(
