Tour Board / World Cafe Live - Philadelphia, PA 5-12-15
« on: May 14, 2015, 09:09:52 AM »
Hello everyone,

Haven't been here in ages but just wanted to drop a line and say hello.  Saw ben a couple nights ago in philly.

Wanted to note a couple things--
The song he opened with was the original "Ain't Got No Words" which he's clearly been kicking around for probably a decade-- you can hear the original version here:\

The other new songs sound pretty good, "Long Way To Go" being my favorite aside from "Ain't Got No Words" which I should now mention is now called "So There" according to that webiste.

Full Setlist is here:

Didn't stay to meet Ben, part of me wanted to but it was really crowded and I've already interviewed him on the phone once.

Over and out.

Been a bit since I've posted on here but I wanted to show off my interview with Ben.  Feel free to retweet, post, all that.  Etc.  Hope you enjoy, and all is well.

News / Ben Lee Interview on my Blog
« on: August 22, 2011, 06:08:01 AM »
Hey everyone,
I've recently started a music blog--lots of interviews and things.  Mostly electronic type music, but I just interviewed Ben Lee.  You can read it here:

Hope you all enjoy.  Unfortunately, when I talked to him there was no new album announcement before, so I didn't get to ask as much about it as I wanted to, but... oh well.

News / Dear Ben - an open letter on a possible new BFF record
« on: August 21, 2011, 08:20:02 AM »
Dear Ben,
We're all big fans of you here.  In fact, some might say you're our favorite.  Most of us love almost everything you've done, and now you have an opportunity to make us all very happy.

PLEASE make a new Ben Folds Five record.  You don't have to rush it, you can take as much time as you guys need to make it great.  Last we heard, you were only in talks about maybe doing another, but this needs to turn to a definite yes.  I personally think that your entire catalog is great.  Ben Folds Five was all of your younger ideas beautifully mixed with those of Darren and Robert.  When you went solo, your style matured even further and we got a different side of you.  But now, you have the opportunity to make pretty much every person on this site, and many many other people elsewhere, very happy.  Your matured style you've crafted over the past 10 years, mixed with those of Darren and Robert would create an excellent piece of music that would be rightfully the 4th BFF studio album that never was.

We all respect your solo career very much.  I don't think you need to go and be doing shows with Darren and Robert for forever again-- that's not really healthy at this point.  Tons of bands split up for a few years for different projects and occasionally reunite for a tour or two.  You've now got an opportunity to hang out with your old pals and make some great music, and then after whatever tours you wanted, you could be on your merry way on other projects.   My point is, there is no longer the bizarre demand that you guys kill yourself with touring anymore.  You're all older now and more established.

Most of us are wetting our pants at the idea of a new BFF record.  So pretty please, indulge us?

Your old pal,

also, noticed on ben's facebook, the people front of judea links to a healthcare website.

"Well, I think we're tempted to write a musical piece together. As soon as we finished that project, we both started to get really busy. I've been working on a retrospective CD that is a three CD set, plus fifty-five songs that go along with it on the internet. So, it's like a one hundred-ten song collection."

News / A short theorem on lonely ave... (album spoilers?)
« on: September 22, 2010, 08:52:22 PM »
So i've listened to most of the new album.. everything except saskia and your dogs...

anyone else feel like alot of the album cuts kinda close to ben?  think about it-- the parents of divorced children comes to mind.  and the singer of belinda relives his experience everytime he plays it-- much like ben probably has to relive the events of brick.  idk, just thinkin out loud.

also important to note, the original picture window we're used to appears to be the pop version... and things we think is actually things you think.  i just cancelled my preorder.  would rather find another way to get that one bonus track then rebuy the entire album...

News / I just heard...
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:10:22 AM »
I just heard on the news levi's 2nd engagement was called off because he got another girl pregnant, and the final straw was when Bristol discovered Levi was in Hollywood filming a music video making fun of her family.

I suspect ben is involved. That is all.

General Board / Literal vs Story
« on: July 28, 2010, 08:53:18 AM »
Hey yall,
I was driving in the car yesterday, and I put on messner, and I was thinking about how some of ben's songs are clearly autobiographical and some are stories of someone else, sometimes told through their point of view, a la Randy Newman.  Which songs do you suppose are actually autobiographical, or semi-autobiographical, or written about a true story, or completely fictional?

For example, I always thought that Don't Change Your Plans was a fictional story.

Transcription / Annie Waits?
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:53:12 AM »
I've never been able to find good chords even for this song, let alone an accurate transcription of how he plays the beggining of the song.  Does anyone have anything good on this?  Preferably not NWC, because I can't read those...

Transcription / WtN quick and dirty chords for everyone
« on: October 03, 2008, 12:21:28 PM »
i just wanted to make a quick, dirty, slutty version of all the chords for the songs that i've figured out.  hopefully this will spark faster transcriptions and hopefully people can fix my holes.  i'm not gonna do them to the lyrics but i'll organize them to the best of my memory in song format.

hiroshima-entire song
F, F/E, Dm, Bb, however i've always wondered what the inbetween chord at the end is.  anyone know that?

Dr. Yang- don't know it yet

Frown song- someone just did this but i'll lay it out simply again
Bm, D, A, E, except last time is Bm, D, E two counts
F, C, G, F, C, E
F, C, G, F, C, E
D, F
bridge- F#m, F, C, Em

You don't know me- haven't finished this quite yet, hopefully someone will take this and run
G Bm G Bm Em Bm Em Bm is the main part
chorus is Am D Am D G Em G Em

Errant dog- not to take andy's thunder, but played simply is
Bdim/G (main riff)
this is probably out of order but the main verse chords are G, C, F, D
the change is Eb Bb Eb C
chorus is C D C D and then just a G quickly for the UH part.
bridge is Dm C Bb F then the riff

Free coffee-- Not a clue how to play this, but the first chord is some sort of C, and it's too complex for simple chord mapping

Bitch Went Nuts- Eb Ab Cm Bb
chorus- Ab Cm Bb
Solo- some form of Ab

brainwascht- Gmaj7, Cmaj7
alll in a pop song- Am7, Cmaj7, D7
chorus- Cmaj7, Gmaj7
don't know the bridge quite yet.

Effington-- Mainly some sort of F chord, but i dont' know it all quite yet

Kylie from Connecticut-
Eb, Gm, Cm, Bb
chorus- Gm7/Eb, D, Gm
says you've got hte number- C, Am, Bb
last chord - Bmaj7 (I think)

hopefully everyone can understand this, but i found most of them out pretty quickly.  hopefully this will spark some good stuff.
