News / Re: Ben Folds Five "Live" will be released on June 4, 2013

Pretty excited about this, but I agree with Allison, Landed just doesn't feel right...I also wish they included some other songs from earlier in the tour, Fair in particular tops my a few of the shows the ending piano solo  and jam session was awesome and Robert and Darren were really pounding out the bass and drums as well. Some others just from shows I went to: Mess, Dr. Pyser,  Where's Summer, Emaline, Philosophy, Kate, Praytor, Army (how do you NOT include Kate and Army?) and yes I want Rock This Bitch in Chicago because it was great. When am I finally going to get a decent recording of Steven's last night in town live?

When Ben was talking about the retrospective, he vetoed things like his cover of Twin Falls from his solo nights at The Vic because there was already a recorded version of the song (even if it was from ~15 years prior). It wouldn't surprise me if the tracklisting on Ben Folds Live and the live portion of the retrospective influenced just what all went onto this one.

I'm happy with a lot of it, but am pretty surprised at no Michael Praytor. It would be awesome to get stuff from last summer's tour, but I think there are at least a couple of really nice bootlegs floating around, so that's something?

I'm really sad Guster isn't playing the Chicago date.

Yeah, this blows.

Told a story about the CEO of Dreamworks making him delete the word "microscope" from the original lyrics for the version that actually appeared in the film

He is a graduate of my college and was here to premiere the Puss in Boots movie for some big thing last year. Definitely seems like the kind of guy who would go "yeah, we can't have words like 'microscope' in a song in a kids' movie."

Might be an odd topic, but here goes

During the BFF days, Ben's interviews were sarcastic, humorous, and never taken too seriously. Once he hit the solo years, I found that he gave some seriously in depth words about his songs, and his outlook on life in general. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I can't think of the last time I read a really moving Ben Folds interview. I'm wondering if it has to do with the five being back together, or if he's just not as open to talking about his creations and life as he once was. I just miss all the blogs and great interviews he used to give, he's got some real role model status going on that I loved hearing him share.

Did you not read the interview where he told the world that he and Fleur broke up and that he doesn't think he really understands women very well? That seems pretty personal to me...

Also, what's that about hating piracy? Ben's said before that he doesn't give a shit as long as you listen to his music.

I get the feeling someone slipped up and that that's a record store day thing? Would be a good fit.

So, sometimes when I get bored, I sift through Folds videos on YouTube, and I had forgotten that, for some reason, you just can't access some of the retrospective promo videos in America. Do we have those ripped somewhere? Or does anyone have a simple IP faking solution that will let me watch them?

It's a good one. More than the usual questions. Also glad to see Darren talk. And at length. :)

And laugh!

It makes me really happy that his favorite new Amanda Palmer song is the same as mine

Did anyone get that Nashville show with Kesha and Wayne Coyne?

I remember hearing Brick on the radio when I was maybe 13 or so? I distinctly remember it playing right after Savage Garden's Animal Song. I couldn't make out the chorus too well and wasn't that into music at the time and mostly forgot about it.

Flash forward to just over 4 years ago, I was engaged and we were looking for songs for the wedding on YouTube (this is not going where you think it is), and my now ex and I had already figured out our song, but I needed to find something for the mother/son dance and thought I'd see if I could find a decent Elton John song, as she's a huge Elton fan. Maybe a few videos deep, the sidebar showed some guy named Ben Folds in Elton glasses covering Tiny Dancer.

It was a f*cking landslide from there, and when the ex and I broke up, I fell into music a lot harder than I had before that. My first Ben Folds show was in Columbia Missouri on May 27th. Turns out that a good chunk of my Ben Friends were there too. I've seen him (or the Five) 16 times since then.

I still remember being young and dumb and thinking his solo work was somehow "better" than the older stuff. I don't even know why I thought that at the time, but the very first time I heard Fair and Underground was July 11th of that year and I was just blown away by amazing songs that I didn't know. After that show, I met Ben back by the bus, where my camera acted all sh*tty and he talked about how much he hated digital over film.

The fact that I could actually end up seeing Ben Folds Five more times than the man solo, depending on how the spring tour shakes out, amazes me.

there's no need to correct you! i am sooooo jealous. Evaporated is the song I tell people is my favorite, when I have to chose just one.

Jealous. I've heard him do it solo, I think, but obviously never with the boys.

And I think my "favorite" is either Alice Childress or Video. If pressed, probably Video.

Can't you pay extra for faster delivery?

That's not 2-4 weeks of being on a truck. It usually means Amazon doesn't likely have it in stock right now, but they will soon.
