Title: 1990 Demo and Beginnings REMASTERED
Post by: Eccojedi on May 30, 2005, 02:43:41 AM
Aight folks, Eccojedi from the .org here. I meant to post something here earlier, but anyway, I have remastered new cuts of the 1990 Demo bringing them up to speed and completely CD Quality.  I also have been working on The Beginnings (this is a work in progress) and that can be found here: Http://Remastered.BenFoldsFive.net

Anyone that wants the 1990 Demo right now has to IM me for the files, but I'm trying to get hosting.  Believe me, it's worth it to get these, most of them are album-worthy in quality.

Thanks Ecco! There are the lossless FLAC files here for all you traders:

Celine deserves MAD PROPS for getting this material out into the great wide world. Thank you!

The remasters of Celine's files are simply optomized, up-to-speed, EQ'ed, and noise-reduced versions. If you hear mine, it's the same or better quality, ben just doesn't sound like he's on opium.  ;D

Since I don't have the hosting for full files, I have a ZIP up at YOUSENDIT which has 128K versions of all the remasters of the 1990 Demo. I have on my computer 256K versions as well, just IM me for them.

Any plans to remaster the FLACs and distribute them as FLACs? I know it'll make a lot of traders happy.

Ecco--the yousendit link didn't work, and I don't have IM or torrent capability.  Any ideas?

I will do the FLAC's if someone gives me time, I saved most of the settings, but I still haven't got the ability to stream.

The 256K ones sound really good though, and given the average quality of the files involved, there isn't really an audible difference even in my studio headphones.

Nice recording. Hey, Ecco, I saw you in the Gaia BFF thread. I'm Romulus on there.

hey there andy! i'm glad that you're spreading the news on the files.

i'd wondered about posting these, and was worried that i'd get in trouble with sony or something, but i haven't heard anything (yet) so i guess nobody cares. yay!

Hey Celine! Long time no (direct) chat. Bring back #bff, eh? ;)

Anyway - you totally rock for getting this out. Sony won't throw a wobbly; as long as you're not threatening their pockets they tend to leave you alone. It's my pleasure to spread the news. People need to get their hands on these files and it's certainly worth learning about FLACs and torrents.

Be sure to keep us posted on any more recordings you unleash form your mighty vault!

This is great.  I've always loved the OAD demo.  It sounds like how it may have sounded had it been cut in the 70s!

Anyway, for a little bit of background about some of these demos, I read that Ben used to make a lot of the demos on his own and then he'd bring them to the band, and they would make it their goal to 'beat the demo'.  Sounds like "OAD" falls into that category, and at least some of the others.

I'm on a library computer right now, but I'll be getting my internet back very soon. I'm talking to someone on the .org that has found me hosting for the 256k files, and I'll probably have those up by tomorrow or sunday.

Andy,

#bff is so dead. I feel sad, I don't even think I have an IRC client on here. But I do know that last time I was in there, Kevin and Adam were still holding down the fort (although I think neither one of them ever speaks.)

I have another show that I posted up here:

http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?p=143387#post143387

From 11/10/97, in Richmond, VA. It's a reaaaaally good show. Before the live shows got boring.

I just got a new tape player yesterday (yay!) It's so funny, I am so hot or cold about these tapes. Hopefully I can get a few out over the summer.

Anyway - enjoy!

love, celine

Thanks for all the shows and lossless audio stuff. Keep them coming. However, how does one go about getting these onto an audio CD for listening pleasure in the car?

Just get a shn or flac converter, depending on the type of files.  There's a lot of them, these are the ones I use:

For SHN: http://www.etree.org/mkw.html

For FLAC: http://mikewren.com/flac/

Do you still have the converted .wav files?  If so, you could post them on a trading site like thetradersden.org.

Quite sadly, the WAV files that were supposed to be saved to my archive drive... didn't save.. However, their conversions to 256K saved fine, and I must say that there was almost NO difference between the two, quality-wise.

07/09/00, the summerfest show from milwaukee, is being torrented here:

http://www.thetradersden.org/forums/showthread.php?p=146647#post146647

it was their next-to-last US show, and it sounds pretty good! i also have their last US show, in chapel hill at the cradle. hopefully i can get around to that next week.

maybe i should make a new topic or something. i really like just posting in this thread, though! it is long.

Ok, thanks for the info.  I'll do a remaster myself and post the lossless files for those that want them.  If you could give me some info (software used, percentage sped up, etc.) I'd appreciate it tremendously.
