Tour Board / York, PA - April 22nd 2017
« on: April 23, 2017, 12:48:51 PM »
Stuff isn't in order.  It's also possible I forgot something.

First half:
  • Phone in a Pool
  • Annie Waits
  • Bastard
  • Landed
  • Not a Fan
  • Capable of Anything

Second Half:
  • Rock This Bitch Improv (about using the word "Choose" instead of "Pick" when someone yelled to pick their paper airplane)
  • Video
  • Levi Johnston Blues
  • Battle of Who Could Care Less (audience did the harmony)
  • Army
  • The Luckiest
  • Fred Jones, Part II
  • One Angry Dwarf
Encore:
  • Zak & Sara

I will say, I never saw someone head bang to Fred Jones, but I guess there's a first for everything.  Someone was also really hammered sitting next to us, and passed out during OAD.  I did request Fear of Pop in the paper airplanes, but he sadly didn't see it (or threw it out, ha).

Great concert.

Tour Board / MPAC, Morristown, NJ - September 18th, 2016
« on: September 18, 2016, 02:52:59 PM »
I did the sound check experience thing, we're in the middle of waiting for the full show later, so I'll update with a set list probably tonight/tomorrow.

In terms of uncommon (?) songs he sampled, we got:
Silver Street
Fired
Twin Falls
Ascent of Stan

I yelled for Fannie Packs, but he sadly didn't hear me.

Set list so far:
(Part I)
Annie Waits
Last Polka
Phone in a Pool
Effington
Bastard
Landed
Not the Same
Capable of Anything
I'm Not the Man
Rockin' the Bitch Pushing a VW Bug (story from 1992 pushing a classic VW bug owned by a teacher)
Not a Fan - explained the backstory as a man, decked out in tattoos got back stage at a Folds Five concert, asking what Brick was about (he wasn't a fan, but his girlfriend was).  Ben described him as a zealot.  Upon Ben's "leaving it to the listener" explanation, the guy pulled a knife saying, "I think I know what it's about," and security grabbed him.

Part II is upcoming, and will be a paper airplane request.

(Part II)
Jackson Cannery
Song for the Dumped
Doc Pomus
Kate
Bitches Ain't Shit
Philosophy
The Luckiest
Alice Childress
Tiny Dancer

EDIT: Forgot Bastard in the opening set.  We did the 4 part counter point as an audience.

The opening act was pretty chill.

- Beautiful Machines - yMusic
- So There
- Rock this Bitch (Ben was in the middle of explaining a joke, then some dude in the back yelled RTB, and so RTB was a story about the joke)
- Long Way to Go
- Not a Fan (Ben didn't come in right for the opening lyric, and restarted)
- Effington
- I'm Not the Man
- Phone in a Pool
- Mess
- Music in Circles -yMusic
- Song for the Dumped
- Capable of Anything
- Steven's Last Night in Town
- You Don't Know Me

Encore:
- Army
- Not the Same

I'm not entirely sure of the setlist's order, but I think that was everything.  This was the show that prompted the story about the passport photos that were posted to facebook/instagram since he got them done near Philly when he first started.

There weren't too many people at the venue, so it was somewhat depressing.  Overall, though, it was a great show.  I haven't heard anything coming from the new album, so it was a whole new experience for me and my friends.

Riding off the setlist provided by Kidney05, I'll attempt to piece together what was played (as it was largely the same).

Beautiful Mechanical -yMusic
So There
Long Way To Go (I enjoyed the reuse of the WtN leak)
Not A Fan (ended with a nice "f*ck you")
Effington
I'm Not The Man
-Ben kept laughing and screwing up on this one, where he then asked if anyone in the audience had any poetry on hand that him and yMusic could free style.  Two pieces where given from the audience, and we got two RtB's out of it.  They were both fantastic!
Mess
Music In Circles (yMusic solo)
Yes Man
Erase Me
Jesusland
Capable Of Anything
Phone in the Pool (apparent debut.  It'll be recorded officially soon)
Steven's Last Night in Town
You Don't Know Me
Not the Same

Encore:
Cigarette
(Ben solo)
Bastard
 (Ben solo)
Sentimental Guy (solo)
Annie Waits

EDIT: Evaporated was in there, too (full band)

If anyone else was there, go ahead and correct the setlist, since after getting home at like 12:30AM and going to work, my memory's a bit hazy.

Stayed afterwards and met Sam and most of the yMusic members.  Again, it was a great show!

Tour Board / The Mann Center w/ the Philly Orchestra, June 24th, 2014
« on: June 27, 2014, 06:41:15 PM »
Good show from start to finish.  I'll do my best to remember the setlist...

Orchestra opened with Tchaikovsky's Moscow (I think?)
Effington
Smoke
Jesusland
Annie Waits
Gracie
Picture Window
[First Movement from the Piano Concerto was somewhere in the middle]
Landed
Zak & Sara
Brick
Steven's Last Night in Town
Cologne
Fred Jones, Part 2
Not the Same [Orchestra + Audience]
Encore:
One Angry Dwarf

Setlist isn't in the right order, but I think I remembered everything.

EDIT: forgot Effington and the Concerto movement.

Tour Board / Philadelphia, PA - The Mann Center - 7/18/2013
« on: July 19, 2013, 08:04:34 PM »
I'm trying to remember the setlist...

-Michael Praytor
-Alice Childress
-Landed
-Erase Me
-Sky High
-Brick
-Do It Anyway
-One Angry Dwarf
-Underground
-Song for the Dumped (had a cool improv section where Ben and Robert traded off)
-Army

This is not complete, nor in the right order.  So, if someone else that was there last night remembers, please post!

Tour Board / XPN Festival 7/24/11
« on: July 24, 2011, 10:12:52 AM »
Ben's on at 6:40ish, and I think XPN is streaming it online (xpn.org).

Anyone else going?  I'll be there. I'll try and remember the setlist.  And, if it's online, someone bootleg it PLEASE.

EDIT:
It was just Ben Folds and a piano!

Setlist:
Effington
Sentimental Guy
Annie Waits
Eddie Walker
Bitch Went Nuts
"Free Aleu" RtB
Gone
Picture Window
Landed
Zak and Sara
Not the Same
Army

Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head (it started raining, so he played this)

Good show; first time I heard Bitch Went Nuts with just a piano (I have half the song on video, which I'll upload later).  Also saw Jukebox the Ghost and the act before Folds (can't remember her name, sicne I was so focused on the bass player who stole the show by being so awesome).

If anyone else was there, I was the dude in the Pac-Man hat.

EDIT: I went back through here looking for some stuff, and it appears as though MediaFire decided to delete a bulk of my uploads without informing me.  So, I apologize for the lack of linkage to a variety of bootlegs listed here.  Hopefully, someone has them downloaded and can reupload them.

Anyone have the Freaking Out Fan DVD or the Live at Summer Stage 7/14/04 DVD?  [Preferably in an ISO form, but it doesn't matter]

It'd be much appreciated.

News / Ben Folds and Nick Hornby on NPR 11/12
« on: November 14, 2010, 03:37:37 PM »
http://www.npr.org/2010/11/12/131270338/ben-folds-nick-hornby-on-world-cafe

I haven't bothered to listen to the whole thing yet, but I heard part of Picture Window while driving today from this broadcast.

EDIT: There's a little more tracks on there than what the set list says; some of them are not album versions, either.  I downloaded the stream, but I can't convert to anything for the life of it for editing (and VLC poops itself when I try to skip around).  And there's, how should I say, *KrZZZZZZZZzh* moments in it for cursing, lawl.

EDIT2: I now have the three songs (Levi Johnston, Doc Pomus, and Picture Window) in mp3 format, they sound pretty good, too.  Plus, there's a lot more piano with these recordings.

EDIT: My videos are up, and there's another person (stonefosho) whose uploaded a few from the show, so they're linked to, too.
