Album Board / Super Deluxe version
« on: September 14, 2015, 09:24:01 AM »
Did anyone else buy this or was it just me?! Still, the print is cool, number 1 of 300 - now probably rendered worthless as I had to open the thing to get the download code...And why the HD DVD audio? Like anyone can actually play these things in 2015! Love the album though - I think this is probably my second favourite thing he has done after Silverman.

There is an upside to being on PR lists...

BEN FOLDS FIVE ANNOUNCES FIRST UK DATES
REUNITED BAND TO TOUR THE UK IN NOV/DEC
INCLUDES LONDON XMAS SHOW
AS YET UNTITLED ALBUM SET FOR AUGUST RELEASE

This winter original members of Ben Folds Five (Ben Folds, Darren Jessee, Robert Sledge) will return to the UK for the first time since Christmas 1999 playing 8 shows in the UK and Ireland.
The tour is scheduled to begin in Bournemouth on November 23. Ben, Robert and Darren first got back together last summer to record three new songs for a career retrospective 3-CD set released in October of last year. Finding it to be fun and feeling that old magic, the three original members decided to go the distance and record a full new album at Benís Nashville studio earlier this year.
The reunited band will debut this summer in the States playing just 4 major gigs in June at Mountain Jam in upstate New  York, Chastain Park in Atlanta, the Bonnaroo festival, and wrapping up at Milwaukee SummerFest. Following the upcoming August release of the album, Ben Folds Five will play a full North American tour in September-October, drop down to Australia and then begin the UK/Ireland run of dates.

News / My little Ben Folds article

Just a shameless plug for a little article I wrote to plug the UK tour...

Ten Reasons To Love Ben Folds
http://tinyurl.com/33uw48f

Though the title kinda got mangled and reads Ten Reasons To Love Ben Folds Five and contains glaring, glaring grammatical errors...ignore those!

The song choices are also a bit populist - had to choose some with vids so...there you go. Read it, like the hell out of it tell your friends and convert the world one by one people!

Album Board / Could this be the album to break Ben here in the UK?!
« on: June 15, 2010, 03:22:01 AM »
A new label (which, by looking at the artists they have looks a pretty good home for Ben), and a new album with a profilic novelist, especially here in Blighty - I can see this getting a bucketload of press and, hopefully, getting Ben the coverage he deserves (and some UK dates - lots of them please!)

Don't know about anyone else, but I am so glad that he ditched Sony, who didn't know how the hell to market him and obviously didn't give a rats arse what he did (how else can you explain some of the guff on Way to Normal?!)

Hopefully, with Nonesuch, he will get the guidance and support to get the best out of him and bring him to the attention of the wider public. They have artsists like Randy Newman, Wilco, Natalie Merchant, David Byrne, Bjork - All prestige artists - maybe this is a label that cares about it's roster as much as about the money they can make.

I'm excited - who's with me?!

General Board / lets get Ben and the orchestra to the UK
« on: April 14, 2009, 10:02:20 AM »
An idea occurred to me last night when I was trying to sleep...it may be a brilliant one!

Ben said in the webchat that the reason he hasn't done the orchestra thing in the UK is because no one has asked him to...well, lets all write to the BBC to get the BBC concert orchestra to team up with him? It would easily sell out somewhere like the Barbican or the Festival Hall or The Albert Hall

It would be awesome and don't we own them anyway?!

Lets make it happen people -

I have just come across this nice little piece about being on the road with Ben - I haven't read all of it yet so don't know when it dates from (Dur 2002, just noticed), but I don't recall ever seeing it before..

So, for those of us (OK, me) who STILL haven't got it, or can't watch it in good ol' blighty coz we have crap DVD players or are internet spacs, west 54th is finally getting a proper UK release on the 23rd June (says so on the HMV website and Play) all for the bargain price of £5.49

I guess Sony have put 2 + 2 together and put a couple of minutes thought into hawking it in time for the tour.
Why oh why is Ben still signed to em eh?!

time for a trip down memory lane methinks....

ahhhhhhhhh

News / MySpace / WASO DVD review in July Q
« on: June 01, 2007, 08:04:39 AM »
Thought I'd post this - It's nice when critics talk sense!

Live At MySpace (4 stars)
Live In Perth (4 stars)

Two contrasting shows from geek rock poster boy

With a setlist decided by internet requests, Folds Live At Myspace show from his Nashville studioin 2006 was the first ever live performance on the website. Essentially a surrogate greatest hits, it includes stripped down versions of Kate, Bastard and the caustic Rockin' The Suburbs.
For Live In Perth, Folds is backed by the full West Australian Symphony Orchestra in the city's Kings Park in 2005.
One show is intimate, the other dramatically sweeping, but both are astonishingly well conceived and delivered, showcasing Folds's hugely undervalued talent.

Amen to that. I don't know what's up with Q this month, they even like Tiny Dancers enough to give their first album 4 stars (check em' they are excellent). And not even a picture of Bono anywhere. Strange, strange times....
