Title: DOWNLOAD: Ben Folds Five Uncut DVD
Post by: Andy on September 18, 2008, 11:10:22 AM
I'm very proud to present the first of the 'theSuburbs Video Collection'!

I'm assuming you came here from the new page, but if not: To celebrate the reunion gig I've made a DVD of a VH1 Special - "Ben Folds Five Uncut" - that aired the day after TUBORM came out and features a half-hour show that they played in London... the first time they played TUBORM material in front of a live audience.

It's a region-free PAL format DVD which should play in a majority of players (see instructions below)

Download the torrent file (http://www.wokeupwaytoolate.com/filedump/Video%20Files/Ben%20Folds%20Five%20Uncut/bffuncut.torrent)

Yep, a torrent. I originally had it uploaded on wokeupwaytoolate, but a bug with the server means it can't handle huge files! I will look to resolve it and get a regular download working ASAP.

If you've not come across them before, an ISO file is basically a handy way to store an entire disc as one file. These can be either burned to a DVD, or just watched as they are. Here are instructions for both:

1) Burn to DVD
If you've got a DVD burner you can burn the ISO image straight to a DVD and play it back in any regular DVD player (though it must support the type of DVD your burner churns out). If you've no software already I recommend grabbing the free ImgBurn software (http://www.imgburn.com/) which is super-straightforward to use. Just put a blank DVD in your burner, click "Write image file to disc", select the downloaded ISO file under 'Source' and click the big button at the bottom of the left column.

2) Just watch the ISO
There's a free player called VLC (VideoLAN) (http://www.videolan.org/) that can play ISO files like they're DVDs. Just install it, open it up, click 'File' -> 'Open Disc...', select 'DVD (menus)' at the top and type 'dvd://' and the path to the ISO file at the bottom (eg "dvd://c:\Ben Folds\Video\bffuncut.iso"). Press 'OK' and the DVD should start playing.

Hopefully that'll help anyone who needs help. If not just post below and either I or someone else will see what we can do.

Enjoy!

seeds are users who have the entire file (100%)
peers are users who do not have the entire file.

the more seeds the faster it goes. but since this just started up, pretty much everyone is a peer.

I appreciate that it's going to be a bit slow for you guys right now. My original plan was to put it on wokeup but there's a bug with the server which means it can't handle files over 2GB.

I'm still looking to get it hosted, and I've got my settings here to serve the file as fast as my net connection can handle, so thanks for being patient!

Should be speeding up now as more people get more of the file.
When yours has finished leaving it open for other people to grab bits will help us all out a lot!

OK, because of the unexpected wait involved I've upped the first song - Don't Change You Plans - to Youtube

Sorry about the crappy quality - I shrunk the file down so it'd upload quickly. It actually wasn't too bad until Youtube got hold of it...

^ I don't get it, that's not the video in the torrent.

The torrent is most definitely the infamous 'Freaking Out' show, performed in Tokyo in 1999, not a show in London in April.

I mean, I'm not complaining, but this is a completely different show  :)

...the torrent is Freaking Out? not to be all "i have that. why are you giving me something for free that i already got for free" but uh.. yeah. i already have that. :-\

edit: turns out it's possible to play the .iso file even without completing the download (only clips). i don't understand how you got Freaking Out, but i definitely got/am getting the VH1 thingy.

Bravo... After work today I'll put this file up on my MobileMe Public share folder. That might make it a little easier to get for those with speedy connections. Just be sure you either host it somewhere yourself or Torrent it. My ISP throttles Torrents, so I'll just put the whole damn file up! Woo!

That's odd. I authored it to be region-free.
You can play the ISO file directly on a PC with the free (and awesome) VLC player. See the original post in this thread for instructions.

It's a torrent - you need a program like Vuze (formerly Azureus). Open the .torrent file with that and it'll magically download the .iso and cover art.

Hello there,

This is my first post here, so I'm not sure if this is the done thing to be asking, but can anyone do an old fashioned snail-mail trade for this title with me? Or do people just do downloads? I'm still in the dark ages and only have dial-up, so I get my titles still by mailed-out trades. I'd be mighty grateful if someone was able to help in this regard. My list is at: www.geocities.com/rrrkitchen/vcd-dvd.html

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Maurice. :)

Thanks Andy, this is great.  A real gem.

On April 16th of 1999, a few days after this DVD was shot, BFF played the material live in the US for the first time, kicking off their tour in Brunswick, Maine.  They played 8 tunes off of TUBORM.  Next time I'm in Maine, I'll snag my audio copy of the show and upload it online.
