Tour Board / Los Angeles, CA at The Greek, 2015/06/27
« on: June 28, 2015, 08:30:31 AM »
I don't have a setlist, but last night's gig (like all of the yMusic shows I've seen so far) left me more excited about Ben's music than I have been in ages.

The night's opener was Venus and the Moon, which for those (like me) who weren't keeping track, is Frally Hynes' group. Lovely, ethereal music which felt right at home in the carved-into-the-hills Greek Theater at twilight.

As for the Ben set, "Phone in a Pool" continues to be a favorite of mine from the new material and they've added some new harmonies since I last saw it live, with Sam getting to show off a little.

Regina Spektor joined Ben and the gang for "You Don't Know Me," which felt a little like getting to see a beloved original broadway cast come back together on a TV special. Except we were there. And it was fantastic.

From the back catalogue, we were treated to a lovely run through of "Mess," and while it's become a standard in the setlist, I don't think anyone could grow tired of this band tearing the roof off "Steven's Last Night in Town." Ben opened the encore with "Evaporated," which seemed to resonate with me more than usual. Must be something about sitting under the California stars and the idea of getting in a car and going...

This being LA, there were several notables in attendance, and nothing proves "they're just like us" like looking to your right and seeing Bob Saget doing the horn part of "Army," or Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen joining the harmonies of "Not the Same."

One final note, if any of you were on the fence about going to next week's show in Nevada on July 3rd, I'd suggest committing to it.

So who's going to this show with me? It's my 73rd show, my sister's first (this is her birthday gift), and my very first time seeing the guys on the West Coast. I'd love to know if any Burbians are headed that way, and if so, what time you plan to be there!

General Board / Setlist Database
« on: July 26, 2012, 11:51:01 AM »
Inspired by Allison and the rest of the gang with their spreadsheets and charts I want to create a website simular to what Phish and Grateful Dead fans enjoy where there's a database of all known Ben Folds/Five tourdates and setlists.

The site will be crowd sourced, with users submitting setlists which are then entered into the database. States would be compiled and last known performances would be included.

This site has something simular, but it hasn't been updated in a VERY long time and the Five days were left out. If we want to revitalize that section, and make it a bit more comprehensive and include old shows, that would rock. I've managed to dig up some older setlists while going back and looking through old notes and journals I kept in the 90s, as well as some internet research. I bet others have simular information floating around.

I know we have some pretty rad fans here, and some are even coders - let's talk about getting this off the ground.

Tour Board / Jan. 31st, 2011 - St. Louis Setlist
« on: February 01, 2011, 01:35:10 PM »
The Pageant - St. Louis, MO Jan. 31st.
Levi Johnston's Blues (I usually skip past this on the album, but they played with it enough to really give it new life for me. Loved it.)
Doc Pomus
Rock This Bitch with A Man Down (Sam's snare kept f*cking up, so Folds sang about his equipment troubles as they worked to replace the snare)
You to Thank
Saskia Hamilton (If anyone is doubting Ryan's ability to be a complete badass, please reference this performance)
Still Fighting It
Clair's 9th (Awesome work from Tambo and Higley on this one.)
Picture Window
Last Polka (Folds knocked this outta the park. Emaline, too. One of the better solo versions I've seen. I still wish the band would play it.)
The Luckiest
The Secret Life of Morgan
Annie Waits
Zak and Sara (Possibly one of the best Z+S performances I've ever witnessed. Loved the interplay between Tambo and Sam.)
You Don't Know Me
The Bitch Went Nutz
Army (With the last line: "I thought about jpar's Great, Great Grandmommy")

I also went to the Fulton show, but I didn't write down a setlist. I will note the show featured an incredibly rare band performance of "Brick," and I do believe that's the first time that's happened in a while (and for sure with Ryan on bass). The tune was particularly raw last night, and it almost felt as if it was the first time I'd heard it. That led to a hilarious version of "Rockin' the  Suburbs" where Folds used his synth like a gun, shooting audience members as they screamed "f*ck!" until he popped the chord out and "ran out of bullets." I think having the show unexpectedly be the last of the tour really pumped the band up. St. Louis may have been tighter, but the last four to five songs of the Fulton gig were truly epic.

So who's going? I'll be there, but I'm the only one from KC making the trek I know of. Love that venue, and I wouldn't miss a chance to see the guys there again!

Don't see a thread for these few dates which have trickled out recently, but Ben and Co. will be in my neck of the woods at the end of January playing shows!

01.30.11 St. Louis, MO @ The Pageant <-- One of my favorite places to see concerts in the country.
01.31.11 Fulton, MO @ Champ Auditorium at Westminster College <-- At least it's not a gym?
02.01.11 Tulsa, OK @ Cain’s Ballroom <-- Love this venue!

Huzzah! Who plans on attending these shows? And with Folds SO CLOSE to KC, could another date be far behind?

Hey Gang,
I've co-created a new web series soon to be streaming all over the place, and we recently got a great write-up in the Lawrence Journal World that I wanted to share with you. I'm focusing on this series this Spring, so I won't be making it to any of Folds' dates this tour and seeing all my Foldsfriends as much as I'd like (unless a last minute Kansas City gig pops up - maybe our premiere party?). Maybe that'll spur me to be more active here? I dunno.

Anyway, if you'd like, you can head over to our website at and we've got a link to the article and a lo-res trailer up. We're posting a high-res version this weekend on our own site, but the LJWorld has an exclusive for now. Hope you like it, and if you feel so inclined, please follow us on Twitter (@dead_wait) and fan us on Facebook!

So I decided to flip through some bootlegs and put together playlists of the albums using only live versions of the tracks. Fun, and a good way to waste 30 minutes trying to power through writer's block. I think I got everything... What cuts would YOU use?
